Stop Saying Slut

The word "Slut" is used all too frequently please stop saying it, it doesn't do anybody any good and hurts feelings. What's the point? Who cares?

Slut: "a sexually promiscuous woman, or a woman who behaves or dresses in an overtly sexual way." "a woman who has many casual sexual partners.".

Women can dress and act and have as many sexual partners as they please, but as long as theirs no cheating because that's never cool, but theirs no need for the Slut lable it's a very shitty thing to say in my opinion and once again hurts feelings.

It's like when people say Slut it's a crime, ahhehem. All Rise! Judge Blakeh presiding. "I hearby sentence you a Slut and 10 years in prison" *Hammer*

It's a condescending word, and I always think of children going back and forth "No you're a Slut" "No you're the Slut", it is childish in my opinion. So let's just cut out all the labels shall we? Thanks for reading.

Men and women should be judged by the same standard for sexual behavior but that does not mean that we should not have opinions about their behavior. Thinking that a woman is a slut is not the same thing as hating her. I can see a promiscuous woman and think to myself that she is failing herself and she is failing commonly (but not universally) accepted standards of morality without hating her.

Of course, everyone has the autonomy to engage in whatever sexual behaviors they want (with a few limits, like sex with minors) and no one needs my permission to do whatever they want to do, but having the right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do.

I don't chase after sluts and tell them what I think of their behavior but I certainly have the right to hold my opinions, and to share those opinions with others if the subject arises in conversation. That is part of my autonomy. If you want to tell me that I shouldn't chase after sluts and call them names, your words are not necessary because I don't do that. If you want to tell me that I have no right to have such an opinion, then you have appointed yourself as a deputized agent of the politically correct thought police and you are part of why Donald Trump is appealing to so many voters.

Slut is the word that gets used on women, but there are plenty of different words that are used on men. Player, fuck boy, man whore, womanizer, etc If the guy is dating a woman with any age gap, or even if he just dates a woman with small boobs, he may even be called a Pedophile, despite only being interested in adult women.

This deals more to do with our societies views on sexuality, and our desire to control the sexuality of others, more than any sexist double standard toward women. You can't eliminate slut shaming as long as slut shaming is allowed on men as well. This has to be approached from both sides, in order to really change peoples views about sexuality within our culture.

Personally I don't have an issue with the word slut. It is a good descriptive word, just like prude is a good descriptive word. There doesn't need to be a stigma attached to the word. Just because it is offensive, doesn't mean the word needs to die. It just shouldn't be used in an attempt to shame someone. Sometimes it isn't the word that is said, so much as how it is used that makes it offensive.

Seeing as how pretty much everything is going to be offensive to someone, I don't see any reason to even try and cater to the PC police and start banning words from my vocabulary. There will always be a new offensive word to take its place.

No. Also all this shaming of people who slut shames hurts my feelings. Feelings don't matter. Stop and consider WHY society slut shames. Why do people shame cheating if its just sex? Why do we shame people who are greedy, who are alcoholics or drug users? Why do we shame people in general? To presume thier is no reason for it despite its commonness and it being spread through out many different cultures and civilizations seems to be in poor judgment. We shame because a particular behavior is damaging. How many women are just finding out that their promiscuis past is causing men to not want to settle down with them? If society shamed them for the behavior they would have reigned it in and been spared this but society did not so they now are loosing out on some good relationships because of their life choices. Promiscuity has been scientificly shown to cause sever problems to the individual (depression, anxiety low selfesteem (notice in our society how obsessed women are with their looks ie rate me do I look fat "unfair" body image etc) and to relationships (higher divorce rates (it goes from 1% with one partner to 16% with two) higher probability of cheating, lower levels of satisfaction within marriages and relationships). So their is plenty of reasons to look at it as an unhealthy habit and thus shaming it to discourage it. Having feelings hurt is kind of the point, if your parents punished as a child by giving you candy how effective would that have been exactly? Not very hence shaming being hurtful in order to encourage the behavior to avoid the negative stimuli. What harms the individual harms the society ergo in a healthy society shaming is necessary for proper societal cohesion.

I never really call anybody a slut, that's something I did more often as a teen but now it just seems overused in these times.

However, I do have to say the way people are so defensive and anti-"slut shaming" nowadays is somewhat alarming. I feel like people aren't really being sincere about it. Women don't want to be called a slut because they don't want to be put to shame for sleeping around like they want, not because they really think the term is bad, and I bet some of them even call other women sluts. And for guys who are so anti-slut shaming they're not sincere about it either. For them they're really saying, "Yeah, stop calling girls sluts! They wanna get laid and we're glad they do so we can get laid too!"

I think the heart of the issue here is that in general, women are shamed for being promiscuous while men are generally applauded. It's a double standard, and one that ends up pretty bad for women, who have just as much a right to enjoy sex, and lots of it, as other men. If it were just a descriptor for 'person who has a lot of sex', that'd be different. It's a derogatory term and it's used to dismiss and mock people. I wouldn't want someone to call me that and I wouldn't have, before I came out as trans, as well. If I were promiscuous I wouldn't care if people made a note of that, because eah, it's not a bad thing in and of itself. But the word slut, much like the word whore, is generally used to derogatorily towards women.

They absolutely can. It's their right to do so. That doesn't absolve a person of the consequences their actions bring.

It's also a person's right to choose a partner that shares their sexual values. Rejecting someone because they'll bang someone at the drop of a hat is no different than rejecting someone who wants to remain a virgin until they're married. You need to be on the same page.

A slut is what a slut is: an impulse-driven person who isn't selective and has low requirements for engaging in sex. Not everyone wants that in a partner.
