Christians, how do you handle when someone has issue with loved one that's passed?

and it is not clear if they were saved. eg. they were an addict, absent from their life, there was no evidence of them being Christian.

The issue confronted is the person wants to be with their loved one... even if they were an addict, they were still a mother/father they care for. The underlying issue Jesus dealt with is separation from love.

How do you handle that stumbling block?

Actually, the issue is separation from God. God is Love. The only reason we are able to love here is because He extends Grace to us.

Judgement will come later, and the issue then will be acceptance of Christ's Sacrifice.

There will be people who go to Hell even though they behaved in a "moral" way. There will be people who get into Heaven even though they look terrible by man's judgement.

God will judge based on acceptance of Christ. Nothing else. No 72 virgins. No moralising. Just Christ. Nothing else matters.

From my Christian understanding I think that what happens (or happened) to such loved ones is in the hands of God, but not in mine.

I see nothing to ''handle'' on my own side. Love is love in this present life.

And any life thereafter is beyond my imagination anyway - it's likely not like what the belief-organizers among us ('down' here') attempt to brainwash us into.

Well if a kid asked we can lie "your friend was a good person " like in film terebethia but if an adult "has issue with loved one that's passed and didn't believe" that isn't any obstacle. Ask if they are worried they went to hell? Or a different issue?

but usually it is "clear if they were save".

I try to remind them that God is a loving God. That his love is perfect and unending. That God is a just God and will never abandon them or leave them far from him.
