I don't get hyped up about Halloween. Maybe I should though, especially since I pray and mortify myself often for the dead and the holy souls in Purgatory. I've listened to some apologetics on the true Christian origins of Halloween. Pretty interesting information.
I really don't have any attraction to it either. If I did in the future, it would not resemble the horror/candy combination that seems so prevalent these days. I have looked into those origins too, and it is a shame it has fallen so far from it's original meaning.
I wouldn't class it as my favourite holiday and it doesn't really have deep spiritual meaning to me although I do feel it's a special night. We used to leave snacks out for the ghosts at bedtime as kids and some dog biscuits for the hounds of Annwn in the yard.
And that's what I like about it, it's a nice family friendly holiday everyone can enjoy.
People sometimes underestimate that family aspect, but even though it is simple that feeling of connection is so powerful and lasting.
I would say im religious, but im not christian im Pagan. I celebrate a blend of Halloween and Samhain, which is where ancestors/passed loved ones are honored and remembered. Its a time for preparation for winter too. So within that i also get all into the spooky vibes and candy and horror movies the same way as when i was a kid lol
That does seem to be common, at least in Western countries. Namely that pagans of the New Age/Druidic leaning tend to celebrate their version of Halloween. Even though it has a Christian origin, the way most people celebrate it now is far removed from that, and so I can see the appeal.
I consider myself to be a religious person. I do not dislike Halloween at all but my favorite holiday is Christmas. I do not think of Halloween as a threat to Christian values because the meaning of the holiday has evolved so much.
no. i don't know. i like the adrenaline that comes from being scared. i'm not an adrenaline junkie, but a good fright is all that can surprise me and make me feel something.
As a kid it was my fave holiday and my religion or spiritual beliefs have no bearing on the holiday and I’m a preachers kid
Does that still hold true for you?
Yes. I think God gets a kick out of seeing kids in costumes getting candy. God knows it means nothing to most and knows where our heart is
I agree
I’ve never celebrated Halloween, but I’d like to—it looks fun, and I’d probably go as Coraline.
A lot of people love dressing up
I don't celebrate Halloween ✝️
For religious reasons?
@Grond21
Yes, for religious reasons 🙏🏼
I'm curious what those are, if you would be open to sharing?
@Gronde21
I've noticed that you have stopped giving me your opinions on my questions for a long time now, except for this one.
I am a God fearing Christian woman who has the Holy Spirit living inside of me. I'm 72 years old and I know evil when I see and feel.
I don't celebrate anything that's evil.✝️🙏🏼
I have not been active on here for a few months. It's been quite a busy time.
It is sad that a holiday which was started by the Christians has now drifted so far from it's origin. I am glad you don't celebrate evil
I don’t celebrate Halloween to celebrate the devil. It’s just an evening of kids in costumes getting candy. Nothing else. God knows where my heart is
Nope
