I've known of a couple of Mexican couples who had fights because the man didn't like that his wife was earning more in her job or that she was significantly more educated than he was. Mexican culture places a lot of emphasis on masculinity. So the men were really bothered by it and felt a need to prove themselves to her, to which the wives were confused about and couldn't understand why they would feel less than men for it.

I personally don't care, and I think it'd be pretty cool if she was the one making the most money, like if she were a doctor or something. It's totally fine by me if the tables were turned on this traditional social orthodoxy where the man is expected to be more educated or earn more.

I think for her to choose me despite earning less or having fewer degrees and academic accolades than her makes me feel more special. Like she chose me because she likes me for who I am, and not because of what I earn or have.
