The final leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has died at age 91. He is credited with bringing reforms to the communist economy and opening it up to global markets, which ultimately led to the breakup of the USSR. He appeared in a 1998 Pizza Hut commercial that highlighted how brands from Cold War-foe America were setting up shop in Russia.

I think that history will remember his as one of the most influential and important world leaders of the 20th century. It's too bad that Russia allowed Putin to restart the process that Gorbachev ended.
