Did you let people copy off of your work in school?

You would think at one of the top schools where everyone in their own right is accomplished and consistently does well on their own with tests and homework, that they wouldn't copy others work, but you'd be very wrong. Our class load was so intense being one of the top college prep schools in the country, that most felt like they just didn't have the time to get it all done, so it was a, I'll scratch your back, and you scratch mine situation--and don't be that person to buck the system b/c you'll get burned. Everybody had their circle, and the circle helped each other out or traded back and fourth with another circle.
I get that this could be bad because it pulls into question whether you're really learning the material, except, like I said, most at the school were already exceptional students, and since it was basically impossible to cheat on tests the way our testing rooms were set up and the tests were scrambled, people still did really well on their own. It was more like the tedium of homework added on top of the already hours of advanced classwork we did, was more of a waste of time, than a help. A lot of schools and educators now are really starting to question the validity of giving students hours and hours of homework.
I never let people copy my work. This one girl in my class told me that she was going to copy my work and that's how it was going to be. And I told her basically that I was not going to let her do that. I was still in public school at the time so we were quite young. She was a real brat. She still is apparently (not really a big surprise).
Anyway, why should you work hard and let someone else coast on your hard work? That is not fair to you, who is helping you out?
I would refuse to let anyone copy off my work. Too much of a risk too. Because a lot of people will copy your stuff word for word and then say they didn't know what happened. Really stupid. So no, don't let someone copy you.
I don't let people copy my work.
I did it once in elementary school because she was my friend... alas, she was also dumb as fuck because she copied word for word *8 year old me thought this too*
So, we got in trouble, and I got a :C on my daily report (which I had to get signed) So, I legit lied to my mom about this (which was a big deal bc lying to my mom was a 50/50 life or death risk. Lol, I'm rambling, anyways, she didn't find out I was lying, and I never let my friend copy from me again.
Besides that, I really can't remember letting people copy off my work. I definitely wouldn't let that happen in college-who wants to be expelled? o. O
Do you mean copying word per word without my knowledge? No way!
However, I allow people to copy my works only when they agree to recognize me and acknowledge me as the source (which is often disagreed upon hahahaha) if that's what you mean by copying.
I also allow other people to read my works and get ideas about how a work is to be done. After reading, I ensure that the readers neither copy my words nor my style. If they do (which is all the time), I encourage them to paraphrase.
Thank God that I have graduated from high school. Back when I was in high school, I only let certain people copy. Though I have many friends from various cliques, I only helped those that genuinely needed help, instead of helping the lazy ones. I wanted to be there for those that have helped me before. So I repay them by allowing them to copy my work to help them catch up but at the same time, I taught them how to answer a question that they do not understand. In English, history, sociology, psychology, US government, world cultures, and statistics classes, my friends came to me either to help understand certain subjects by my own explanation or to catch up with class work.
I was never an honours student even though I had the opportunity to join the honours kids. I was just always being independent and following my own ideals. I was just the most intelligent popular guy who enjoyed having fun, having a lot of friends, and getting wasted. I mean intelligent as in academically, street smarts, and being open-minded and very knowledgable to various subjects such as religion, philosophy, alcohol, history, music, culture, science, etc.
I always did because I failed a lot and wanted to share the love lol s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/.../...e98fdce560.jpg
hahahaha,,.. awesome!
That's funny

I did on occasion. If I were how I am now back then, I would have told them to shove on and learn the material.
Thank you young lady (:
I was never on top of the class ever for various reasons. Even I knew answers to the whole paper I'd write only enough for me to scrape through.
I'd however wind up answering questions that are asked off the cuff on an one off beyond the syllabus.
No one really tried copying from me unless they were so desperate that they'd copy off a blank paper. As long as they could peer through & catch a glimpse of what's written I was okay but I never passed out my paper & risk a black list on my record. I preferred being known as dumb than a cheat.
Honestly? Nothing to feel about it, I had my priorities set clear & right
Thank you for liking my opinion young lady :)
I used to let anyone copy my work but I stopped doing that after I realized that people take your help for granted and rarely appreciate your help. S from now on, I carefully choose who I copy my work.
Like for example, we had a lengthy and tedious code to write in our coding/programming classes and this girl wrote it and saved it on computer. But it got deleted somehow and we had to show completed program to instructor. I let her take mine because I knew she worked hard for it and it was gone because of a technical glitch.
Thanks for A2A!
Yes, always. I let anyone everyone copy my homework. I was (and still am) a nice guy who helps people. I barely say "no". And I copied from others too (on occasions). "If you want help, learn to help others too". The whole class worked as a group. We students were thugs, the teachers were the police lol.
How I see this topic? Well I see nothing wrong with it. But quite honestly, I believe that we should learn to do our work ourselves. That's how we learn. Discipline, dedication and determination are the key values in student lives. But most of the times, the homework makes no sense (it doesn't teach us anything useful that will help us in life) so, you're not losing much by not doing it yourself. Never copy Maths, grammar and Science numerical questions. Other than that, do that Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V immediately 8)
At my first high school, I sold homework to others. $10 per assignment per grade above a C. Most "customers: can't afford to get As all the time, so it was easy money for 10 minutes of writing.
Then I went to a high school for the super smart. Everybody had a copy of the answers they were willing to share, but these answers will barely get you a B+. Everyone's so damn competitive there, that they all end up working twice as hard fixing all the problems to the "shared" answers anyway.
During undergrad, I was trying to study full time whilst holding down a full time job on the side. There wasn't anything that wasn't done last minute, and I copied off others quite a lot.
For postgrad... well, the course was damn expensive, so it defeats the purpose to not do your own work.
Damn you're a ripoff... $10 for a b? I can't blame you, though if suckers fell for that shit
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau This was back in the 90s too, so yeah, it was expensive.
But hey, I was reliable, and they had no other options if they didn't want to fail.
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau oh... and no... it's $10 for a C, then an additional $10 per grade above that.
So a B would have been $20.
Nah, I'm fine with you doin it and like your hustle, but there was no one else who did it cheaper? I just did it for free... Or had them do that for me in another subject or some shit. Or like my calc class did. We had all the home works collected before the test, so we all went to 1 friend's house and we each did 1 homework and the photocopied all of them 😂😂😂. Needless to say the teacher kinda found out 😂
Jesus, dude. That's ridiculous. I might've given you 5 for an A. I could get a B in my sleep and you would've owed me money for a C 😑
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau Hahaha... I guess I knew my market.
I did for awhile until one day I got tired of him copying me. I put wrong answers down on purpose when he wasn't looking changed them back to the right answer. The entire test. Then when grades were called he got a zero. Teacher said the only thing he got right was his name. We stopped being friends I think after that and he seem to hold a grudge. My thoughts you need to learn this stuff man, won't learn copying.
That's hilarious. I should do that haha
Yes I did. I couldn't say no. It did annoy me sometimes with certain persons who NEVER did their work when I would've stayed up all night doing it while they were having a good night sleep. I'd occasionally try to escape having to give them my homework.
Yeah generally I do. I'm too nice to say no. People send me their work to edit, particularly essays and things that involve writing, which I don't mind doing actually. I've also helped my entire maths class once, by photocopying my formula sheet for a test (none of us were told we needed to make one, and I was the only one who did one just in case).
But with people copying work, I figure that in the long run, if they copy me, it won't actually do them any benefit, and they're likely to get their karma.
During tests... hell no to the no. As if its some homework and they didn't do it for some reason then I would help them out with it. But if that happens often then I'll just tell them that they need to do their homework instead of always copying coz they gotta depend on themselves
Yes, but only homework. If a friend of mine who I know is a good student but was just to busy (or forgot) wants to see my homework I give it to them. If I know they are just lazy fucks then I don't. Usually you can tell just by how they interact w/you. If they are asking questions about how you got to those conclusions then you know they're actually trying to learn.
HAHA Only if their severely retarded!
I had this one class where this kid would copy off us and the kid in front of him wrote the letters juge and held the page so he could see (it was multiple choice) I mean he was writing these letters HUGE and even still the kid is leaning over asking for answers or asking me. I couldn't stop laughing at him!
I honestly don't understand if you don't. I get that you don't want to each and every time, but once in a while is fine. You'll help the ther person avoid getting in trouble and maybe make a new friend.
That's the only reason why some people talk to me. Then after they get my answers they never talk to me again.
Nope, never let people copy my notes or my work. If you're not willing to at least make an effort on your own, then there's really no point in being in class. Especially if it's university or college - you pay thousands of dollars a year to be there, yet you can't be bothered to take your own notes or do your own work? Bye.
I used to. Especially homework. I usually asked friends for the answers. Once during our GCSE history exam they left us alone in the room and we all asked each other the answers cause nobody knew any, we'd been taught the wrong thing all year and the exam wasn't what we'd been taught! But yeah I always cheated, I'd help others, they'd help me.
We had so many screw ups in my 9th grade biology class the only thing we did all day was worksheets. You just needed to read the pages and put in the answers. The retards in the class would pay me 25 cents each to copy. This was in 1982 when a pack of Hubba Bubba was only 25 cents. so I made out well.
No, I never let people do that. And not just because it's a violation of the Honor Code in college/university that will get you kicked out of school. It's cheating, plain and simple. And the person allowing that to happen is just as guilty as the person leaching off the person who actually did the work and learned something.
only a few people.. like close friends.. that too If I have already finished my exam.. otherwise my own grades are wayyyy more important and I don't waste my time helping those who don't study themselves and then expect me to waste my time instead of doing my own work
I'd frequently have pretty girls try to get me to let them copy or do their homework for them. I'd agree, then write the wrong answers. The look when they'd get tests and homework back was priceless... this was in college
Hahaha
That's hilarious
All my friends are really hardworking so I know that if they ever ask me to copy my work it's because they were either too busy studying for other subjects, or they didn't understand it. In those cases I would explain the work to make sure they don't fall behind and let them copy. However, I only let people I know very well copy my work and only if they have a good reason why it isn't done.
Yes. I'm pretty much one of the smartest people in my whole school and pretty much everyone in my school knows. At first I wouldn't let people copy off of me, but I would help them, but eventually I got tired of constantly helping a dozen people do the same assignment over and over again. So I'd just do my work and just let people pass it around. I don't even care anymore. A lot of people that I don't even talk to copy off of my work and I don't even care anymore.
Hahahaha, we do this all the time, during the break time before math class we all sit next together and copy off of each other, i even copy off of those who i don't know but i let them copy off of me in return, that's how we make friends.
we even made a whatsapp group so we can help each other even at home.
I actually wrote some people's homework for free just for fun so yes
I would make them pay a small fee.
Sometimes they paid me in chocolate :3
I would totally take chocolate. :3
"C" for Certain Ones, Hun... Only Bestie friends.
I also helped Share my Poetry works in English Class one day, when They really Needed it. I was the Best from the Rest.
Good luck and Great question, Thanks for Sharing. xx
Certain people, like my friends who help me in other classes. I'm the English, history and science person. I need help with math.
Same! Math is my worst subject lol
Yes :)
Yeah I don't give a shit, I don't mind helping someone out it's not like it affects me I have no ego and don't care if people do better than me even if I helped them.
I never really had an issue with letting people copy off of me. There was one friend though who would copy off me but always get just one mark higher and that pissed me off :P
No but I caught a chick trying to copy off of me once and I was like
https://cdn.meme.am/instances/400x/61410216.jpg
Yes , many times:p
Once in economics I gave my frenemy my work, it was exactly the same except for the colors of my table and she got a slightly better grade than I did 😂
In middle school and high school, my classmates would always copy off each other. Not for like tests or quizzes, just homework assignments and of that sort. I honestly never really minded it haha I would copy off of them too! Now in college, not a chance of that happening. Maybe in group work, but even then people are more mature and do their own homework lol
I never let my classmates copy off my work.
I studied with a work-scholarship, I didn't pay anything but I had to work for the university. I was assigned to the research institute/department, and both my teachers and classmates knew it.
No because it isn't helping them learn if they just copy. How will that help them on a test?
It actually hurts them more in the long run.
And if they aren't a friend, I wouldn't want to do anything for them anyways.
Hell na! I worked damned hard on that homework. If they wanted it, they should have done it themselves.
No I helped other people rather than allowed them to copy of me. You are not doing them any favours if they just copy of you, is it not better if they understand the work?
No, because I'm not in school any more, but if I were, I still wouldn't let them, because some of them might try to usurp my work, and claim that I copied their work.
Allowed certainly not, but if it hasn't happened... I'm quite certain it has. Some of these guys were really good at it 8)
On test yeah sometimes. Homework never because I just didn't do homework so I copied other peoples homework but helped people cheat on test
Always have a helpful attitude. Share your work with others. Let other people learn by looking at your good work. When you copy something you also learn something. Let them copy.
I let people do it a few times. Only like, five times in my whole life. But I do help people on homework :P
Our school makes use use privacy folders now so its harder to do that. If someone is trying to cheat off me I'd try to black them off with my body and stuff but if they're persistent I'll just be like fuck it and ignore them.
I didn't really LET people. They just did it. If I was done before they were too bad for them.
I would cover my work lol
I let them copy a few answers if they didn't finish but not all the homework. I only do it for friends too.
I usually was the one copying, because I was too lazy to do homeworks. But yes, in exams and such I did.
Me too! But still aced everything
@SmandyCandy
Acing might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but with about 50% of actual school days (aka not counting weekends and holidays) missing I managed to be above average, so I did well enough for the circumstances :D
I did no homework, wouldn't participate in class discussions (literally would play dumb because I hate speaking in front of people), or do in class work lol. Some teachers took points off bothers understood and knew I didn't cheat on tests so they let me get away with it
@SmandyCandy
Haha, yeah. Thats a bit of the girl advantage. Teachers mostly hated me :D
Yes, me and bunch guys in 12 grade looked off this girls answers
i always made good grades in that class called POD class ( Problems
Of Democracy ) ❤️ 💞 😝 😘
In Highschool meh whateves, sure
But in higher education not really
Tests? No.
Homework? Yes (depends).
Right now, as an AP student, there really isn't much to copy. It's just notes, so if someone missed a day then I'll lend them my notes.
No and no. I don't want anyone getting credit for my work. Also, I really just can't stand cheating. You are not only cheating for yourself, but your doing a disservice to the whole class.
If someone didn't understand a few of the questions I'd explain it to them. I didn't hand out my paper for them to copy it verbatim...
Haha yeah I did back in HS, not so much in college though
I used to let certain people copy my work if they needed help.
Yup. I was the smart one. And sometimes got paid for it lol
On the most part, yes I did. Pretty much always. Seemed like the right thing to do.
Not really "copy" no, but I do share and trade notes, etc.
I would help them understand the material but never copy as far as I remember.
Yeah I do let people copy me and I like to help them too.
Yeah... haha. I was too nice to say "no" most of the time. Oh well.
I only let some people, sometimes, but really... I never should've...
Yep, no shame over here lol!
Unless it was a paper then no, too easy to recognize plagiarism :P
Nope and if they tried most likely they would be screwed over. XD
Why should they get the benefit of your hard work? And, in the end they'll need to know it so you're not doing them a favor.
However, if you're in the same class and work with them everyone benefits.
Yeah, I let people copy me, lol.
I don't know.. it's kinda like a group thing.
