Thankfully, it's usually just someone in the street. But do you ever worry when a dog howls?

no... my Luna dog was a husky, if she wasn't howling that's when I would worry
down here in Mexico though... the owls (lechuzas or tecolotes) are the ones "we are wary of" because they can represent a few types of bad omen, and so... mind you, these are not that common in my specific area, so... that one very early morning, still in the dark that I came off my place and there was this big, ass, dark, owl... dead straight looking at me and perched right there above my house's door... that was kind of eerie, lol
@Staximus now that I think of it... that did happen around the years where the shootings were the biggest and out of control... lol
now, I gotta knock on wood a trillion times
No, I really don't give a damn whether I'm going to die or not because of a dog howling. Dogs, and wolves by the way, howl for completely different reasons than announcing some silly human is going to die. Dogs are still very sensitive animals, and if they feel their master is going to die, they will probably have a reaction or a way to show their distress, which may be howling in some cases.
Once, many years ago, when when I was very ill in bed, one of my cats, called Nero, new my distress, and just came on me, only looking at at me with half closed eyes. He knew I was going through a bad period, and obviously not knowing how to help, just made me understand he understood and stayed with me. Some animals seem genuinely more human than humans...
If I lived superstitiously, I would be dead by now. I live by faith. I'm not saying people of faith don't also die, but at least if it's happening I'm not thinking, "It must HAVE been because of an folklore omen." And it's not when birds sit on the roof, it's when they fly into your window and kill themself.
It's just a neighbor who let the dog out to pee and fell asleep in the recliner waiting for the thump and scratch on the door to come back in. I doubt he'll die just yet either.

There is a nursing home near where I live that has a cat that lives there. If the cat sleeps on somebodys bed , that person usually dies. Seeing that cat jump on my bed would scare the crap out of me.
I've never heard such nonsense. Here the dogs all howl at the fire truck and police sirens at night. They used to howl at the police sirens a lot more until they switched to electronic sirens. The dogs like the old mechanical spinning sirens that are still on the fire trucks much more.
I've never taken it negatively. I will get to howling too. I used to live near a wolf reserve in Washington. The wolves howled every full moon.
If a dog or wolf howls - it doesn't do anything negative to me but give me energy.
That must be a olde Welsh tale... I've never heard that.
The poor dog is worried about who is going to feed him now. No wonder they yowl when they sense the grim reaper is in the neighborhood.
My cat always checks on me each night for the same reason. To see if he is likely to get the morning feed.
These wonderful Welsh legends and fables are absolutely amazing and completely timeless. xxx
Legend? They're bloody true I tell ya.
OMG... That's got to be the very first time I've ever seen you swear @purplepoppy darling. xxx
„Therefore never send to know for whom the dog howls, it howls for thee!“
- after John Donne
Around here we have Black Shuck.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/sx0EcWioHQ8East anglia? We've got gwyllgi, I think everywhere has its version of the Hell hound.
Yep the Fen hound.
From chatting to some that researched this, one of the suggestions is a hang over from escaped Roman war dogs, who used the Molossus breed, which were large and trained for warfare, the modern version is huge but more of a pet that a full on battle dog.
It would be interesting to see if sightings across the UK and Europe correspond to roman fort locations.
We had Colchester and a bunch of others
Wales have a lot
Aah, no I personal believe we all will know when we are going to die but those howling often signal that someone I know will die soon.
I’ve actually never heard that in my life. We have a lot of dogs on my street so howling is pretty common, so I don’t worry.
I’m scared of dogs. Forget howling; I quake in my pants the moment they look in my direction.
Where's the option for no, I'm not superstitious? Because thinking a person will die due to a howling wolf, (other than cases where you are in close proximity to one or more), is a silly superstition.
No, the one that usually dies, when the dog howls, is the guy trying to break into my sun-room.
Death isn't anywhere on the list
No, because I Howel back and I will bite the dog if it comes after me
Dogs howl to communicate, or just to sing. You will only die if an owl calls your name.
The local dogs howl at sirens, fire engines, cops and ambulances. I'm glad I didn't call them.
Dogs are annoying in a menace to society I hate them
I never knew that. Well, my dog doesn't howl in the middle of the night tho, so I don't know.
That only applies to black dogs traditionally.
In reality dogs tend to howl for far stupider reasons.
That's stupid. Howling is a grouping call.
You might as well say that the sirens of a fire engine means that someone will get married tonight.
Aw, the six o'clock howl is just data synchronisation.
I never knew that, but then I have huskies, howling is a part of their habits, I'd worry if they are quiet
Is this licanthropy 101 or canine biology 101. If it’s the latter, I’m not sure howling is a call to kill.
Since someone somewhere dies every night, that isn't a particularly scary superstition.
Well I would worry if someone started howling outside
Never considered it. I’m ready for death anytime though.
Birds sitting on your roof symbolizes protection and shielding. This may even be a message from a departed loved one, who is coming back to visit this plane and provide comfort. Whoever the message may be from, you can be sure that it is encouraging the recipient to lessen their anxiety and place their faith in the universe.
My dad used to say that our dogs howled because evil spirits were near us.
How delightfully superstitious.
No I never thought about it
No. Unless its 2 200 pound pit mastiffs.
Wow.. I never knew all this until now.
Superstitions.
nope
