So I figured I would talk about this because I am American and it's an interesting thing to talk about with people.

Trump has done a lot of good shit in my opinion. He has brought job rates up and actually taken the national debt down. He has done a lot for this country, and I didn't mind him. I didn't like how immature and just plain rude he was, but I could handle it due to the success he was having on other issues

This was until he pulled the shutting down the government stunt because people aren't helping him with his wall. I understand that it is probably embarrassing that he said Mexico was to build it, and now he is trying to make Americans build it because Mexico is like UMMM?? But I am newer in politics and being somewhat engaged

What is your input on all of this??

The tax-cut measures that Trump and the Republicans passed last year was done by increasing the federal deficit.

And about 6 months ago, the Republicans said that they needed to start garnishing social security and other "entitlement programs" because of a lack of funds. I think we can conclude that cutting taxes resulted in insufficient dollars to continue operations.

It's a shame that the media is so liberal and only trashes him. The only way to see his accomplishments is to read sites and papers that lean towards the conservative side. Even sites that claim that they are unbiased still never mention any of his accomplishments. Anyway, shutting down the government was a big mistake in my opinion. And opening it only makes him look worse because it's a victory for that evil witch, Pelosi.

To make the debt decrease, the deficit would have to be negative (the government taking in more money than it was spending), like it was for a few years before 2000. Not only has Trump not decreased the debt, he's increased the deficit (at a time when the economy is picking up, which is when you should be eliminating it), speeding up the increase in debt.

When he was told about it, his response was that it would be some other president's problem.

"The friction came to a head in early 2017 when senior officials offered Trump charts and graphics laying out the numbers and showing a “hockey stick” spike in the national debt in the not-too-distant future. In response, Trump noted that the data suggested the debt would reach a critical mass only after his possible second term in office.

So, why did you think he had taken the national debt down when the most recent president to have done that was Clinton, before you were born?

Here is the problem with the supporters for Trump. There just aren't many who cite actual facts. For example;

Er. . . the debt? The deficit is poised to be 1 trillion dollars. Yes, you read that right. So if the deficit is going to be a cool 1 tril. . . where in the world are you getting the information that he decreased the debt. The debt has been growing ever since Bush. And under Trump the debt will increase faster than at any other time in the history of this nation.

If you want to cite something "real", and I wonder why Trump supporters do not talk about it. . . cite Criminal Justice Reform.

in 2018 after the tax cuts took effect, the US government took in ALL TIME RECORD revenue, but yes there is a spending problem

That's not true. Federal government tax receipts throughout 2018 were down over 5% from a year previously.

@malegender Your mistake was not specifying which tax broke the record; individual income tax was the highest ever, not revenue as a whole, because corporation tax revenues plummeted leaving the overall revenue down from previous years.

You're right, nominal revenue November 2017-October 2018 was 0.53% higher than Nov 2016-Oct 2017. Presumably the difference to the graph I posted has to do with the adjustments for inflation (do you know how that works? I don't.)

Previous years showed increases of 1.56% (2016 to 2017), 0.94%, 7.2%, 8.8%, 12.9%, 6.5%, and 60% (year to 2011, coming out of recession).
