De-stressing The CHARismatic Way

Life can be extremely stressful at times. We've all gone through a period (or several) where we just want to wave a white flag in defeat. There aren't a lot of things worse than feeling defeated either. It can feel like you're spiraling out of control. The good news is that there are many different things that can be done to help to alleviate stress. Join me and I'll share a few of my favorites.

Music Therapy

Music is a big part of my everyday life. There's literally a song for every mood. When I need a break from 5 million thoughts that run through my mind constantly, I turn to my playlist (the picture above shows a few of the songs in it). I turn it to max volume and zone. Other times I feel like dancing around to 90's music because it makes me happy.

Meditation

I just started getting into meditation. I find a quiet spot where I'm less likely to be interrupted and just breathe. I close my eyes and go somewhere else. I can't even describe it, but I like it there. I've heard that yoga is really helpful with destressing as well.

Working Out

I've noticed that the more stressed I am, the harder I workout. It's like I channel all the stress, emotions, and frustrations into the workout and it makes me push myself. I remember having a particularly stressful day where everything that could go wrong, did. And then some. I ran my first full mile and got my shortest mile time that day.

Adult Coloring

This was one of my favorite purchases of last year. Coloring has always been therapeutic and this coloring book is nothing short of that. It's full of intricate mandalas that I've spent hours at a time coloring. I'm so focused on color combinations and staying inside those small spaces that all the stress seems so far away. Just a girl, her markers, and her coloring book.2

Writing/Journaling

I've said it here many times before and I'm going to say it again, writing is who I am. It's what I love to do. It's an outlet. I've been writing and keeping journals since I was maybe 10 years old. I try to stay in the habit of writing daily, even if it's just a few sentences in my journal. It's a good way to clear your mind.

I'll be completely honest and say that sometimes none of these things work for me. Especially as of late. But they've worked more times than they haven't in helping to relieve some stress. Maybe they'll work for you too.

Stay classy GaGers. ✌
