Were women and men healthier and better looking in the past? I would say both yes and no. In societies where there were little poverty, people ate a lot of vegetables, had access to good healthcare, hygiene and there were peace I would say it was true. People weren't overweight and had fitter bodies.

In societies with poorer economy, technology, hard labor, a lot of diseases and wars people didn't look good. People often missed teeth, were underweight, wrinkled and shorter. They didn't know tobacco and alcohol were dangerous either making their skin even worse in addition to hard labor in the sun. I would say in some societies in the medieval area people most likely looked and smelled really bad, but that the rich people in ancient Rome and Greece looked fit and decent. In the Victorian areas and the 1900s I would say it depended a lot on the person's wealth.

I would say people in the 1980s definitively looked way better than people today if we looks away from fashion. There were less overweight and fat people at that time. Nowadays people may be less wrinkled thanks to botox and having better teeth because of improved dentists, but the junk food and TV-culture makes people bigger and bigger. Being fat may be more noticeable than a wrinkle from a long distance.

Women, and men, in the past, were probably more physically fit. If the general population was healthier is a more difficult question to answer. Modern medicine has taken care of a lot of diseases that once were terrible scourges. At the same time, obesity is a major medical problem.

Also, there is a world of difference between the modern attitudes of the US govt and people compared to what was going on hundreds of years ago, whereas people alive today still remember WW2. The historical crimes of the US govt against native Americans is recognized, not even most actual living native Americans today consider the US flag to be a symbol of oppression anymore, and many of them have served in the US military.
