What is the difference in being a smart ass and being sarcastic?

The question says it all but, what do you consider being a smart ass and being sarcastic?

A smart ass is someone who annoys you by being right or competent as well as by being sarcastic.
For example; when i was 19 and out riding my motorcycle on a cool spring day I stopped by the home of my aunt. She was always good for a cup of coffee and some cake. When I got there I found the front storm door disassembled. It was an old house with custom woodwork and the door was custom made. She has taken the window out and was unable to fit the screen in. She said "I'm so glad you've come by, you're handy I've been trying to get this screen in all morning. I think it must have warped because of the damp in the basement. I have your grandpa's tools here maybe you could shave a bit off one side"
In the time it took her to say this i had realized because of the custom woodwork it would probably only fit one way out of eight even though to the naked eye it look perfectly square. I flipped it and rotated it to match up scratches in the paint and slip it in place smoothly as closing a bank vault. I turned to her beaming, expecting praise but she snatched up a broom and said, "You're not too big to get a whipping!" and chased me through the house.

To her mind I was being a smartass but I was in no wise sarcastic.

A person who makes others feel that he is dumb, but has everything planned for the future.

He/she is the person who is three steps ahead in any game.

Sarcastic:-
The person who thinks that he/she is smart and can use sarcasm to bring down people and show dominance.

They're synonymous concepts. Being called a smart ass is just a little more offensive than being called sarcastic.

sarcastic is dry humor, you usually get the joke, smart ass is more of an insult and is expressed in a more serious tone.

Being a smartass is unnecessarily correcting someone. Being sarcastic is saying something is one way but in a tone that indicates it's the opposite.

It is in the eye of the beholder. If people like you they will think you are sarcastic, if they don't they will think you are a smart ass
