As a movement, its repercussions have sometimes gone too far. Father's rights in divorce is particularly damaging.

But the crap one sees on GaG on practically every other item in the live feed (in both the topics of the questions and many of the appalling responses) is evidence of how very, very far there still is to go.

It's a shame that so many people are confused and/or threatened by the idea of gender equality. Having a movement that speaks up about all the unbelievable BS that women have to put up with, and trying to change it, is a good thing. And seeing it as only pro-female or as anti-male is to completely misunderstand it.

Feminism isn't for equality anymore, it's for entitlement feminism is entitlement and they just use the definition to cover up their tracks. Ya feminism is for equality ya that's why i see #kill all men or # men need to be put in concentrated camps. I'm not lying I've seen those posts, a lot of them too.

Equalitarian movements only exist because feminism only pushes for benefits for women. It lives off of the erroneous notion that women always get the short stick. They dont. Even in a patriarchal and chauvinistic society, women always got a lot of benefits. Feminism is closer to "I want rights but without the obligations men always face a. k. a. I want privilege" than anything that resembles equality.

"A vast majority of men and women actually believe and put into practice a lot of feminist teaching".

So you do understand that feminism is an IDEOLOGY and not just a word everybody knows the definition of? The definition of feminism has become irrelevant and nobody takes it seriously precisely because of that reason.

exactly-the only thing in feminism that is about equality IS the definition, they are empty words now. "equality" is just a buzzword to feminists and the last thing in their hearts.

The words help define that idea. Our lifestyle helps us put that idea into practice. To say what you said because a few people abuse the idea and misuse the word, doesn't make those people right. Ex, not all Christian hate Homosexual, not all Muslims support Isis, not all white men are part of the KKK, and not all BLM people hate whites and want to kill cops. To even think the opposite of these things is simply naive and foolish. Also, to down play the history of a movement and to ignore the true meaning and the evolved ideaology of the movement is completely foolish as well. To say the definition has become irrelevant is an over reach. I mean if that is so than tell me why are we still having this conversation. Why are we still fighting for equal pay? Why is it such a big discussion for paid family leave ( for both men and women) once a woman has given birth to a baby? Ask yourself this. Because once it is mandatory I promise you will be using the benifits the benefits.

@davisgirl89 mostly in civil custody matters directly, since you ask.
women get a 7 to 1 custody advantage with no basis in science. they pay 10% of child support vs. 90% paid by men. In domestic violence, they get the edge too: THey CAUSE and perpetuate 70% of DV, yet get away with it... all things I'm very personally familiar with. And don't get me started on indirectly. WOmen have superior status in the west and keep playing victim... it's disgusting.

Men are committing suicide in the west in epidemic numbers, and that ends the argument on who is oppressed in the west, and it ain't women anymore.

@feminismisnarcissism. Have you ever thought of why women are awared custody more often? Ots because of in most cases the judge has to figure out who has been the primary caregiver for the child. Meaning who has spent more time with the child, who has put more effort into raising that child and who wants the responsibility of having that child. Now, as for the child support, most men don't pay so it doesn't even matter. They would rather not pay the money instead of making sure their children have what they need. I say this because my father was one of this men. He refused to. He left the burned on my mother and when he asked for us to stay with him he couldn't even handle raising children for 4 years. Even than my mother paid her child support to my father and she even sent us money that my father kept from us. Money that was suppose to be used for my senior year that he used to pay for his side chick.

@davisgirl89 To answer your first post, yes, the definition of feminism has become irrelevant because in reality, feminism is not about equality at all. The different types of modern feminist theories are biased, toxic and abhorrent. Most feminist demands and "grievances" don't bear scrutiny because they are a based on non-existent injustices and inequalities.

Men and women have the same rights. As a woman, nothing and nobody prevent me from making any choices in my life. Nothing and nobody can stop me from doing whatever I please as long as it's not illegal. So I don't feminism.

men and women are not equal and are not capable of the same things. Chilbirth being the biggest example.

Feminism is the act of trying to get more advantage for women by demanding the best parts of the typical male roles while retaining the best parts of stereotypical female roles and often even trying to pawn the all negative duties on men

If feministsreally wanted equality they would be demanding more programs to encourage male nurses and female trash collectors and truck drivers. Not just more female engineers and doctors.

I never would have formed the habit of taking time to help men in my field advance , and men exclusively if it weren't for my hate of evil, biased sexist, bigoted feminism

Darling you are a feminist. You are freely speaking your opinion that does not evolve around taking care of your home and rearing your children. You are not waiting on a husband hand and foot, and if you are not marriage and with child... You are a feminist. Don't look down on a cause that helped you enjoy the lifestyle you are accusume to.
Hating men does not make you a feminist, it makes you prejudice. All these men who say feminist are bad, because of a few post or the woman that they met that hate men, don't really mean feminist are bad, they mean those woman prejudices are bad. Which any rational human being would agree. Just because a few people misuse a word doesn't make the misuse of the word the correct definition. It just makes the people who misuse the word igornant.

I can understand that and it is YOUR RIGHT to choose that life style. But may I ask why you don't consider yourself a feminist? Before I really understood the word I would not have consider myself a feminist because of the negative atmosphere surrounding the word but once I realized what it meant, and how, if the rights I currently have were taken away, how I would feel, I knew I would never allow that to happen. There is nothing wrong with pushing for equal rights, Not pushing is a disservice to yourself. And undermining your worth. At least that is my opinion.

At this point, if you don't believe that patriarchy is the defining element of our culture (or some intersectional version of that), you are not a feminist.

Simply believing in equality would get you drummed out of any academic or activist feminist group.

No, I wouldn't have been.

Well even if it has changed that much and it doesn't stand for equality. I don't care, because I do and that proves that I'm not one of them. If I hated men I would be homo. Lol. But at the same time it doesn't give guys the right to label us feminists just for having opinions that they do not agree with. I fight back if someone starts any shit with me and that applies to both men and women on here. I do not favour one gender over another.

@Shorty1991 I actually think some people DO abuse the word feminist by the way, or feminazi (which is highly inaccurate. The more shall we say controversial aspects of feminism are essentially Marxist in thought, with patriarchy replacing capitalists, and women replacing the proletariat)

Hitler was a vegetarian who loved children and animals. That doesn't make child loving vegetarians Nazis. Arguments must be met on their merits, but yes, many people do love to simply say 'you're an xyz' and reject it all.

There are plenty of other areas on the internet where any critique of say the idea of patriarchy results in a tsunami of people telling you to go back to your red pill/mra cave with the rest of the misogynist entitled scum.

I think the word "rape" needs to stop being abused.

A 15 year old and a 18 year old agree to have sex sex, society says it's rape.

Two drunk people agree to have sex, society says it's rape.

It devalues the meaning of rape.

I wish you luck in dealing with the people on this site. They're not going to change their minds and probably cause they're bored waiting for their mom to hurry up with that meatloaf. Earlier today there was a man who wanted to hookup with a coworker even though she repeatedly said no, I told him to back the hell off and he called me a feminist.
I imagine his logic like this:
Me: back the hell off she said no
Him: what is it with this feminist bullshit.

I think for most of the users on GaG, Feminism is very similar to Socialism (one person actually linked the two)... they haven't met one, are ignorant of what it's about, and make judgements based on a kindergarten level understanding of issues related to it. Many head straight to conspiracy theories, which is the last rhetorical refuge of someone that can't support a logical argument.

That's fair. I fully admit there are sane feminists, and I have nothing against them.
But feminazis are also feminists. Feminism isn't a static ideology with only one inturpritation, it has many "schools," and calling out a feminazi for feminist bullshit means calling them in their bullshit, not insulting all of feminism.

      However, worth noting?
I've made posts where I call out feminazis, and make it clear I am speaking only about feminazi shit, and not feminism or women in general, and had feminists dog pile me. So, even when we do differentiate, and make a distinction between feminists and feminazis, it is the feminists here who are failing to accept that distinction, and in effect, claiming there is no distinction between crazy batshit feminists, and sane reasonable feminists.

Communist parties were organisations, yet they had nothing to do with original (Utopian) Communism, the same goes for present political organisations posing as "feminist".
Personally, I admire real feminists like Daphne Patai , Lisa Lucile Owens, and Christina Hoff Sommers, although, they are not famous among the organisations of so called "feminists" (actual femi nazis).
