To some degree. It depends on the specific issue in question. Some stuff seems valid enough of a cause to get riled up over. Issues that truly hold certain people or demographics back, etc, those are legit to get up in arms about, but most of those issues are institutional. Other things, yeah, I'd totally agree. I do get the feeling like some people love to be in the victim role, like they're more concerned with perpetuating and calling attention to their victim status than they are with getting out of that position. One thing I've learned in life: many, MANY people love to have a built in excuse. I can't really assign that to a specific issue or special-interest group across the board, I just think certain individuals are like that.
I really like that Emerson quote you posted. That pretty much sums the individuals in question, a lot of people can't handle contradiction. I bet if you and I sat down and talked politics or social issues, we'd disagree on many things. But another quote I heard recently, the origin of which I unfortunately don't know, was to the effect of: "A sign of intelligence is the ability to entertain an idea even while not agreeing with it." I think more people need to embrace that concept. I'm far from a conservative, but I get frustrated with my girlfriend's ultra-liberal views sometimes, not because I disagree, but because she just won't hear of anything except 100% agreement with her beliefs. And that belief is basically that every problem in life is the fault of straight white men, haha. Obviously, as a straight white man, that offends me. I realize that the face of a lot of injustice and social ills in the U. S. ARE in fact straight white men, but that doesn't mean you can paint is all with that brush. All I can do is my part as an individual. I DO understand the inherent privilege I have in society. But I couldn't reject it if I wanted to, your beef is with someone else, not me. I go through my day not being sexist, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc, and that is literally all I can contribute. I cross the street at night so I'm not behind a lone woman, as not to frighten them. I hire people to work for me at my job of all types of demographic backgrounds. I literally could not care less if someone is man or woman, gay or straight, black or white, whatever religion... none of it matters or is a factor. So I've done my part, and I resent being branded in a certain way because others in my demographic can be ignorant.
I actually agree to a point, a lot of people say things "trigger them" and "offend them" and they're actually just trying oh so hard to jam their heads into the sand, it's not even funny anymore.
It's because they have very firm beliefs, and they base their sense of identity on said beliefs, but those beliefs stand on dogma. Especially common with radical beliefs (have a glance at radical feminism) and religions.
Yes its fashionable these days and victim culture is definitely on the rise. Seems like when ever someone does something immoral they try to paint themselves as a victim. I can't help but think of Monica Lewinsky she sucked Bill off then went to the press with it and even keep a dress covered in Bill's man juice as proof, made a pretty decent living by giving the head of state a bj hookers and pornstar would be so envious.

Victim culture IS on the rise, but that doesn't mean everyone who' a victim is doing it to cover up immoral actions. The LGBTQ+ still gets harassed and beaten, sometimes killed, for who they love and who they are, and other races are being killed or thrown into jail and given longer sentances then whites.
