"No one will love you if you're unattractive"?

Question

So, I've been listening to Melanie Martinez lately. She is a girl who is from the Voice, and has built a career off of making songs that are like extended metaphors. 

One of her songs is basically about how materialistic society has come, and how people go to great lengths to change their appearance so that society will find them more attractive. 

One of of the lines is "No one will love you if you're unattractive" 

Is this true? Is it false? Does it have some truth to it and some falsity?

I would say it is TOTALLY true, if you want a shallow, uncaring person that you can be with for a year or two, and then break up, terribly, because they are just an A$$hole!!
REALITY: anything worth having takes time. if you want to be loved, you have to love, and be a good person, and be patient. So many are swept away with BS songs, and social stigmas, and believe all that sht!! That is why the divorce rate is so high!!
Take your time and get to know someone. Don't just have sex on the first, second, or third date!! Wait, and get to know if you really like each other.
Wait for a time when the other is REALLY stressed or upset, and see how you relate!!
When I am with a new girlfriend, and I think I like her, and it sounds terrible, but I want to see her at her worst, on her worst day, and how she is, then!! If I can still see the person I care about, and care, and want to take away her pain, or just hold her hair when she is throwing up, and at her very worst, I think, then, I can really be with this person.
Not like I am going to try to make that terrible day happen, just saying, that is like the ULTIMATE test, for me, to get to that point, knowing. . .

but unattractive in personality is different. if you are truly a person with an unattractive person i think it is quit possible that no one will love you

That's not true. Firstly, beauty is subjective. One person could find you attractive; another might not. Therefore, you can't measure your attractiveness accurately. Secondly, plenty of people can love you despite your looks - friends, family etc. The only type of love where attractive is really healthy and crucial is in a romantic relationship and even then I go back to point 1 where beauty is defined differently by people. Lastly it depends on what someone's criteria is for love. I don't see looks as a criteria to love someone. I love someone based off their personality and how they treat me.

It's true and false. We can't deny that we can't be attracted to someone who is physically unattractive just by looking at the person. When you don't know a person, it's only normal not to be attracted to him/her if he/she is not physically attractive. False because once we get to know the person though, our view for that person changes. If he/she has a good behaviour, then you might find that attractive and fall for him/her. If not, then you won't.

I believe that admiring a person just because of his/her looks is for crushes only. Love looks beyond the physical appearance of a person.

It's definitely fair to say that we are all easier to sell when we're attractive. Once you get in people's doors though, it's all about how you perform. But initial attraction has nothing to do with love. We all have the capacity to love anyone no matter how great or bad you look. Just go to Walmart to prove my theory. We are all attracted to beauty and beauty itself is quite subjective. But love is an amoeba.

i love this song. i have her whole album actually. Anyways, society puts a lot of harsh beauty standards on people. So most people feel that they have to look attractive to get anywhere. It's all about appearances remember? however, there are instances where this is not completely true. still, it's a pain in the @ss.

I put true but I think it's semantics. For a start, I was assuming a romantic kind of love, not a family or deep friend kind of love. Why would anyone go out with or, furthermore, marry someone who they find unattractive?

That said, "attractive" to mean isn't all appearance. There have been girls I've known who initially struck me as being quite plain. After I got to know them, they started to become more attractive to me, but at that point even their looks started to become more appealing to me. I was noticing things about their appearance that I didn't before which, when combined with other characteristics I liked about them (having a mutual interest, a passion, a struggle, etc) started to make them attractive to me.

Oh, and last but not least, I think silicon is bullshit. I dated a girl once who had silicon implants. She looked nice in a dress, but in the bedroom (the most important time for me to find her physically attractive), those boobs felt all weird and unnatural in an off-putting way. People who keep wanting to change their appearance unnaturally are probably doing more harm than good most of the time. Healthy women who stay neat and trim tend to be quite attractive even if they're completely lacking in augmentations.

Well it's important that you and your partner share physical attraction but I mean that's only half the deal. You need to be compatible personality wise and overall that is more important, but physically attraction is important as well. I mean you don't have to be seen as universally pretty or anything but your partner needs to at least be attracted to you in that manner and you to him.

And beauty overall from one person to the other is more or less subjective I suppose you could say the need to be with someone you see a find attractive can be traced back thousands and thousands of years, beauty and good structure was usually the sign of good genetics and to breed the best and bring the best warriors, or hunters or whatever into a tribe or were ever you had to be with the best, someone though would give you superior offspring. And certain body types to us back them resembled certain things such as wider hips was often seen as a sign of fertility and being able to more easily bare children but now we just see them as attractive because they give us the hour glass figure.

So it's not so much that society is more beauty focused or more materialistic in that way, it's just that our perception of the same stuff we've always seen is different, same stuff just resembles different things now a days then it used to. You could say though that we're a lot more obsessed with sex then we used to be and more attracted to beauty to use for that purpose, that would be a fair thing to say.

What you can say is that no one will love you if you don't meet someone who first finds you attractive. (Because we need to be attracted to someone to fall in love).

Some people see supposedly ugly people as attractive because they see the beauty inside them and that much outweighs whats on the outside. Its all about giving people a chance really, if you dont get to know the real them how can you possibly see how attractive they really are?

Given my experience, it's mostly true. I am not attractive at all and so far I've never had a guy interested in me. Well, I can't say that for sure, if they have been interested, they've never told me. However, I have never been asked out and any guy I've been interested in has rejected me.

Not always, partially true. like the saying goes, "WHATS ONE MANS TRASH, IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE." you might be ugly to someone but AMAZINGLY beautiful to another. Unattractive as in average or ugly? Either way , it's false bc beauty is subjective and second of all looks can only get you so far. They aren't everything. Yes , they're quite important but really personality and who they are as a person is what actually counts at the end of the day. Unattractive means not attractive to SOME people but not everyone. It's just like art, one person thinks the artwork is AWSOME and the other thinks it's a piece of shit and looks horrible. everybody has their own taste/type but just cause u are seen as "ugly" doesn't mean it's true for everyone.
