I agree with this. Both women and men need to stop perpetuating sexual violence in our culture. We see it in movies, magazines, billboards, ads, commercials etc... If people would learn to stop using words like "slut" and "whore" to describe women, we'd be much better off. If people would stop saying that a man's masculinity depends on how many women he's slept with, we'd be way better off. I'm in college and the amount of sexual harassment and violence is unbelievable. People don't think it's that big of a deal and it is.
No one does that. I'm a woman and I've had interactions with many females in my life. None of them call every guy a per or a creep. We only call them that if they act perverted or creepy...
I think we've interacted with different girls then. I've seen my female friends call random guys creeps or pervs just on the way they look. I'll happily trade for your friends though if they don't call guys pervs/creeps without knowing them or their context.
People like you make sick - almost as sick as rapists who get a 6 month sentence.
"Sociologists define society as the people who interact in such a way as to share a common culture. The cultural bond may be ethnic or racial, based on gender, or due to shared beliefs, values, and activities."
If you commit rape, you're sentenced to jail. Rape is rightly vilified in Western society and it's a CRIME - in some occasions worse than murder.
If we lived in a 'rape culture' we'd accept rape and we'd condone it.
Just because one guy got let off a rape case, doesn't mean we live in a rape culture lol... it just means your justice system is fundamentally flawed.
@Regulatus "6 months in jail is WAY too long for rape." Let's see, if your fiancee, wife or sister were raped, which punishment would you consider adequate? "Even if it was legitimately rape, which we all know 99% of the time it isn't." You must be joking! Or do you REALLY pretend that 99% of raped girls who file a complaint subject themselves to police, rape kit examination and DA interrogation and lawyer counter interrogation, in front of a jury, just because they like that? Or because they want to hurt males that way?
@Regulatus Taking those humiliating hurdles is paying an unbelievable high price, for WHAT? And-according to you- that price would be paid in 99% of rape filings? Stay realistic, please. The big majority of rapes are never reported because of these humiliations and hurdles.
Bro if I'm the type of person that makes you sick you need to find yourself a stronger stomach.
My Take is written specifically on what rape culture is IN AMERICA, because I fully recognize that it is different than what you would see in other countries. Just because rape is recognized by the government as a crime does not mean that society's views towards it do not make it a certain way.
@Regulatus, I'm not sure if you know the procedure for investigating rape claims, but the prevalence in which you seem to believe it happens as a way to "hurt men" is grossly exaggerated. What victims have to go through to order to even make a claim that will be investigated is hardly worth even the most petty woman trying to get back at a man.
The term itself and some of you considerations are rather ignorant in my opinion. Video games I have to say is your most ridiculous example. With that said, I believe that convicted male rapists much like Brock Turner should be sent away to pound me in the ass prison. I cannot condone nor reject death row as an option Same for female offenders, obviously fewer, but still out there and generally receive light sentences in comparison. As far as preventing actual rape.. I do not believe there is any besides taking a self defense class and or keep a little can of pepper spray nearby. Yeah some of us guys are assholes and tend to go a little too far at times, but that's not a reason for SJW's or some of your beliefs here to overplay and over complicate what is just generally male behavior as "rape culture"
Honestly the fact that Brock Turner got 6 months for raping a woman, is exactly why the United States needs feminism. Not only that but the fact that Brock Turner got more time than 97% of convicted rapists, is bullshit. Yeah go on and bring the downvotes, you pathetic basement dwellers, who think rape victims ask for it.
bullshit. Brock Turner is a rare case-the case of a CELEBRITY or WELL-CONNECTED male. yet how he was handled IS THE NORM for female rapists and pedophiles-they almost always get away with it. We "need feminism" so female criminals can get away with it... so women can falsely accuse rape and not be punished. so women can be above the law. it's disgusting. so is your opinion.
@feminismisnarcissism I don't feel like arguing. So I am just going to agree. However you do have google at your disposal. So if you don't look it up and see how right I am, I will just say you are choosing to be stupid. Oh goody. Did I piss you off? Is that what the downvoted is for?
no, i didn't say "angry". I said "disgusted". And google can't give you life experience. With your entitlement, you'll find feminism will disempower you, more and more as your life progresses.
you sound like you're having a monologue as nothing you say pertains to anything I've said. But once again-your entitlement is showing and is highly UNattractive. work on it ;)
Now I'm off to bed, so you'll have to stomp your foot at someone else :)
I'm thinking the exact same thing as you. Well put together! How can these things change? Well... I don't think it can be changed short of every human being wearing a small camera with them at all times...
Rape culture is: The California Supreme Court ruled 6-1 that if a woman rescinds consent during the sex act, the man is guilty of rape if he does not stop immediately. It also ruled that statements such as "I should go home" constitute an unambiguous "no" on the woman's part.
What are the facts of the case? Seventeen-year-old Laura T. attended an otherwise all-male party at which she did not drink. After allowing two teenaged boys to undress and fondle her in a bedroom -- acts she admitted enjoying -- she had sex with each. Laura did not say the word "no" nor did she resist. Instead, she said, "I have to go home."
Because John Z. continued for approximately four minutes after she first expressed what might have been reluctance, he was convicted of rape. --------------------------------------------------------- Rape culture is a man convicted of rape because a teenage girl was late getting home and to avoid punishment, lied and said she was raped.
"Rape culture is when society is more focused on teaching women how not to get raped rather than teaching men not to rape."
Im pretty sure you can educate your children, but if he's already a man, it ain't gonna work. At least teaching women how to fight produces results. That's where we may disagree. Otherwise this is a great myTake.
I have zero formal education on the subject, but after traveling abroad I just find that in the US everything is so oversexualized. So many ads are just naked women, even when it has nothing to do with the product. I feel like people are obsessed with using women's bodies in a sexual context. It's fine to have consensual sex in private, but if that's all people think about 24 hrs a day I'd say there's something wrong.
when everything is okay and no one gets to critcize anyone like in americas case , then such things are bound to happen, you either ban certain things and control the society you live in or you just let people do whatever they feel like and then fix their mistakes later.
the funny thing though is that the moment the my take owners' boyfriend demands a bj she will get on her knees with no questiosn asked and suck his lolip with passion.
@jacquesvol she commented on many questions before and she admitted that she does everything to make her boyfriend feel comfrotable including giving head and sex whenever he needs it.
Your comment about my relationship and my supposed willingness to give blowjobs is insulting. I can tell you, and if you care to, you can ask him as well, that things only happen with we both want it. Though you can assume what you want, because I won't try and explain the dynamic of my sex life to you. I have NEVER done any such thing, admitting I do EVERYTHING to make him comfortable. Do some research. Quote me, with a link.
never said it has anything to do with rape but it is contradicting when someone writes all of the above and on the other hand pleases the person he/she is insulting, if you really think all of the above is true then good for you , but i know that deep down you want a dominant, good looking, and musculine boyfriend, this is how every girl is like, they talk shit about guys and their next boyfriend is the exact type of guy they hate on , iam not even made since i do lots of the so called " bad " things, no not rape and i dont insult girls but i do realise there is a line between being a man and a woman that should not be crossed.
But technology is opening up opportunities for potential rape but guys do it subtlely. They even have the stupidity to pass those pictures around school.
"Rape culture is assuming when you go out that every nicely dressed guy or girl is looking for a hookup or someone to go home with at the end of the night. Rape culture is what I've personally seen going out in New York, at the end of the night, at 3am, when all the guys who didn't get a girl in the club mill around outside and chat up every single girl that walks out trying to take them home."
REALLY, I call this freedom of speech but I guess chatting is rape if your totally nuts
I'm not sure if you've seen the type of "chatting" that happens at 3am after a night of drinking and partying. It's not a "hello how was your night" type of chat, it's aggressive, arm grabbing, pulling, "hey you should come with us" chats.
I'm well versed in it. Done it a thousand times (many times successfully BTW). I can be fairly convincing apparently. but arm grabbing and pulling is not chatting. The quote says chatting not pulling, grabbing, etc.
And most of the other quotes are BS too by the way. I could have picked many
So many people choose to say there is no prevalent rape culture but even saying that there are a lot of false rape claims and any small excuses just proves it even more
I've always hated this "point". You're basically saying "I'm right, and if you say I'm wrong, that just proves how right I am" So if I agree, it supports your claim, and if i disagree, it supports your claim. Hell of a way to set up a debate, isn't it?
@ScottieO OK if you need me to describe it and prove it take for example the many rape cases where people suspect it's a false claim or the case about that swimmer who raped an unconscious woman. His father and many people argued that he still had a bright future as opposed to considering the future of the victim and how she felt. There are instances where people say a girl could be crying rape for attention or to get money out of the case. That makes it hard af to prove that there was a rape and makes it even hard for women to testify.
If you don't understand what I'm trying to say or don't get the meaning behind the words then honestly I don't know what to do, I don't got the time to explain every one of my thoughts or opinions
rape is bad thats sure but if u had sex with guy and u dont remember the details because u here drunk ot high does that give u the right to accuse of rape without proof ofc no does revrse rape have the smae standard or rverything become more important when a vagina is in the case

That's the only correct answer to any question. The facts dictate the answer, not your perception of the facts, and not your reason for needing the facts; the facts as are and that alone.

men don't need education on not raping anymore than mothers need education on not murdering their kids.
men who want to have sex with unconscious women are terrible
Rape culture is bullshit.

@Tombstone1000100 Rape culture is where rape is prevalent and acceptable. White Americans are far less likely to rape unless they're in prison.
@QuestionMan in my opinion white men are less likely to be indicted. Would they have better lawyers maybe?
