I wanted to write a short MyTake about my country, Italy, the country of the holly pizza, and the 500 variety of pastas.
The country of people dancing and singing and shouting in the crowded streets using lots and lots of hand gestures ...
You know you are in italy when:
it's all about soccer, soccer, and soccer. Italian soccer fans have good reason to be passionate: our country’s national team has won the World Cup championship four times and is consistently ranked among the best in the world. In addition, Italian league teams attract some of the top soccer talent in the world .. and help me lord do they look good.
Men & HouseholdUsually an Italian Man besides looking amazing, also loves to cook, clean and they are very Loyal and family oriented. They are highly passionate and love to spoil their women a lot. Most of them are mommas boys, but to us Italian women, that is only a plus !!
Hand gesturesWe Italians like to say that a gesture is more valuable than a thousand words. As we talk, our hands fly in the air making unmistakable signs, our faces twist into funny expressions.
When people portray Italian stereotypes, they often use this gesture:
Ma che stai a dì/ma che vuoi? ("What the hell are you saying?")
And yeah, the stereotypes are right. ( I use this one way too much ) For this one, the fingertips of either hand are brought together, upright while the hand is waved up and down. It can be used to ask "what the hell are you saying?" or "what the heck do you want?" Italians frequently use it in conversation. Even when they're on the phone or talking to themselves. It's often an involuntary gesture -- something we can't help doing, like blinking or producing the world's best "gelato".
Tourists Well, you are not a tourist if you haven't done this when you visited Pisa. Did you know that it took 199 years to build the Leaning Tower of Pisa, beginning in August 1173. The construction was stopped twice, the first time for 100 years, the second time in 1284. Both times it was due to wars.
The foundation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, only 3 meter deep, was built on a dense clay mixture. As it turned out, the clay was not strong enough to hold the tower upright. It began to lean in 1178, once construction on the second floor had begun.
Pasta & Pizza (duh) There are more than 600 pasta shapes worldwide, but in Italian pasta names don’t sound particularly appetizing. Spaghetti means strings, vermicelli are small worms, farfalle are butterflies, orechiette small ears, linguine little tongues and ravioli little turnips. And yes, this will shock you but the average person in Italy eats more than 51 pounds of pasta every year. The average person in North America eats about 15-1/2 pounds per year.
The Temperament
Honestly, try not to mess with an Italian woman ... just trust me on this (my boyfriend has been there, he has done that ... ask him)
Our Patience in driving (there is none)
The horn is our best friend when someone hesitates at the traffic lights or at a stop sign for a few nanoseconds.
We have a lot of streets that are way too narrow for one-way traffic and they still somehow allow two-way traffic, we don't respect street signs ... we just don't who has time for that (an Italian doesn't)
Si my advice, if you want to visit Italy and rent a car to drive around : JUST DON'T !
This is what i face everyday when i finish work ....
We are overly superstitiousTrust me, we can take superstition to the next level. Avoiding walking under a ladder is pretty common, but things can get tricky when someone refuses to carry on driving because a black cat has just crossed their path. To avoid “sfortuna,” or bad luck, one would make a substantial detour ... remember what I said about us and driving ....
We're not into queuingFor all you patient British folks, Italy is a nightmare. We don’t queue, we just stand close to one another until we see an opportunity to overtake you. But for us, it’s perfectly normal! Arm yourself with a lot of patience, or download a game on your phone and don’t get offended by nudges, we most probably didn’t mean it .
..
We use a bidet regularly. But what for? This is always so weird for foreigners, the bidet is a lower sink placed next to the toilet in Italian bathrooms. Many foreigners stare in wonderment at this fixture. Well its real purpose is for cleaning your nether regions after using the toilet. While they’re also omnipresent in other European homes, 97 percent of homes in Italy have a bidet. You know, we like to have it lean down there....
Well, overall, we are just crazy, and honestly, people still love us, we don't like to be compared with the New York Italians, we never heard of "Jersey Shore" , I still don't know who they are and what they do ... we don't do that overly annoying fist pump, YES we have the mafia but which country doesn't ? And NO, we don't drive Ferraris, are you crazy? The way we drive it would kill us man...
Hope you enjoyed, if you want to know more about my country, feel free to ask in the comment section.
I would like to know what kind of habits you guys have from your countries ?? I'm so curious and I would love to read each and all of them !!!
I really want to visit Italy someday😍😍... Especially Venice, Naples, Florence, Rome... I have also heard a lot about Capri.. 😇 Interestingly I find quite few similarities with Indians - Men being momma's boys, family oriented - Superstitious - Not being into queues - Lots of traffic jam in cities These are similarities I found 🙈

love italy. my wife and i spent two weeks traveling around on our honeymoon. i drove many places but avoided city driving. but the highway driving was very easy. in the cities i only drove as far as our hotel and then we'd leave our car and walk or use public trans
drove a little bit in rome (to get to and from our hotel) and naples (to get to the airport). rome felt like pure chaos. naples seemed orderly but still hard to drive around, especially when you're relying entirely on GPS. I also drove along the amalfi coast. that was only nerve wracking because how narrow the roads are (especially with massive tour buses), the steep cliff down to the ocean on one side and how aggressive the italians drove on those roads
Men: "they are very Loyal" lol here in America people have the idea that they're all playboys and cheaters xD
Pisa? Honestly, it's a waste of time. There's nothing more than the tower, and then tourists and people selling shirts. My family and I made the stupid mistake of choosing Pisa over Florence, simply for the tower... what a waste :(
Your soccer sucks... we have better soccer in Spain :P xD
Bidets... oh the so useful bidets how I miss them. Most homes in Spain also have them. I didn't realize how awesome they are till I moved to America, where people don't know what a bidet is lol I have to get in the shower every time I poop xD
I really like Italy, I was there during a summer and visited Pisa, Rome (and the Vatican), and the ruins of Pompeii after climbing to the top of the Vesuvius (we were taking a cruise so we were in every city just for 1 day). I reeeeally want to visit again, this time going to Florence, Venice, Milan, and spend more time in Rome.
@FatherJack Yeah, I can understand some Italian and Portuguese if I read it. If they speak it, I can't, especially Italians, geez, they speak at 100 mph xD
I LOVE Italy, rented studios or apartments in Rome, Firenze, Venezia. And yes, I have a pasta and an espresso addiction. A gelati addiction too (I prefer cassata but it's sometimes harder to get.) I drove in Roma and Napoli during the sixties. Backing up 200m in a popular street in Santa Lucia with a group of kids climbing my bumpers, their parents looking on... :-o It's much better these days.
I must say that -despite the chaotic driving in cities- I witnessed few serious car accidents during all the years I went to Italy. MUCH fewer accidents than in Belgium or France.
Ziiiio come stai? La pizza de la mama sta prosciutto lmao I wanted to say ready but I said ham instead, works both ways :D
I love italians, they're some of the funniest people I've met, they've just got all of these ways of expressing things that make you crack up and also I love the sound of the language, when girls speak it it's so melodious and beautiful it's a real turn on (especially if you don't understand what they're saying lolol)
Awesome my take. My sister and mom are going to venice in April. They invited me but I turned that down because I'll be in school. Also during the week they're going to be gone, I have my clinicals at a hospital that I absolutely can not miss. I would love to go to Italy but it will be a while before I travel anywhere. It will be a while just because I'm still trying to figure out my life and my career.
Aww that is understandable dear, well you can visit anytime, I live 1 hour away from venice, they will have lots of fun <3 and they chose the perfect month for a visit !!!
Haha, I love how detailed and informative your takes are, seem like they would take forever to do. Anyway I can't add much sadly, for this take... America (Florida) has like all the crappy habits. And I try to pick up none lol.
Aw I'm sorry that I actually stopped you from sleeping lol, well I am so so glad you liked this. And hope you got a little Italian taste after reading it :D hope you'll visit our crazy bums soon.
Haha, no worries it was a good read worth forfeiting the sleep lol. And I did, I did! Got a whole Olive Garden sized taste of Italy 😁. I do intend to visit Italy someday, Venice shows up in a lot of my movies and games lol. Can't wait to ride a gondola, sightsee or try Italian dishes from the source, pizza and spaghetti 😃.
Great my take. My mother is from and lives in Milan, and my sister currently lives in Bergamo with her husband who is from there. I've been proud to call Italy my second home for most of my life. Sometimes I stop and feel so lucky, it's such a beautiful, friendly, fun place... and Aperitivo will always be the best time of day!
I definitely would like to visit Italy. All my friends say its an amazing country with amazing food, culture and people. I'd post things about my country but I see people are tired of the posts about it...😅
Been to Napoli & stayed with my then family in laws in Sperone & near Sorrento !! Must be a Latin thing for the crazy driving , Spain = as crazy as Italy , Portugal... even crazier !! My daughter is growing up to be a true Italiana , she takes after Mamma's side !!
I know that Italian guy who is professional football player, plays guitar, he's a great cook, has the most beautiful greenish-blue eyes I've seen, hot body and he's really caring and sweet. I even started studying Italian after I got to know him haha
One day I am gonna visit Italy. I've heard you guys have similar temperament as us, Georgians. My Italians guy friends tell me this all the time. One of them is from Roma, another one from small village in Sicily by the sea.
Oh yeah I know what you mean, and the more south you go, the wilder it gets, I am from Venice, and my boyfriend is from Lecce which is basically the HEEL of Italy (and it's an amazing place to visit)
But we both live in Venice or basically 1 hour away from the center of Venice.
Omg I have a friend from Italy and I didn't know with the expressions to go fuck my self lol. But with that tourist photo you might see me taking that photo in 6 years lol. Well my habits are hunting, competitive shooting , Fishing , Go kart , Dirt biking , cooking , Working out , And stay active.
Haha when I was in Italy holy shit the driving is crazy... I was like are there any rules on the road here? Really amazing country though lol my friend taught me curse words lol and the food is so delicious :D
The other intrigue I have about Italy or more Italian characteristics is the behaviour of Males towards Women
' Madonna versus Slut mentality'
By this, they either worship women and have her on a pedestal or treat her like a piece of dirt. i noticed this backpacking through there on my honeymoon with my ex wife and a Canadian girl we picked up in Switzerland. They were all over my ex wife:
' Ciao bella, ti voglio bene, ti adoro tesoro mio... baci baci...'
mainly for she was very feminine, whereas with the Canadian lass who was a punk and dressed accoringly, it was:
I hear good and bad things about Italy.. I do wanna visit one day though, and I will.. Can't do that without visiting the Motherland first though.. Lol..
Grazie mile! Anch'io molti amici a Parma, brescia e Milano, così io vorrei a ritornare presto. Anche, perche io voglio a visitare venezia, Firenze e un paio di altri luoghi (entranbi in Italia e altri paesi) 🙃
Io so Udine e lecce.
