+1 yIt depends on what perspective you take the word "wise" at.
If you take it from a decision making standpoint, I think I make nearly the best possible decisions I could make *some of the time*. It's not like I always make great decisions though. I think I make more right decisions than completely wrong decisions as well so, on the whole, I suppose I believe I'm more wise than unwise. I don''t think I'm incredibly wise though.
If you approach it from a perspective of acquired knowledge, I likewise have plenty of things I don't know. I would say I learn things everyday. Heck-- it would be awfully being incredibly wise in that regard. It'd be boring. I'd have more and more trouble finding things I could learn or find interest in.
If you take it a step further, it's impossible for me to say just how unwise I am because of the sheer amount of things I don't know exist. To determine my "unwise-ness" I'd have to know the total amount of things in world to know. Not only can that not be very quantitative, but it leads to a circular problem lol. I can only guess-timate and assume I have much to learn.
From a third perspective though, you could base wiseness off a comparative view. (I. e. the people who have the most knowledge in the world are wise, and the people with the least are unwise). Although there are still issues in me not knowing every potential person in the world, I feel like I am at least above the average in regards to knowledge. Perhaps that is self bias though, which leads to more complications.
In any case, I could be very well just be talking out of my ass since I'm running on little sleep and I just wrote a philosophy paper. 😂
Overall, I wouldn't call myself wise, but rather a person with a bit of wisdom. I think that is more a moderate claim to make and more accurate for me00 Reply

u +1 yYou are right that there is a vast universe that is completely not understood by us. But when I call myself OlderAndWiser, what I mean is that I am much wiser now than I was 30-40 years ago, and I think I have some wisdom to impart to anyone who will listen. So, saying that I am OlderAndWiser doesn't mean that I think I know everything, but just that I sure understand some things better now than I did at age 16!

Asker+1 yDo you think anyone in their 20s can be wise?
- +1 y
Yes, absolutely, and I am impressed with some of the advice that I see form some young people from time to time.

I agree with you. I think that compliment is valid if and only if it comes from others' praise.
The great minds the world considers to be wise did not resort to self-proclamation when they were living. People generously gave compliments the moment they encounter the great minds' profound thoughts and those are neither coerced nor halfhearted.00 Reply

+1 yWell I would like to think so but I suppose that depends on your idea of what wisdom is. I think it requires self reflection, self honesty, and the acknowledgement that we are frequently wrong and the ability to change our mind with new information. The ability to acknowledge our own ignorance is key, a wise person is the perpetual student, always observing always learning and always trying to understand both the world around them but also (and perhaps more importantly) himself. So I like to think that I do this though you can always do more and do it better.
00 Reply 1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Calling oneself wise, is.. unwise. 😅
With knowing comes the realization, that we don't actually know. To know and to understand are two separate things.. And before understanding, one must first accept.. And before accepting, one must realize.
Intelligence is knowing. Wisdom is knowing that you don't. ☺️20 Reply
+1 yNo, I don't consider myself as a wise person. I AM a wise person, full stop. At least compared to the average. I'm very wise, sorry for the total lack of modesty, but I don't feel ashamed to share this nowadays.
I'm also aware I make mistakes, and that my wisdom is limited. And I admire people who are wise and love to absorb their knowledge as much as I can.05 Reply
Asker+1 yAwesome! Any tips on how to achieve wisdom?
- +1 y
Travel plus empathy plus curiosity. Being humble about your limitations and always trying to improve yourself.
Also a good IQ will help.
Asker+1 yDo you read much?
- +1 y
Too much. But not always books. I also get a lot of information out of the Internet, and can spend hours googling about almost anything that triggers my curiosity. I have a filter on crap information you can encounter on the Internet though, and that filter is constructed upon being fed by reliable sources and experience itself.
I must say that I consider doing critical analysis on your inputs, or sources of information is a must. That can be expected when browsing the Internet, but most people take the information they get from books for granted. I'm always open and willing to doubt any input I recieve, unless it is of an empirical nature. And to do so, it is important to compare anything you are fed with: the more samples you get about an issue, the more it becomes a fact and therefore I will embrace it as part of my general knowledge.
Also, even reading a lot, and having a critical thinking, might not be enough for becoming a wise person. I continue on the next post. - +1 y
You have to realize that no matter how much you read, no matter how much information you recieve from diverse sources, and no matter how much critical you are on your thinking, you will always be biased.
We all are limited by the variables we possess on our capacity to be analytical. We could reach some conculsions on things, or have cognitive perceptions that could not adjust to truth due to the reality we live upon. We are limited beings, live in a limited environment, and afterall, have limited information to really make reliable conclusions on mostly anything.

+1 yI know, here is one ^ asking questions with Anonymous hat on. But please amuse me with the irony, because that 95% is clearly straight from your ass without any legit source to back that data up. So I applaud you, you shown a great example of irony, talking about int. modesty yet showcasing lack of wisdom with a statistic right from the ass.

Asker+1 yWow, looks like a struck a chord. What percentage of people do you think would consider themselves to be wise? According to the poll, it's about 80%. And do you consider yourself to be wise? That was the question, after all.
- +1 y
A cord... LOL, neh still chill and sarcastic as fuck, got that wrong bud. I never said I'm wise. I know the shit I know 100% and there is shit I don't know 100%, I will only state the shit I know, vs. being the know it all type, claiming polls from his ass.
Source? Source? Where is the source? This isn't how it works, unless you have relatively similar data from few different academic/trusted sources your % is right from your asshole. So please amuse me more.
Relatively speaking from when I was younger, more so, but hard to put on an absolute scale. Also what I consider most to be "wisdom" was not gained from knowing more.
It came mostly from making mistakes and learning from what I did wrong. It's like don't go skydiving without a parachute. If you miraculously survive, you'll figure out that it's a pretty bad idea.00 Reply

Yeah everybody thinks they are correct. Why would someone want to be wrong? But still, our opinions can be (and usually are) very different from each other. So no matter how correct/smart/wise we feel we are , everybody feels the same way even though peoples' opinions differ no matter what the subject is.

+1 ywisdom and knowledge are two different things. it's like the old quote "knowledge is knowing tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad". wisdom definitely has somewhat of a correlation with age; but that's one a generalisation.
