Interesting… It seems I misread.

It states that is antioxidant properties 「prevent or reduce oxidative damage in biological systems, such as occurs in ischemic/reperfusion injury, or in chronic neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, HIV dementia, and many other oxidation associated diseases」 and is being used in 「preventing, arresting, or treating neurological damage in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and HIV dementia; autoimmune neurodegeneration of the type that can occur in encephalitis, and hypoxic or anoxic neuronal damage that can result from apnea, respiratory arrest or cardiac arrest, and anoxia caused by drowning, brain surgery or trauma (such as concussion or spinal cord shock).」

So, yes it prevents the damage typically induced by the disease, but not the damage-inducing disease itself. I guess that's the best medical science has at the moment. Hopefully, more effective treatments can be found in the future.
