Stereotypes are not something that people just come up with for no reason at all. There is a lot of truth to most of them, even when we don't like it or find it offensive.
I’m Canadian, and Americans are always assuming that I speak French, am obsessed with hockey, and that I live in a frozen wasteland ala Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Revenant.” Well, okay, in my case the first two apply to me.
This is what makes us different from the Americans, we are bilingual... but really only 3 provinces use French. The rest of the country couldn't give any time of day for it! XD Oh! and you forgot the Maple Syrup and that we are really really polite! XD
Luxrmburg, many from America don't even know this country. But those who know say: "Paradise, rich, expensive living, comfortable people that don't like changes" some are true, housing is expensive af, and people are not at all like this here
What do you base that on? Americans are more educated than most people in the world. We obtain lots of patents and win a fair amount of noble prizes. We are top 3 in terms of innovation. Driverless cars, putting objects on Mars are a couple of examples of American innovation that most countries can't match.
@OhMyMan Good points. People base how "dumb" we are on standardized tests, which prove literally how well you can take a test. That's it. It has no correlation with intelligence.
@OhMyMan American achievements are in the hands of a few selected people, many of which are immigrants. In a country with maybe 300 million people, the average American person is actually not that bright and has little knowledge about the world. At least that is the stereotype.
I know some people who have been to Ireland, and told me those were the ugliest women they have ever seen. We live here in the United States of America, so I'm not sure if it's just an American thing, or not.

Bengali stereotype: Rice and fish.
Even though I *personally* love some fish, almost everyone dislikes fish, lol.

We generally don't care. You take it on the chin.
Like this stereo type?
I have great respect for the Germans, and I am Greek. The Germans are perhaps more hardworking and efficient than the Greeks.
Don’t care about stereotypes but I do fit into half of mine. I sunburn very easily.
Well, as far as dumb people goes, we really do lead the world in the USA, don’t we?

I'm a "Cheese-eating surrender monkey" as americans call us.
And to explain what I think about it, I'll quote my history teacher:
"Our cemeteries are full of people who never surrendered".
Those stereotypes hold true for the most part.
The Hitler joke is just cruel, but goes with the other stereotype about German people...
Never heard those for German. Most think racist hitler wannabe or super tall and buff wrestler-ish. Thanks for clearing that up
We’re not all dumb redneck ultra conservative Trump supporting christian that are sexist and racist.

When I have to repeat myself when travelling because people are confused as to how a black person has a British accent.

They're all false except for the stereotype that the Irish are just damned bloody amazing at sex, of course.
Spoken like a true irishman. I'm irish by the way.

@EnglishArtsteacher Could be cuz of the drug addic- . . . I mean. . . Yeah.
@Gusheth Yeah, I heard cocaine is a big problem in Ireland.
I’m Spanish and just get told I love paella, which is true but never the less 😂
