When you buy a diamond you don't know from where it's from... Also you can do the same take about nike or any sport shoes / clothes. I don't think many people would stop buying them just because of that...

  Oh, well, bahah an engagement ring shouldn't be "a surprise"... at least not a *total* surprise, anyway. Remember, she's going to be wearing that thing for the rest of her LIFE.
  
  What can/should be a surprise is the TIMING of a proposal -- as well as the specifics of the proposal itself. (Private is better. Public proposals are cheesy as fuck.). But, you should really go ring shopping... or at least get a VERY specific sense of what kind of thing she would appreciate/like.
  
  Honestly, if she's not a spoiled brat, you could just tie a string around her finger when you actually get engaged, and then go ring shopping together later.
