Why I don't really Give A Crap about Politics

Politics.

For some of us, there's a little bit of tension at the back of the throat when someone says the word. For the most part, people just continue on with life, but then there are THOSE people, who will rant on...and on....and on...

...about so-and-so, and how they're such-and-such. I roll my eyes every time. The thing is, complaining won't fix a country, or a state, county, district, what-have-you. Yes, it's nice to have someone to sympathise with. But not every day. Not when the same things are spread for all to see already, like yesterday's dirty laundry after the dog had at it.

I honesty don't give two sh*ts about the prime minister, or the president, or the king, or anyone.

For the most part they don't really exist. Not in my life. I don't pass them on the way to work, or run into them in woolies. They're just pixels on a screen, or a bit of ink on paper.

They're kind of useless. The pothole that I hit five months ago is still there, larger than life. Nobody has cut the grass on the side of the road for weeks. Where are my taxes going?

But to put it this way...I generally don't have much to complain about.

Considering that these dudes are a bit corrupt, but they manage to keep society well-oiled and functioning reasonably well.

Yes, I might not like the idea of this policy, or that new tax, or this restriction...but where would I be if I wasn't hating this person in an immaculate suit and tie?

To be honest, is one person, or a building of them, capable of keeping everyone happy? Hell no. No one can really make that call.They can't please everyone, or keep them all fed.

People sometimes forget that we're all living differently. Yes, it sucks that nothing is fair.

I'm quite happy to accept a politician for all their flaws. just as long as the country remains peaceful. That is where I draw the line.

Your profile says you live in Australia. Are you just talking about Australians? Because it doesn't seem like it. But I would imagine that, in Australia, it's fine to not care about politics.

In the US, though, the best example I've ever seen so far of one person as a politician having a pretty big impact on people's lives is President Trump. This dude is executive order-ing left and right (which takes Congress, the Senate, the courts and arguably the voters out of the equation), and he has already replaced Obamacare (our health insurance policy law) in a way that will significantly harm the elderly and the poor. He has also tried at least twice now to effect a travel ban, which has already done stuff like leave Americans stranded in other countries and unable to get back home or back to their jobs, and has kept people who had been planning for some time to move to the US and completely arranged their lives around that because they had previously been approved to move here from coming. He has been in office less than two months.

I'm not interested in arguing with Trump supporters about what Trump is doing and I won't because I genuinely ignore people's comments/responses to me online TO avoid arguments that will go absolutely nowhere good. So, that's not the point of this. But in the US we put idiots in office who shouldn't be there, and I'm not just talking about Trump--I think Obama and George W Bush never should have been President, I think the most qualified person to be President in the US will NEVER be President here, and we put idiots in Congress, Senate, as Mayor, etc. A lot of that is about our country being full of idiots, not just in terms of voters but also in terms of the people running and not having better options. I seriously doubt Australia is full of idiots like we are and, apparently, the UK is, and you all don't seem to have many of the kind of problems we have or don't have them to the same degree. So far in the US, the most idiotic person to be elected is threatening to do the most damage to individuals, and our country already had a lot of significant problems prior to him getting into office.

I could go on, but anyway... yeah, this is probably fine for you. In other countries, people are seriously getting f*cked depending on what's going on politically and who is in office.

I know for a fact that there's nothing I can personally do about anything. Peacefully protest? Yeah right, like that's really changed anything. Well it has, but it takes a lot of time and like-minded people. And quite frankly, i can't see people flipping tables with me unless SHTF. Like really hit the fan.
I acknowledge that trump is not the greatest politician, but democracy is democracy. Those of us who do not get involved choose not to because it usually involved screaming and table bashing. Its not worth ruining relationships over. Well, it applies to me anyway.
Politics riles people up... I personally get frustrated because suddenly I'm not living MY life, I'm suddenly looking after every other man and his dog, suddenly I'm not in control, and there's a big question mark over my (and everyone else's future.) The more I think about it the more I want to die or become a hermit.
Yes, I am lazy and ignorant.

That's all fine and good, as long as you DO NOT VOTE. There is nothing worse that a voter who does not take the task seriously enough to thoroughly research the candidates and issue and form educated opinions BEFORE they vote, because frankly they fuck things up for the rest of us who do. Sadly, a majority of voters typically fall into that category.

i have admitted to it as it is how i feel on the subject. As an individual i feel hopeless.
I believe people can live their lives off the grid. Yes, they'll die horribly of some disease, but at least they'll be happy.
And personally I'd rather die happy and young than miserable.
Man can live without all this complication.
One day.
And dignity? Does it even matter? For me, certainly not. In the end we're all in the waiting room for death.
