The difference between religion and science- when religious people don't know why and how something happened they simply say "it was an act of god" and when scientists don't know why and how something happened they seek answers by using scientific methods and if they come up with nothing they admit they don't have the answer... yet. The conclusion is that religion pretends to answer questions while science actually gives truthful answers.
In my case they are more than compatible. Islam teaches us to reflect upon the universe and all the creations and Muslims are commanded to gain knowledge. But the knowledge has to be beneficial to mankind! Allah says: “Those who... reflect on the creation of the heavens and the Earth (saying): Our Lord! Thou hast not created this in vain! Glory be to Thee; save us then from the chastisement of the fire:” [ Chapter Al `Imrân : 191] The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” [ Sunan Ibn Mâjah ]
Ok the things is, religion thinks we are the only intelligent life. That means that the whole universe, which is bigger then we have discovered, you can't tell me life doesn't exsist. Until we explore every fucking place I'm not believing shit. That would be just one of many physical evidence that can prove religion right. But then there are other religions, so which one is right? The fact we don't go around killing each other is based on religion and we don't 100% know which is if any are right. The law is based on religon. Science is Limitless and something that Limitless is far greater then Religion.
My favourite qoute: " A religous man reads one book and they think they know everything, A scientist will read many and still believe he doesn't know anything, be like the Scientist!"
I read a book called the bible, and I know that I know nothing my friend. I have studied all of the major religions and came to the conclusion that they all preach the same. They all speak of finding inner peace and being nice and peaceful to others. In my opinion Christianity is the closest to the correct way. Now that doesn't mean that I feel others who believe in the other religions should suffer no they should not. If anything that I gained from Christianity is that Jesus wants us to be kind and peaceful to one another and to find our inner peace. As well for the other religions I feel they all followed the same God and were going in the right direction but some just lost their way. Anyways these are my beliefs they hold no real truth just observations. As well please don't label all religious people closed minded for there are even closed minded scientists. Well in fact scientists are even more closed minded then spiritual people.
@djvtech The point is to show that both religion and science are based off the same thought process of 1+2=3. Bonus point is just because you follow one doesn't mean you have to hate the other. As I said below: It wasn't my intention to make a judgement on the reliability of religion. Rather appreciate where they both came from and how they both fit in with human nature and each individuals personal biases. I'm a believer in science although I do think it's okay to have faith.
Science religion go hand in hand. you think Jesus didn't realize that if he throw a rock it will come back down to earth? Today we just ha e names and formulas for things. only thing science can say it has done is done to outer space. Everything else ancient people have already known. heck even Hitler knew science and religion are one
@djvtech Actually there is a bacteria in camel poop that cures dystentary, The bedouins ate camel poop and didn't die of dysentary and in ww2 the nazis were dying of dysentary in africa and they noticed that the bedouins weren't and they sent people to find out why these tribesman weren't dying od dysentary and well. I don't need to say the rest
God and science are not mutually exclusive. Both can coexist. Math and science is simply a language created by humans to understand the forces of the universe.
There is a relentless campaign in American media to spread confusion about what American Christendom actually professes, and how and why. Perhaps no ministry has been the target of more abuse and more mis-representation than Answers in Genesis. The more sense they make, the more they're attacked.
It's not because their opponents have better ideas. If you read the vitriol by AiG's attackers, it's really because of an emotional impulse to reject the implications, almost like a mental equivalent of an allergic reaction.
Thanks for this. A surprising number of people think religion and science are mutually exclusive.
I think nonreligious people view religion as a philosophy instead of an explanation of how things are. It seems to me many start with the assumption that all religions are not true and exploring their truth claims is out of the question. But I think it's perfectly valid to examine the hypotheses raised by religion. I mean, if a religion claims to be true, why not test it? If it's true, it's true.
Except science sticks to facts and religion at the very most was developed by people in the bronze age who did not know what an atom or single celled organism was. "a higher power" it still doesn't incur a man floating on a cloud, it simply means that they are all saying that there is something perhaps greater than us. By the way this study was from 2009... it is now 2015, i wonder how much it has changed.
People look at things far too rigidly. Anything is possible... believe and use what you wish without causing others harm, and you're good to go. Nice take!
Science and religion are irreconcilable. They can never mix. Religion is by very definition already unfalsifiable, which invalidates it completely in scientific context.
Science gets measurable results, religion does not.
I know they are vastly different ways of thinking but the purpose of this wasn't to say they are the same. Merely that they came from the same way of thinking.
@moistycakes But they don't. Science is based off of rationality, logic, hard evidence, tests, elimination of personal bias and rejection of purely anecdotal evidence. Religion is literally the exact opposite of that.
The reason the two are seen as rivals is radical factions, such as the religious nut jobs who deny evolution and climate change, or militant atheists who deny the possibility of any higher power other than themselves.
The truth is except for a few wackos trying to hijack religion or science for their own agenda the two are both very helpful to society.
Thank you someone said it. What we define as religion now days is based off of the observations of extremists not the actual people who make it what it is.
At one point 99% of the world thought the world was flat so I didn't bother reading the percentages. Religion is a farce and science is solid. Do we know all there is to know about science? Not at all. We have a long way to go. Hopefully the world rids itself of this poison called religion before we kill each other off.
If you think science is ridiculous at all (let alone comparatively equal to religion), I suggest you get off the internet, stop using technology, stop going to the doctors, stop using or doing pretty much everything... since science is the advancement which allows for all of it. This is not a debate, this is actually undeniable fact.
Religion have NEVER moved the world forward, it has set the world back many times.
Then there is zero reason for you to think religion is anything but ridiculous. And William Craig is a moron, look up any debate he's done against Matt Dilahunty or Sam Harris and you will easily see how idiotic that tool bag is.
@Hezigrimm Ummm NO. "Morals" are inherent. Religious people such as yourself simply project it's creation into a religious creation but without religion we would be just as moral as we are now, if not more. Sweden is one of the most non-religious societies and is one of the most morally strong. The US is one of the most religious countries and is one of the most morally corrupt. Almost ALL major atrocities of our time has been in the name of religion. Religion itself is filled with moral corruption. If religion does anything at all it isn't that it makes us more kind. It gives people a scapegoat to get away with evil acts.
Depends on the field of science. A person involved in statistics has no overlap with religion, but someone involved in geography probably does, as the bible said the world was created 4000 years ago and they probably believe it was much, much, much, much earlier.
Actually that is untrue my friend. I believe in God and my view on science is that it is the physical proof he exsists. He created everything every single atom, chemical reaction etc. Of course this is my belief you may believe what you wish. I just think science or everything that happens is molded and sculpted by God. As well he has LST us search and find things on our own in hopes for us to do good and find him. All in all I do not turn down science, but I still do believe God is behind it all.
You do realise that is the catholic church. Because of their actions is why there are a bunch of denominations of Christianity. I belong to the baptist denomination so I absolutely do not agree with the catholic church on these statements and actions.
The difference between science amd religion is that science generally has plenty of evidence to back it up whereas religion is just stuff some dudes said and and wrote down and were all "trust me on this one guys".

Most of these comments are sickening. Thank you for your take, at least you're not like some of these people.
They just all miss the point of this entirely. 😂
They really did lol. I don't think words can describe how badly they've missed it. xD
Thank you! Gosh I thought I was the only one who thought that 😍
Why don't you explain the point for the less point catching people?
@djvtech The point is to show that both religion and science are based off the same thought process of 1+2=3. Bonus point is just because you follow one doesn't mean you have to hate the other. So Egyptians had refrigerators and drove cars? Odd how science has only benefited Nasa and astronauts lol
Yeah, blood letting and eating animal feces to cure illness was sure scientific wasn't it?

I am saddened by the comments here. You have a good mytake. You explained a view that many Christians hold, but sadly I feel many missed your point.
Okay, sadly I feel the same, I'm glad someone realised my point!

@ObscuredBeyond oh I disagree with Answers in Genesis.

You can try and use science to prove some religious scripture but when you find contradicting evidence you must make adjustments.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nrmILTRZ5oSorry, but no.

Nobody ever thought the world was flat. It is a myth that people thought like that.
The world is flat though and we've never been to space either science is a lie.
@Dipsy Correct, I wish more people understood this.
@asiag299 The world isn't flat lol, you can walk/drive/sail around to see for yourself
@Dipsy I feel you dude lol
@asiag299 what do you mean?
@Dipsy I said that to the wrong person lol but sure you think the world is round but I still think it's flat :)
@asiag299 I think it's a triangle :P
@Dipsy See I think we're already on the same page lol

Religion have NEVER moved the world forward, it has set the world back many times.
I don't think science is ridiculous, I'm pursuing a degree in forensic criminology and psychology so that's a lot of science.
Then there is zero reason for you to think religion is anything but ridiculous.
And William Craig is a moron, look up any debate he's done against Matt Dilahunty or Sam Harris and you will easily see how idiotic that tool bag is.
How is religion ridiculous. Most, if not all, of our moral beliefs even today stem from religion. I feel religion is there to help us be more kind.

Science doesn't "explain the unknown", it's sole purpose it to turn the unknown into known.
Religion doesn't give you facts, it tries to explain the unknown with more unknowns, ironically.
They have absolutely nothing in common. I wish you would read your take at my father's university.
Religion has been fighting science during centuries. Religious people prefer to ignore that and more things about religion.
Actually that is untrue my friend. I believe in God and my view on science is that it is the physical proof he exsists.
