Most people think if you're not black you can't say the N word. But why is it such a big deal? It's just a f*cking word! Anyone with a tounge can say it. When I see people saying stuff like:"oh but I'm not black, can I say the N word" "OMG HE SAID THE N WORD!!!" it's just a fucking word. It's redicilous that you're afraid of saying a damn word. I defenatley don't hate blacks toug
The racial slur was watered down and used by black people to subconsciously develop a sense of unity while turning an inherently evil thing into something else more digestible. The good and bad of “the n word” belongs to the black community as a band aid and reflection. Being that racism and prejudice is still alive and well, I don’t see blacks dropping it anytime soon. That is why some black people are very defensive when non blacks (mostly whites) use say it because you’re not one of them, you don’t share the same/similar culture, and they still see white people as a threat in some ways. And when it comes to half black people... the lines get even more blurred because some of the black community accepts them and some don’t.
When I was younger, It did bother me when I would hear white people use it in their vocabulary without thinking twice. So as a petty experiment, I decided to use the words like cracker and pink pig loosely around adult and teenage white people. The responses I got were very nasty 😂
So if the shoe was on the other foot, I don’t think anyone would care for other people outside of their own race using certain language like racial slurs even if it’s been watered down. Because what it means to you and your community will not always apply to everyone else.
I don’t care anymore because I’m a grown ass woman with greater priorities, but I hope this gives you some kind of insight since this gets under your skin so much.
Because it's usually said in a derogatory manner that cuts people down. And it is almost always used directly at black people or in reference to them in a shameful manner. It's just plain disrespectful. If a man called me a B word I'd find that just as disrespectful unless that word ended in -eautiful.

@PrinceOfAljazeera just because you say jk, doesn't make it Ok. Just kidding doesn't cover up and excuse harsh words just like they never happened. Even when we joke we have to be self aware and how it impacts others, its etiquette and consideration.
I guess we don't understand why it hurts them so much. I guess they feel it's dehumanizing. But this is mainly only an issue in the US, Canada, NZ, Auatralia and UK. In Europe, that's actually the normal word they call black people.
Interestingly, it's also the only slur on Gag that gets censored.
But I like Chris Rock's answer best, "There are black people, and there's NlGGERS and White people don't know the difference. Black people are the normal civilized ones, NlGGERS are the thugs who riot in the street, shoot off guns in movie theaters, sell drugs and rob people.
Chris Rock is actually right about this. Not every black person is a NlGGER.
Apparently this joke did not go over very well in Oakland. Even Oprah Winfrey, who would like to see that word banned, agrees with him on this and knows the kind of people he's talking about.
1) I don’t think you understand what the N-Word means and why it’s a problem. I hope you know Chris Rock is a comedian and not everything he says is true.
2) Literally even Europeans know not to say because at least they’re not ignorant and it’s not a normal word they use for black people.
Still it doesn’t make it okay, also because Eastern Europe don’t have the same like ‘knowledge’. when I lived in Belgium, especially there, not once have I heard anyone say the N-Word; even in other Western European countries or Scandinavian countries.
I think you may need to read up on history, watch a few historical movies, and then you will have a clear answer to yo question.. Words are never just words.. They are powerful, and can affect people in a way that even physical actions can hurt less..
I have no experience with mixed races. But since you invited me I'm gonna try to answer that. The way I see it the word "nigger" is considered a derogatory term. Black people might use the slang "nigga" to address each other, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to adopt it. How would you feel if you were in a group of friends and someone outside the group came and addressed you with your nickname?

You're 14 so I'll let this go. Do in-depth research in slavery, Jim Crow era, and the connotations attached to this word. The reason black people say nigga is because they are taking back the word when it was used viciously against their against their ancestors.

You have no idea how deep the history of that word goes. Again, I suggest you look the history of how deeply black people were hated, slavery, Jim Crow Era, and the negative connotations attached to that word People aren't making it bigger than it is.

Some words bother people. This is one of them. It’s usually based on history and we all wished it never happened but it did and people are still affected. That’s why.
Negro comes from Spanish, and it means black. I think it's an ok word, if you don't use it to insult anyone. I use only black word, to avoid controversy. 😊

I'm black and I don't even like saying or hearing the N word, I don't care what race you are! It's offensive, and while some black people say it to each other, jokingly or not, it is insulting and not everyone likes or wants to hear it.
Yes there some words that evoke a nasty reaction , The N , word is one , it is insulting to the maximum degree , it relates to slavery and the way they were treated.
Most people are half cast now anyway so really no body should be saying it because they are either too white to say it or saying it to someone too white for it to apply.
Yeah but even if I did, it's still... a word. Saying that I can't say it won't Make sense. If I can type it I can say it... i don't really use it or want to use it but my friend does all the time
