I'm not really on board with abolishing gender roles, but I think you make an interesting point about trans people. I always found it odd when feminists say gender is just a social contruct but then also support the idea of trans people being born the wrong gender.
How someone wants to live their life is their own buisness, not someone elses, just let them be happy. I'm ok with someone being themselves as long as they are happy. But I will not give special treatment to them just because they are Trans gender or a homosexual. Only time I will give special treatment is if it's needed.
Hi, devil's advocate here: so you say "Only time I will give special treatment is if it's needed." What does that even mean? If you're truly okay with " someone being themselves as long as they are happy," then that would suggest if they need something relevant to making this so, is providing that for them actually special treatment or just regular treatment? What you're really saying is more like, as long as watchmen is happy and not inconvenienced in any such way nor has to make any type of concession or change anything ever on any front, then you will "allow" others to be happy being themselves. It's bathroom law for example. People are fine with Trans "being them," but not using the bathroom with them if it's not in accordance to their biological gender. Then the bio gender says, they'll kill them if they try to use the same bathroom. Then other people say, well, we're not building another bathroom. So they're unhappy b/c they can't pee.
I like women who are feminine. Women like men who are masculine (even the polls on here show this!). Someone who has a need to act like the opposite sex has issues, period. If you or they want to be genderless or crossdress, fine, but I will look at you as an oddity. You don't get to tell me what is right and wrong about how I view you. You can control how you look and feel but not others, it isn't your right.
Look if you were born a boy then grow up to be a man. Same with girls being Gay is sick. Straight up You don't see any animals having identity issue's do you? When it comes to sexually Some Humans are sick. To hear that a gay person was born that way. Is like me saying although I'm100% blue eyed Italian inside I'm 100% Black. That's crazy...
"The only thing that separates men from women is biology -- genitals and some hormones, and that's about it. Everything else was coined by mankind and is now a tool to oppress every single one of us."
Painfully false. And if the premise is bad usually the conclusion isn't sound either.

I really dislike all the non-binary, millions of genders crap people are spewing. Its easy, look between your legs... thats what you are. If you have a "deformity" such as 2 vaginas or two penises, then that is different. That's uncontrollable. Gender is not identified as biological sex by some people but it's false to make up genders. if I were to identify as an 80 year old woman but biologically I am 20, would that be correct? I can start living in a nursing home at 20?
It does make a lot of sense what you say but it just makes it more confusing applying labels to people, from what I understand gender and sex are different meanings actually, people can be free to identify as what ever they want but just need to make it simple as either a man or woman

"and is now a tool to oppress every single one of us."
"Only biological sex does. Everything else is a social construct that needs to be abolished."
"enforced on humans with a vagina for centuries."
These statements require proof. You can't just make things up.

Oh but there is proof. You can read several authors that back that up. I didn't post references because this isn't a scientific article but I can recommend a few books if you're really interested.
I agree that some of those statements kind of irked me too
I absolutely don't feel oppressed by traditional gender roles and neither does my boyfriend. They work well for both of us. So just because you don't agree with something, doesn't mean it oppresses everybody else
A woman wearing red lipstick is scientifically proven to attract men while men wearing red lipstick doesn't attract women, so that's not a social construct. I get the general concept that trans people shouldn't identify red lipstick with being feminine and they might be happier, but biology has deemed red lipstick feminine, not society. You can't abolish biology, so it's better accept some things in society rather than fight them
Having a vagina does make you female and having a penis does make you male. Your brain may think something else, but biology prove otherwise. That's why so many trans people have cosmetic surgery and hormone treatments--to conform to evolutionary gender rules, not a social construct
@Idonthaveausername i want a real woman to make children with so transgenderism goes againt my reproductive interests. obviously i am also concerned about my decentdants. if they fall to the dark side and become transgender my bloodline stops there. that would be so sad. my ancestors gave me the promethean flame and want me to pass it on by reproducing, i want my descendants to do the same.
Same. And my family already had a bad history with mental illness, so I need a real man to father my future children who doesn't have the same issues my family has. (My boyfriend and his family seem to be pretty sane so far... and he wants kids...)
yeah I agree with you that gender is a societal / cultural thing and not really based in scientific fact a and therefore nothing is masculine or feminine therefore you can't feel masculine or feminine-you just feel what you feel
All the different kinds of genders are really getting on my nerves. I'm willing to accept 3 genders: Man, Woman (this includes the transgenders) and lastly all the people with birth defects. there really shouldn't be more then that.
I never got the memo behind fighting to abolish gender roles (that are inconvenient to feminists), and yet then whine how one's biological gender doesn't match the one they aspire to be...
"But the thing is: genders don't really exist. Only biological sex does." You lost all respect and credibility with that statement. Your take ends there.

Hahahah then define gender without using a single social construct as reference. Spoiler: you can't.
... not to sound academicist but you have a really overly simplified view on the matter. I can recommend you a few authors that will explain it all better to you than I ever could (I'm obviously not very didactic). That is obviously if you're interested on the subject.
Interested on what subject exactly? If you're going to refer me to lgbt feminist brainwashing websites rather than empirical science I'm not interested...
I understand basic biology and what transgenderism is and there's nothing complex you need to make out of it. by the way, I see you haven't attempted to answer the Q? 🤔
If you're interested on understanding the beginning of gender roles in society and how they affect our lives, but apparently you're not so what can I do.
i already understand the beginning of gender roles in society and why they were built that way. You're not telling me anything new here hun... I was talking to you about gender.
Women and men aren't the same, biologically, they'll never be the same. That's why gender roles exist and WILL continue to exist. So in general, I agree, no one can "feel" like a different gender.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're saying the very act of labeling oneself as a transgender male or female is perpetuating gender stereotypes/social roles?
This is tricky because the person is trying to adopt or identify with a social "group" in the form of gender, but at the same time is redefining/rebelling against these gender roles.
I guess it's s matter of "if I can't beat 'em, I'll join 'em on my own terms!"
Oh come on! Quit it with the oppression and all that BS. I believe if you are biologically a man, you are a man. If you are biologically a woman, you are a woman. If I'm a man and I start to think I'm a woman, that does NOT make me a woman. If I start to think I'm a K2 Black Panther battle tank, that does not make me a battle tank. Traditional gender roles did not appear outta nowhere. If you know what evolution is... wait. I don't think you know about evolution.
You say "perpetuating gender-roles" like gender-role's are a negative. You need to stop perpetuating Orwellian, Social-Marxist propaganda. Gender-Roles are evolutionary constructs.

Interesting, I've also wondered about this myself. This is such a complicated issue though that I don't think society will ever come to a definitive consensus on it.

Hahaha No such thing as a "social constructs" regarding basic biology.
If what defines gender is a social construct, where does this construct come from, how/why was it built, and by who exactly? 🤔
Spolier: Gender is biological and there's only one answer to this Q.
... not to sound academicist but you have a really overly simplified view on the matter. I can recommend you a few authors that will explain it all better to you than I ever could (I'm obviously not very didactic). That is obviously if you're interested on the subject.

Gender does exist. Transgender is a man made gender.
That's basically what I tried to tell her SJW liberal ass 😂
TGs believe they are something they are not and often go to great effort and expense to try to be that which they are not.
Believing one is something he is not is a psychosis.
Women and men aren't the same, biologically, they'll never be the same. That's why gender roles exist and WILL continue to exist. So in general, I agree, no one can "feel" like a different gender.

There is actually five sexes due to some babies born with both genitals. Two of them are just the most common.
To each their own. Everybody chooses to live their life how they feel and want. It's none of my concern
