Are women more hygienic (overall) than men?

Question

I know there are exceptions such as my boyfriend. He knows more about household chores and is more hygienic than the average woman but generally are we naturally more into leavings things clean and spotless than men?

This is what I've observed in my household growing up. If it were for my father, the floors would already be dirty with some dust and he doesn't always wash the cups nor plates (not even when someone just drank coffee or milk) with the dish soap.. only briefly rinses it with water. Recently, my father and brother finished eating red spaghetti and he only rinsed the plates with water and scrub it with a wet cloth but didn't wash it with soap.

With the exception of washing the clothes, if it were for him the house would be cleaned up maybe once a month or every 2 months. There were also a couple times he didn't even wash his hands after peeing.

Yes, there are differences between male and female attitudes towards hygiene and cleanliness, but do those differences result in less hygienic conditions in male households? Rarely. Many women are OCD on these matters and men not being OCD is a good thing.

I think so just because that's how it is with my husband and I. I wash my face and I also brush and floss every day, 2x a day but my husband doesn't do that. He also wouldn't shower for days except it is required for his job... to smell and look good.

he also doesn't care much about changing the toilet paper roll when it's empty. I think it has more to do with the fact that he thinks he is lazy and it doesn't make him happy to do it, so he will hope that someone else is bothered enough to do it. He is more focused on just being happy with playing video games all day. Everything else just pisses him off, it has nothing to do with the fact that he doesn't like things being clean or nice. It has all to do with the fact that he values his free "be happy, play video games" more.

I'm female.

I went roughly 2 years without washing my bedsheets, and only washed them last month because my cat died on the bed (of very old age - she was 19). I couldn't sleep on a bed uncleaned after a cat died on top of it lol

To make it worse, I usually sleep in my everyday clothes, so that means the everyday germs I pick up everywhere, were on my bed.

And if I have nowhere to go, which is often, I could go a week without showering. Even more germs on my bed

Given my own anecdote, I wonder if women report being more hygienic simply because they're more judged for it. I mean, you don't see me going off anonymous talking about my filthy habits lol

this is a nature vs nurture question. If you were raised to be cleanly than you will be. If your parents treated there sons and daughters differently and encouraged different chores, then you'll only consider those chores a priority. If your parents did all of the chores for you, you'll probably be a slob. And if your parents were filthy, the child will either be the same or ridiculously clean.

To tell you the truth, most girls I 've met are really gross. You know that thing girls do that ask other girls to go to the bathroom with them and stay outside the stall? Well, at school a lot of girls would ask me to go with them, and I can tell you,95% didn't wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

A lot of this has to do with personality trait type - MBTI. Have you studied that? Typed yourself?

The last personality trait type - J vs P - is judging and perceiving. J's are organized, planned, and structured. P's are spontaneous, unstructured, and organization is optional. J's are called rigid, nit-picky, and OCD. P's are called sloppy and messy, even irresponsible.

My "P" wife has a pair of shoes in every room of the house. :)

My boyfriend and my dad are both obsessive about about tidiness and no clutter, but both of them can be absolutely clueless about sanitary and hygienic.

That spoon is on the floor! It needs to be picked up!

Oh that spoon was on the floor? Meh just wipe it off (as in no soap just a dry cloth), it's fine!

I am very mindful of sanitation and hygiene, but clutter doesn't bother me in the least.

No. My mother is a total slob and my father is one of the cleanest people I know. One of my best friends for a long time, Jade was really messy with everything while another good friend of mine, Nathan is very tidy. It's not gender specific, it's how the person is themselves

Even though my boyfriend is way way cleaner than me, and even though there are too many slack bitches who don't wash their hands after peeing on campus, I gotta say, I think overall, women are more hygienic. I dunno, the movies make guys seem so gross. And my other boyfriends were way more nasty than me.

Some guys can be dirtier. But I do think it's because of the stereotype. Men "have to be dirty" to be "manly".  Also, the amount of body hair guys have makes them smellier.
