Breakfast Club Day. Would detention be like this in todays world?

Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal. Correct? That's the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed.

Yes my friends. Today is Breakfast Club Day. Today is the day where Andrew Clark, Allison Reynolds, Claire Standish, and John Bender spend detention for things they did.

Today's society, we have one thing which my generation did not have at that age. Smart Phones. Yes, that bulky device attached to us which we use to make calls with, to instagram and facebook with, even to post on here. This is one device we didn't have.

Todays kids dont know or understand the concept of communication. Face to face communication. Instead of not knowing anything about each other, the sterotype will be there.

Neither of them would talk to one another, know what brought them there, or the common bond they shared that day. They wouldn't know that Brian was bullied for being a nerd, and what actually was percieved to passed on as a real threat now (if you look at it in 20/20 hindsight)

Andrew Clark. The Jock. The drama with the whole nerds and jocks stll go on today, but in todays society, in addtion to the beatings and verbal harassment, we now have cyberbulying.

Allison Reynolds. The basketcase, the loner, per say. No one will know in todays society why she keeps to herself or does things which seem weird to others because no one wants to approach her.

Claire Standish. The rich girl who has daddys money. Who walks on air, every guys dream. But she's not interested unless you are made of money as well (again todays standards)

John Bender. The bully, the one who wants to and crys for attention because he is the James Dean type just to get the attention he craves.

So what happens during this movie. They are in a library and "communicate" with each other, share there experiences. During the course of this forgotten tool, they became closer. And by the end of the movie, friendships were made.

In the end..

Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain.....and an athlete.....and a basket case....a princess...

..and a criminal...

Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.
