When faced with religious bigots, how do you handle them?

Usually just remove them from my life. I married into a religious family. My wife is catholic. Literally everyone has been very respectful of my beliefs.

I can only think of one situation where I actually was forced to argue about religion. An old coworker of mine wouldn't drop it when I told him I wasn't comfortable discussing it. He literally called into question myarriage, saying it's false, because I'm not Christian and don't believe as Christians do.. He held these idiotic beliefs that the only way a person can be a good person is if they're Christian. So not only did he insult my marriage, but he essentially told me I was a bad person. So I unloaded my knowledge on him. What most people don't know about me is I have studied all religions, and in particular I have studied Christianity very in depth, and in multiple languages including Latin and ancient Greek. Suffice it to say, I know more than most religious scholars about their own religion.. It pisses me off when they act superior. I don't get satisfaction when I humiliate them, I just feel sorry for them. Once I was done unloading my knowledge, I explained that his choices to attack me where the same if not worse than when the jews and everyone else were persecuting the Christians. And that his behavior was very unchristian indeed.

Yeah it's one of those things that you have to look deep into their eyes with disgust so they get your message without you having to say f*** off I don't want to hear your crap

And at the same time I want to hear it because I want to see how crazy the world's getting I don't have to believe in it just because they're saying it I just like to hear the thought of another human being on what they're going through or where they're headed and then I can just say okay and walk away I don't want to get involved with their drama because then it goes nowhere besides chaos and I'm not into that if that's what they believe that's what they believe I have my belief and that's what I believe I don't need to push it on anybody but I am curious only curious if some big mouth is trying to manipulate me into believing something

I am a Christian, but I know the sort of thing you're talking about. Here are a couple of ways:

1. If it's a street preacher, just ignore him and keep walking.

2. Door to door, just say I already heard all about it, thanks.

3. An acquaintance is trickier, but being direct is usually best. Just say, "I know this is really important to you and I respect that. But I don't want to discuss your beliefs and I'd appreciate it if you'd respect that."

Depends on what definition of "bigot" you're going with.

At any rate, I don't deal with many of them IRL. Online? Also not many dealings. There's one user here who blocked me because I called her out on her anti-Catholic clown show and her Bootes Void-sized victim complex. There's another who has been surprisingly mute on his anti-Catholic nonsense as of late. I used to argue with him a lot.

Truth be told though, I've seen more objectively bigoted and hateful trolling from atheists or otherwise irreligious people here. In general, I ignore them. If, on the rare occasion, they post something that's actually interesting and worth discussing, I might chip in.

I avoid confrontation with them even though I would be easy for me to use logic to debunk opinions coming from their religious delusion. It's like talking with a retarded child, it's like a slow walk on field covered with anti tank mines. They probably won't detonate when stepping on them but the risk exist.

It can be difficult but they are entitled to their opinions as long as they don't do extreme things like bombing, mass killings or gang rapes. Growing up as a white Christian girl in England I had to be careful walking home, I had to get my older brother to walk me home.

Depends on who they are in the specific situation we're in. If their family I'll argue them down on debate them and I admit part of the reason I do this because it's an easy win, but also autistic sense of justice. If they're not family and/or I don't care as much about their opinion it's quite easy to just write them off in my head as just a stupid/ignorant person and move on with my life.

You can tell pretty quickly if someone actually cares about  you  rather than about being "right." I have patience with the former even when I disagree. The latter I ignore even if I do agree with their general beliefs.
