11 Reasons Why You Should Move To Australia Tomorrow

If you're not a fan of Trump, and he ends up winning the election, you may look for another country to live in (fair enough). And Australia is one of those countries you should consider. (If not Australia then Canada, because Canada is awesome too!) Even if Trump doesn't win, come live here anyway! I truly believe Australia is a great, if not the best, place to live.

1. We're extremely multicultural

Part of our history included mass immigration from all parts of the world, with 1 in 4 Australians born overseas and that ratio is increasing. There are over 200 dialects spoken. You'll never stand out as a foreigner. If you're positive and have a good attitude you'll fit right in!

2. Christmas is in Summer!

Forget white Christmases, we spend the holiday with our family and friends at the beach or in the pool, and it's a lot of fun!

3. We have freaking awesome beaches

Not to brag or anything, but our beaches are pretty kickass, and we have over 10,000 of them too! There's room for everyone.

4. The minimum wage in Australia is $17.29

In America, minimum wage ranges by state from $5.15 (Georgia) to $9.19 (Washington). And I don't know about you, but as someone who's travelled to the US several times, the tipping system is so irritating, and we don't have tipping here either!

5. We have the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean road is like our version of America's Route 66, except you're cruising on the coast seeing some of the best beaches we have to offer.

6. Australia Day

Kind of like 4th of July, but not really. I'll keep this one simple, we know how to party.

7. We know coffee

Starbucks tried to invade the scene a few years ago, but Aussies didn’t break from top notch espressos from our favourite cafes. Starbucks was forced to close 60 of its 84 Australian stores.

8. We’re a pretty safe country

Because we’re a long way from other countries (with the exception of New Zealand) Australia is much less likely to come under attack from another country.

9. Chris and Liam Hemsworth are from Australia

Aka Gale and Thor <3.

10. Kangaroos

There are actually more kangaroos in Australia than people. But no, we do not ride them to school contrary to popular belief.

11. Australia has some of the world’s most liveable cities

Melbourne is number 1, and Adelaide is 5th, Sydney 7th and Perth 8th. We make up 4 of the top 10 most liveable cities in the world!

Overall I think Australia is just a really cool place to live, and I love my country, and am very blessed to live here.

That's why Australia is one of my favorite countries in the world ;)
Great reasons, especially 3, 4, 5 and 7. Of course, 6, 8, 10 and 11 are very nice too, Australia Day seem to be very fun, and of course - safety is quite important :)
I like Kangaroos, Koalas, Wombats and other exotic Australian animals (except for insects and spiders) :P
Number 2 is not that important (I'm an atheist), and I would replace guys in number 9 with girls: Tabrett Bethell, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Kerr, Freya Tingley, Gemma Ward, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Phoebe Tonkin.

PS - you should add some other very good reasons, for example: Australian Alps, Billabong lakes, Murray-Darling river basin, Uluru rock, Ellenborough Falls and many other natural beauties of Australia :D

This is what I think:

1. Australia may be a multicultural country, however, it has a big problem with racism. I know all countries have some racist people. The thing is the problem seems much worse in Australia than other countries. Australia is a beautiful country but sadly I am starting to not feel welcome there. :(

4. The minimum wage means nothing on its own. You have to take into account the cost of living as well.

9. I don't really care about famous male celebrities. They can do what they want and I will do what I want.

10. Kangaroos are cool. I have seen Kangaroos. Also it looks like Australia is like New Zealand. There is more Sheep here than people and more Kangaroos in Australia than people.

11. I have seen Melbourne in the world's most liveable cities list and I agree Melbourne is a great place. I think I have seen Sydney in the list before as well but I don't think I have never seen Adelaide or Perth in the list.

Don't get me wrong I don't hate Australia, I like Australia as a place but sadly I feel less and less welcome in Australia every day.

Australia a really nice country, but unfortunately the people are EXTREMELY racist. They speak very sweetly, and the racism is subtle. But they blatantly discriminate against people of colour when it comes to jobs. Especially skilled jobs.

I went to Australia last year, and tried 6 months for a job. In spite of being a skilled engineer with loads of work experience, I was ignored. Aussie employers demand 'local experience', which is just a way of them telling us "you are are foreigner, we won't hire you". I was even ready for labour jobs, but then again without references it's almost impossible.

Someone once told me that my best chance of getting hired in Australia is by bleaching my skin and adopting an English sounding name. I wasn't ready to do something that drastic, so I had to return to my home country.

So yeah, if you are white (or even black, to a certain extent), then Australia is a great country. If you are Asian, Hispanic, Indian etc., it is still a great country but the racist Aussie employers refuse to hire you.

It's alright, what can you do about it? My Visa for Australia is still valid for 4 more years, so maybe I'll try once again. The country is really awesome and tempting, but the employers seem to go out of their way to ensure that those like me are NOT hired.

Unfortunately, Australia collectively can be really racist :( A lot of Australians have a chip on their shoulder about foreigners taking 'their' jobs... and there are so many things wrong with that, especially because the ones that complain are the ones cheating the system and living off of Centrelink payments (basically Australian social services).
I'm from Adelaide, (capital of SA) maybe you should try here, although there wouldn't be as many jobs, especially in engineering.

Glad to know that you understand. I do know about how these people get Centrelink payments, but still sit on the streets and beg to get money for alcohol and drugs.

I am from India, and it was quite difficult to get the visa because I had to satisfy a lot of requirements like English language test, my skills assessment, the Visa interview and stuff. The Australian government should clamp down on visas to non-whites, since Aussie employers are too reluctant to hire them anyway. So all my efforts towards securing thr visa, including the fee I paid for it, is now wasted because the Aussies won't hire me anyway.

I wasn't sure about how difficult it is to get an Australian Visa, so wow. Visa fees aren't super cheap either. I am so sorry to hear it! Some of us need to get our shit together, especially with the casual racism that's a lot harder to detect.

In general, it is usually a bit tough to get Visas for English-speaking developed countries, including Australia. Rather than racism, I suppose it's just the 'preference' of Aussies to hire their own kind. There were occasions where those with high school diplomas and just a couple of years of experience, get hired over me (I hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and 5 years of experience).

I think this is mainly due to immigration being relatively new to Australia, and it will take a few more years before the Aussies are able to to be non-judgemental about non-white immigrants. I do want to come back, though. Because in general Australia is a lovely country with high wages, low crime rate and excellent medical facilities.

As much as I *enjoyed* Australia very much when visiting, and I almost moved there for love, three points are just wrong:

"1. We're extremely multicultural"--actually, no. You are "whiter" than the USA, and as a result you do not have as many of the race problems that the USA has. And the immigrants that you *do* have are much better screened, hence better behaved.

"4. The minimum wage in Australia is $17.29"--mandating a higher wage, in the absence of bringing other costs of business down, just means higher prices, and the "GST" or "VAT" (forms of "value-added" taxation) do not help!

"8. We’re a pretty safe country"--until Indonesia falls apart, that is.

Again, this is not a put down, like I said, it was a wonderful place and I long to visit there again!

I love Australia, even though I've never been. One of my best friends is Aussie-American, and I keep hoping she'll show me around sometime. I love Australian films and actors, the geography seems beautiful and compelling, I like a lot of Aussie bands.
My only concerns are that the cost of living is high and that something like 7 of the top 10 deadliest spiders, snakes, etc. are native to Australia. Still, I'd love to live there for a while.

To be fair, I've lived here all my life (am 16) and I've never had a problem with poisonous spiders, poisonous snakes, poisonous jellyfish, crocodiles or sharks... so everything that you mentioned! It really depends on where you live as well. I see snakes and crocs at the zoo lol. And with the sharks, most beaches have lifeguards and they'll evacuate everyone out of the water if there's been so much as a shark sighting.
