Casual dating was advertised as something that would empower women. We were told that we didn’t need to settle down with a man. Instead, we should date for fun, embrace our sexuality, and have as much meaningless sex as we wanted. We can take birth control, so what is there to worry about? Few people ever considered the emotional toll that casual dating would have on women, but the consequences have been dire for not only the women who engage in hookup culture, but even for those who don’t.

Casual dating was supposed to make women and men equal, but it ended up exacerbating inequalities.
The ironic thing about hookup culture is that while it was supposed to make women equal with men, it ended up exacerbating the very inequalities it was supposed to fix. Men get everything they want and more out of the deal. Now they can have sex with as many women as they want, they don’t have to worry about getting a woman pregnant, they get to embrace their inner Peter Pan Syndrome, and they can put off responsibilities for as long as they want – perhaps indefinitely. Meanwhile, women are left feeling empty inside.

Maybe you, like many women nowadays, are struggling with exactly the same issues she is. If anything, casual dating has empowered men a lot more than it ever empowered women. The idea that you can “have fun in your 20s and settle down in your 30s” might sound like a good idea, but it turns out that, as Camille points out, the men you date in your 30s are no better!”

I created a poll to see what most people think.

Here is my opinion. Getting rid of that the downvote/dislike feature has really watered down the experience when reading comments about other peoples opinions.

You just don’t know which comments are more unpopular when it comes to controversial questions and takes. Seeing unpopular comments gives you a better idea of what is popular.

I have posted unpopular opinions in past that were disliked by multiple people. Whoop te do. It happens. I didn’t lose sleep over it and anybody who feels “heartbroken” over being downvoted really doesn’t belong on GAG. It isn’t “bullying” to dislike a comment. So what if people didn’t like my opinion but at least I knew it wasn’t popular.

Also people get in heated debates all the time on here. What do you expect when you bring up often controversial issues about relationships, dating, sex, politics, etc?

I still don’t know why GAG decided to do this. It’s such weak tea and really takes away from the user experience.

Texas Congressman Who Broke With GOP Is Censured

Republican U. S. Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas was censured Saturday in a rare move by his state party over votes that included supporting new gun safety laws after the Uvalde school shooting in his district.

The Republican Party of Texas voted 57-5 with one abstention, underlining how the two-term congressman’s willingness to break with conservatives on key issues during his short time in office has caused GOP activists and some colleagues to bristle.

That independent streak includes opposing a sweeping House GOP immigration proposal over the U. S.-Mexico border, which includes a large portion of his South Texas district. He has also voted to defend same-sex marriage and was an outright “no” against a House rules package after Republican leader Kevin McCarthy became speaker.
Gonzales was defiant before the vote and did not attend the meeting of Texas GOP leaders and activists in Austin.
“We’ll see how that goes,” he told reporters in San Antonio on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the congressman did not immediately return a message for comment after Saturday’s vote.
The vote followed an hourlong, closed-door executive session in which party members were allowed to debate the resolution.
