Example video... not the only scientist whom turned to Christianity
I’m glad this scientist had her spiritual awakening and found a community to support her, however after having been raised in the church and seeing a much closer look at the overall damage the institution of christianity has done, I can never in good conscience return or accept that belief into my life, even if my local church has done nothing wrong and has a welcoming and friendly community of truly good people. I have a visceral reaction to the idea of returning to christ and I refuse to go back now that I’ve left, call it religious trauma.
oh yes, can relate. I look forward to hearing more about your experience... along the way. Christians... can be the worst. You really need to have internal strength to go to church, but that is not taught. I understand how that can happen, given what I've experienced and observed (20+ years), but I don't see how that ties to Christ, that doesn't make sense to me. e. g. I don't associate individuals failings, interpretations, and abuses, including my own, to what Christ had done for me. People can certainly be hurt, and it justified.
The root problems being found (e. g. the lies) can help clearup the traumas and fears, so one is at a new level and free again. Whatever you choose, don't be a slave to fear.
You’re coming at this from a good place and while I agree that the institution is not a reflection of the intended message of christ, there’s a reason churches are more empty than they’ve ever been in the last century and honestly what you said has made me inclined to feel a bit defensive bc what you’re calling my fear is actually my anger, which comes from a place of pain. I do not fear christ like christians say I should, I am angry that they’ve twisted his message of kindness and forgiveness into a reason to make life worse for everyone who does not join them.
not really, no proof... I also can talk using big words, but it changes nothing when we talk about facts...
some people need to believe in something... I'm not in this category
but not "need believe in something" until then. that wasn't the cause.
Depends on why. I haven't seen any convincing cases, though. They all strike me as either people who were religious from the start and just say they used to be an atheist to lend themselves the perception of credibility and the rare actual atheist that just found pretending to have changed their mind is an easy way to join in on the Sunday morning cash grabs. None have found evidence of magic.
so you think she is fake, lying?
cash grabs? we GIVE on Sunday. not take.
@strateguy632 the flock does. I'm talking about the preachers and speakers. They grab and snarlmat eachnother over the cash you freely give. Or what.. did you think they have a mail service that delivers to God and they send all the money to Him? No. Look at every single item in the possession of your religious leaders. That's what your tithes bought. Your tithes don't go to feed the hungry or shelter the homeless. They go to limos and private jets.
@lightbulb27 Yes. I didn't watch the video or read the blog because if there was evidence of magic this would not be the first I'm hearing of it. And if there is not evidence of magic, it is fake by its nature - even if she believes herself, which I'd have to talk to her personally to get a sense of (never trust a camera).
No it doesn't. There's still no evidence. There are far more deconversions than conversions. Even the older generations are becoming less religious by the day.

i am not surprised. i already knew many educated people and professors believed Christianity.
no. because "what someone believes" does not change the facts of reality. if someone decides to believ ein god and follow christianity, that doesn't change the fact that this faith is a lie.
No. Why would it? Religion is a matter of faith, not knowledge.
most science is leveraging others learnings...
No. ALL science is leveraging other learning. It's inherently iterative. That also has nothing to do with religion.
@Dongie Yes- and many before it, too- think of how many developments had to be made to get to the point where we could even HAVE written language! If a sudden inexplicable flash of insight tells you how to design a gasoline engine while you're a paleolithic hunter-gatherer, what good is it going to do?
I've been a Christian 38 years. A scientist converting won't change my mind
I was just saying to one of my sisters (have4) today that more scientists in this day and age believe in God than those that don't. Naturally due to ongoing discoveries.
No, because their beliefs are not my beliefs.
No lol
