9 moEveryone has their own opinions on that matter and I don't think we'll ever truly know until we die. I'm personally agnostic. I believe there's a power out there at work that humans don't understand. I don't believe in any god the way humans have depicted through the religions in the world.
I find the patterns to be the same with every religion. Most of them have an afterlife or some sort. Heaven, hell, Valhalla, reincarnation, etc. And that's because humans are afraid of death and want to believe they're eternal. If there's a chance they can be eternal in some kind of way, they'll choose that. In primitive religions they made up gods for things they did not understand. Like gods of the sky, volcanoes, the sun, moon, etc.
I just see it all as a pattern. People used to genuinely believe in Thor, Odin, and all those Norse gods, and now they're primarily used for entertainment. Same with ancient Greek gods. And ancient Egyptian gods. Throughout history, many gods have been imagined by humans and worshipped and yet somehow the same pattern continues. People have zero proof of this God they want to believe in so much and yet they choose to believe in it. It blows my mind.20 Reply

I think spiritualists can help nurture the world and care for it and others as themselves
while atheists can help create for the world other solutions to fix problems but they may not have a great chance of being the nicest to others or sharing their time with just anybody.
Spiritualists can tend to care for what’s here and now and believe it will carry on to after, while atheists try to fix things for now cause they don’t believe things will carry for after. Making this life as functional and comfortable or logical as possible. But they need to have a strong character and sense of self and respect for others if they’re going to lack in the moral compass department. Ideally they’d have a sense of camaraderie still intact they just doubt the presence of a higher being or a life beyond this one and beyond the quantum stuff lol.
I think it’s helpful to have both. It’d be great if both could be recognized/ acknowledged and both tend to their priorities while respecting the boundaries of the other.
I feel like people are usually comforted and feel uplifted or encouraged with (in presence of) spiritualists, and can be motivated for self care and to look out for others, but there’s some who are also motivated by certain studies and atheist views to create a “better world” here. Many times often than not atheists can have sour views and some poor attitude so it depends. I think to have a balance is to have both. Those finding their way should have access to both and neither one withheld.

I don’t think either one is better. I think both have some applicable qualities that benefit others. If someone is an atheist, meaning they just doubt god exists or life after is fact, BUT they are still respectful and kind of others- you know, like a humanitarian with a team effort mindset, then I think there’s nothing wrong with that. I think their view should stay with themselves and/or with others who share that same view if they need to talk about it. I don’t think they should push it on to others or use it as some excuse of a reason to be mean to others, or short tempered. Atheist views should not be a doomsday thing giving them clearance to just be horrible towards others, it should just be what they think will happen to them after they die, period. Everyone should still live their life best they can without harming others. Regardless of their views. It just so happens it comes a slight bit easier to be kinder with spiritualist views.
Anonymous(18-24)9 moPersonally I've always found atheists arrogant. They speak with an absolute conviction that God doesn't exist, even though they are unable to substantiate their claim and provide any evidence. In this sense they aren't any different than than other belief systems (theistic monotheistic, polytheistic) and are as dogmatic, as they use unprovable points to justify their argument.
Being agnostic is the wisest most humble and open-minded belief system, as it acknowledges the limitations of human knowledge and the lack of conclusive evidence for either side. ( An agnostic approach essentially says, "I can't know anything so I will not assert that I know and can prove anything in this realm, but my beliefs are open to change the moment anyone can do the same for an opposing viewpoint and present me with sufficient evidence"). That is the belief that Socrates held, who was an agnostic

9 moDefine "spiritualist". Define "better".
In my mind religion and spiritualism are irrational belief in magical explanations for things people don't understand. Those things create fear and uncertainty. In order to gain a feeling of certainty about the world and make the fear go away they choose to believe in things for which they have no proof whatsoever. They know it's all a lie but they push that knowledge into some dark corner of their brain and "just believe" to keep the Boogeyman at bay. It makes them feel safe and happy that they have the universe figured out and understand the rules.
Is that "better". Would I be happier living in ignorance? Maybe. Is that better? No, I don't think lying to yourself is ever good. Even when the truth is uncomfortable and you're forced to admit that you don't have all the answers in a neat little package that never changes and you may never have the answers. I'd rather keep an open mind and base my understanding of the world on evidence rather than blind belief in randomly selected bullshit. I'm OK with saying I don't have all the answers. It doesn't scare me that much. What scares me is wasting my life on total garbage that never gets me any closer to the real truth. So for now I'll stick with Atheism.
But if White Baby Jesus comes flying out of the sky (doubtful) I'll shake his hand and tell him he's cool.

If your a hard evidence kind of person and you don't want to open your mind to soft evidence and are an athiest as a result there's probably a reason for that. So the most authentic way to be is being an athiest. If someone is agnostic they tend to sooner or later get an event that convinces them.

9 moI think it takes more faith to be an atheist than a "spiritualist" or religious person. With religion or spirituality, you have a deity that is in control. With atheism, you believe that everything came from nothing... I guess that's more of an evolution standpoint but a majority of evolutionists and Darwinists are atheists as well.
20 ReplyFull atheism is illogical.
The notion that our carefully crafted universe came to be with absolute no rhyme or reason just sounds naive to me
Just like the people who were told a story from a book when they were kids and now refuse to accept that it was just that: a story.
I prefer not categorize my beliefs in a higher power and instead keep an open mind to the possibility of learning more about it20 Reply
9 moI'll go with the atheist as what I've seen especially ever since the first time that blowbag moron lying trump got into office was so much of the southern bible busting nose up your ass hypocrites jumping into politics' attempting to get all their beliefs into our government. That was supposed to be separate from government so I hope and pray they all burn in hell.

@katiesmuff you're gonna block me for this but the Founders were all Religious and believed in God Almighty
3.7K opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. There is no good reason to be an atheist. It's like being a thief, until something "better" comes along.
But being a "spiritualist" is dubious at best, as you're claiming to know "better" than established faiths.

Anonymous(18-24)9 moI’m a very spiritual person, but the answer is neither. It’s according to your own personal beliefs.
I believe that if you’re a good person, you’ll go to Heaven even if you don’t believe Jesus exists. You’ll find out He exists when you get there. That’s my personal belief, at least.

9 moMaybe cause I'm biased but as a kid I tried Christianity never appealed to me so I stopped worshiping anything and just not focused on religion or spirituality for a little bit. But now I've found spirituality is more free I still believe there's truths to all the religions but instead I realized we are made in the image of God (any higher being) which means we are God. We are creators. And spirituality isn't about putting others down but lifting each other up
10 ReplyIts well possible to be both , I'm certainly spiritual , but appreciate that the entire religion thing is absolute nonsense , its a business , that's the problem.

Thats riding the fence you either believe or you dont go find out. I sought out the LORD and I found Him.
I have talked with an atheist once. She was a pure atheist. I asked her that 'do you think if you were a religious person would you be happier in the life' and she said 'yes I would be happier if I was religious'
