As a Canadian who lived in Europe I was seen as "almost" American and ended up being accused of and asked to defend Americans. If nothing else this made me fonder of my neighbours to the south.

Also we don't have much control over who runs for president, we are a republic with a two party system we don't get to choose which candidates run.

@jjesica346 Unfortunatley. The irony is that we where never suppose to have a party system and the two men who mentioned how it would create a system where the parties did things to put themselves first instead of the people (I believe it was Hamilton and Madison). If we could limit the powers of the party by preventing gerrymandering and the huge amount of money spent for campaigns (and of course making our country a true democracy) we might be able to break up the party system but until then we are stuck with this.

You stated that the current election is enough of an excuse to bash America, I pointed out that if that's the case why are we only bashing America and not every single other country? Its kind of a terrible argument if all countries are doing the same thing why would you bash one but not the others. Also again, one thing that is beyond the populaces control should not be used to bash the entire country and its people. So again its beyond our control we don't choose who runs for president, the entire country has pretty much outright stated they hate the current candidates and yet some how we are still being bashed for it? It seems a bit unfair. Kind of like insulting England for having a queen, its not really something they have a say in so why would they be judged on that?

Okay, clearly your confused. I never said you claimed that you claimed that one aspect of what is happening in America is a good enough reason to bash the entire country, my rebuttal to that was that the same thing applies to other countries so why is it that only America is being bashed but no one else? Why is that same reasoning not being applied to other countries instead its only being applied to America. Its the uneven application of the reasoning that I am questioning. No one ever said other countries where perfect no one claimed that you said it, I am stating that by your reasoning you and every one else has equal reason to bash every other country in the world yet that's not what's happening. Again if this is a legitament response then every one should be fair game so then why is it almost entirely directed at America?
Again, to reiterate no one stated that you claimed every other country is perfect, whats being questioned is the singular focus of your criticism and insults being directed towards America and America only if all others are doing the same thing. Why are the rest being ignored and only America targeted. That's the question.

I don't dislike Americans by any stretch, I see them as a grand continuation of Anglo-Saxony, though I have a strong disdain towards the American government.
You can dislike a country's modern government without disliking its people, its tradition or its history, which I think a lot of people tend to get mixed up.
Just be thankful you weren't born in England (though you might have English heritage, who knows), otherwise Europeans WOULD legitimately hate you for odd reasons.
