The Real Meaning of Pro Choice

I can already hear people talking about their feelings or religion. We don't need that here so set that aside. Anyways, lets begin.

Name origin

Choice - An act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. (Duh) So being a pro choice means you let girls decide if they wanna abort their baby or not. If they abort it, it's fine. If they wanna keep the baby, its still fine. It's their choice and we pro choice feel that it's just normal for them to do it. Although abortion has a side effect, it's still their decision to take that risk. You can say you're a pro choice but it's your choice to keep the baby and that doesn't make you a pro life. Unless you start judging and bashing on girls who aborts their baby and It's non of your business.

But it's not their body. It's someone else's body. It's not their choice!

You don't even know the baby's choice because it can't think rationally. Sometimes at a later age, they're gonna commit suicide because they regret they're being born and raised by parents who are broke, who don't know how to take care of them and don't even want them in the first place. That's a bigger issue.

But being normal to suicide is not ok. It's not normal to be indifferent to people who has made it far. The baby hasn't even accomplished anything yet. It has no name, social image, citizenship, birth certificate or etc. unlike people who are already born. No body has an official record of what specific day when they had sex. I don't even know what date my parents had sex when they made me and IDGAF. So I personally couldn't care about the baby being aborted.

The reason why people think pro choice is an act of supporting abortion

If you're gonna judge pro choice people then remember this. It's because of the amount of pro choice's choice that's to abort the child making you think that pro choice is pro abortion. You're wrong. It doesn't mean there are literally no pro choice people who keeps their baby as their choice.

Some pro lifers claim they don't judge. That doesn't make them a pro life.

There is a difference. Being a pro choice doesn't mean we support abortion. It just means we're indifferent to it. Because majority of people's choice is to abort, it has that reputation. Pro choice don't really judge girls who chooses to keep the baby even after they're being raped but if they do, that makes them a pro abortion which is the opposite of a pro life.

If you don't want a big issue then don't take sex for granted. I support that better.

There's ways to reduce abortions without banning it in the US. Both an universal healthcare and education system, better welfare system and helping the needy would reduce the abortion rate. If fewer people lived in poverty like disabled and unemployed for instance, fewer people would undergo abortion. Abortion shouldn't be condoned since you're ending another person's life. The government should rather try to prevent as many abortions as possible bettering people's living standards.

Inherent then in the pro-choice argument is the idea that life has no value save that which each person chooses to attach to it. It denies society any authority to make a collective judgment on such questions. Therefore, in this view, the law may not afford protection to life except at some arbitrarily defined (and inherently subjective) point.

This then conduces to an assertion of power over rights. Life is maintained not as its own end, but according to the will of the person who, in effect, controls it because they can. An ethic of convenience is established and it is a very slippery slope on which to build a culture and a legal edifice.

Such a society will not value life that sees life as not an end, but as a means to some other end. Indeed, that is why at about the same time as the culture began to shift on the abortion question we also saw a rise in child abuse, spousal abuse, divorce, out of wedlock births and other social pathologies. These were not unrelated phenomena.

Aristotle said that the first questions of politics are, "How ought we to live? What kind of a people do we wish to be?" The implicit answer of those who support abortion on demand is, in effect, that it is nobody's business. The problem is that one cannot expect the society to absent itself from collective moral judgments on the value of life and then expect morality to follow.

I'm fully aware of many pro-choicers being indifferent about it. I think regardless of you being indifferent about it or supporting abortion, I'm still disagreeing and thinks many of you're ignoring the child's right to live. In the city I was born in majority of women in unfortunately situations underwent abortion, but I was lucky that wasn't aborted. I was adopted and got a loving family, something I'm very glad for. I think people should be allowed a chance, that we don't need a sorting society and that we should rather change the society so less women and men experience an unfortunately situation. It's many who lives happy lives without getting aborted.

Better healthcare and education system plus contraception is solutions that can reduce abortions. Abortions shouldn't be accepted and the society should rather focusing on helping the women (and men), so more people keeps their children and adoption should be more socially acceptable. We don't need people deciding who shouldn't be allowed to live. We don't need a sorting society. We needs protection of both human lives and a society focusing on bettering people's living standards, so less people gets an abortion.

Here are my thoughts. Yes it's a woman's right to choose as yes it is her body and it's her who has to do all the hard pregnancy work. Recently having a baby, I can tell you it's a lot of hard work before and after. But here's my thing. If you don't protect yourself and your just using abortion as a plan B, stop it! Use protection if you don't want a baby. It's reckless and responsible. However, when faced with BC failure, this is my personal opinion. Regardless of the women's body being the main place where a baby grows and develops, you can't get pregnant without a mans contribution. So, Men should equally get a decision too as they are equally responsible for creating that child. If a woman chooses to keep the baby and a man doesn't/isn't ready for a baby, she should take full responsibility for that choice and not make a man pay for the rest of his life for a choice that wasn't his. It's brutally unfair. So we hold a man responsible for supporting a child he didn't mean to create (if it's clearly an accident, Condom breaks etc.) yet the women calls all those shots on the baby's existence because she's the 50/50 straw draw winner in who carries the child. If a woman wants to abort and a man doesn't, then he gets bashed for making her go through the pregnancy and he's labelled as taking away her right to choose. Men really get screwed here. A woman can be shady and get pregnant on the sly, and the guy is totally screwed! He gets dragged through nasty court trails and FMEP interjections for a child he wasn't ready for and he knew it. I think that it should be that if a woman wants the child and a man doesn't, she takes sole Responsibility and the guy can choose to not be held accountable. After all, if protection failed and both were trying to prevent pregnancy, it's obviously something they didn't plan on happening. If both parties agree to have the baby, your equally responsible for that child for life. No ducking responsibilities or child support etc. If both of you were not using protection, then suck it up and deal with the consequences of your choices. No protection equals baby in most cases. BCP are free, condoms are available everywhere for grabs and available so there isn't an excuse for being that irresponsible anymore. I just think that men kind of get screwed. Women do all the hard work and pregnancy is tough. But if my spouse chose to not want a child then it would be my choice as to wether or not I could handle the consequences solo or not.

Exactly. Being pro-choice is not being pro-abortion. Allowing abortion to be legal does not mean you support women using an abortion to fix a mistake. It means that you support the choice being available to women who are unable to have a child safely, or who are unable to cope with a pregnancy/birth.
For example, if abortion was illegal, a woman who has fallen pregnant, but for some reason, the pregnancy is endangering her life, she might die, because abortion is not allowed.
Or, a woman has been raped. Her psyche is taking a huge hit because she is carrying an unwanted child that is a product of a violent sexual assault. She is not allowed to abort, so she has the child. She either puts it into the system, adding to an already overcrowded and broken foster system, or she keeps it, and the child grows up with a resentful mother, potentially ruining both the mother and child's life.

However... A man and woman have sex, and forget to use a condom. She is not on birth control, and doesn't take plan B. This is not an appropriate reason to abort, however, as we don't know everyone's mental/physical health, or their circumstances, it's not really fair to outright refuse the option of abortion.

Well put my take. I'm pro choice. Anyone who claims to be pro life but isn't also in favour of more foreign aid, taking in more refugees, paying a lot more taxes is at best a hypocrite.
If all life is precious they should be in favour of anything that will support those already in the world that are starving and suffering and dying. They should be happy to pay a lot more tax as if no abortions had ever happened then the global population would be around 25% higher with virtually all of those raised by the state and around half not of tax paying age yet. The strain on public infrastructure would be crippling.

Pro lifes want every baby to be born, but they don't care if that baby is going to be an orphan all their childhood, or if the baby is going to suffer malnutrition, or if the baby has no medical insurance and end sick and dies or if the baby is going to grow up feeling unwanted, develop depression and suicide. They want all babies but they are not going to take care of them. If they really cared that much they would offer themselves to take care of every unwanted kid of people who are going to abort.

However I'm no one to tell other people what to do, as I am under my circumstances not theirs. Obviously I'm also no one to force anyone to behave like I would.

You know, we not all see the life the same. There are people that have told me that they would never abort under any circumstances, and that if I'm raped I should have the baby of a raper. What if those people set the rules and after a traumatic rape they force me to have the baby against my will? Would be ok? Who has the most valid view to set the rules?
