While incels who hold this belief often disagree about precisely when this golden age occurred, they concur that it was gradually destroyed by feminism, the sexual revolution, women's liberation, and technological progress. Antisemitic beliefs are also regularly found on incel forums, with some posters going so far as to blame the rise of feminism on a plot masterminded by Jews to weaken the Western world.

Young men are giving up sex to play video games, a study has found. The US-based research found that computer gaming by men in their early 20s explained a quarter of the decline in their propensity to have casual sex.
The size of the decline was on a par with the current young generation’s growing distaste for drinking as an explanation as to why casual sex is becoming less common among people in their 20s, according to the study of 2,000 young men and women aged 20 to 24.
The researchers from the State University of New York and Rutgers University used regressive analysis to try to understand why today’s youngsters are spurning casual sex.
According to studies the proportion who say they have not had a non-romantic sexual encounter in the past year has risen from 11.7 per cent to 15.2 per cent. For men aged 18 to 24, it rose from 18.9 per cent to 30.9 per cent.
For women, the biggest factor explaining the decline in their casual sex lives was drinking, which accounted for a quarter of the drop. According to the researchers, no other factor stood out or was statistically significant.
For the men, however, of the key aspects of their lives which appeared to be having an effect, the largest was drinking followed by gaming.
Ten per cent was accounted for by the fact that they were still living with their parents.
The researchers, however, found there was "no evidence that trends in young adults’ economic circumstances, internet use, or television watching explain the recent decline in casual sexual activity".
The reasons for the decline has been exercising academics.
Prof Simon Forrest, of the Institute for Health and Society at Newcastle University, said many young people tended to form long-term partnerships later in life, with people not settling down until their 30s.
"This is something that’s definitely changed a lot in the last 50 years," he said.
Young people also remaining dependent on their families, both financially and in terms of living at home, might be a factor.
"I think this clearly has an impact on the kinds of relationships young people form because that lack of independence can be quite important," he said.
He also pointed to what he calls the 'pornographisation' of society, in which the greater access to explicit pornography online might be affecting sexual relationships.
For example, young people might be concerned about the objectifaction of their bodies, about increasing negative attitudes towards women, and they might even be having fewer sexual encounters because they're spending more time with pornography.

I think these people need help.

I also strongly doubt it's sex they truly want because they can jack off to porn or pay a prostitute to be satisfied in life but they aren't. What they really crave is the human connection. They really just want girlfriend essentially, someone who is just as happy to see them as they are happy to see her. Perhaps even friends in general.

People like Elliot Roger are rare even among incel communities. If you look into the pasts of all of the individuals who commit violence like he did you'll very likely find that they were abused as children and that can really corrupt the mind. I recall looking into Alec Menassian and Anders Behring Brevik and both have had abusive mother figures and I would not be surprised if Roger is no different.

I have never been to any incel communities but I think that the existence of a community like that is big reason why there aren't many more killings. It helps them not feel as alone in the world as they are. I also doubt on the sexist misogynist... stuff because if anything I would imagine the most anti-woman thing they would talk about is how to live without them. Even if they vent about their lives I can't say I blame them. I'd be pissed too if I got dealt as bad of a hand in life as them and I think they have every right to be angry with their situation.

The last thing we want to do is antagonize them as that will only make the problem worse. I can't guarantee a wife for all of them but at the very least they need to be taught social skills so that they can get at least some human connection and I think the number of Rogers will decrease significantly.

My opinion on the "incel movement" is that it is comprised of men with many social issues, personal problems, and defeatist mentalities, which causes them to struggle obtaining relationships or give up on them entirely. Oftentimes, "incels" have poor social skills, lack sex appeal, no ambition or self-sufficiency, and an entitlement mentality where they often believe women should date them solely because they're possibly "nice." Instead of taking the time to improve their social skills to learn how to communicate with women better, focus on improving their appearance to look more handsome and stylish to women, or working a job that allows them to support themselves without living with their parents when they're nearly 30 or older, instead, they believe that finding a relationship is "impossible" instead of trying harder. Oftentimes, these "incels" then undergo a personal movement to boycott women so to speak and call it MGTOW, meaning "men going their own way." That's the best example of a defeatist mentality. A man with a defeatist mentality is a weak man and weak men aren't attractive.

It’s likely both. I’ve realized that one of my old friends is an incel. I had to cut him out of my life because he was so desperate to make me feel bad about “friend zoning” him back in 2006, that he tried to make me believe he’d killed himself. I’m convinced he’s mentally ill.

Misunderstood people who need help. The incels you cite are 0robably only 1% of all incels. Most incels dont even realize there is an incel community.

People have been overlooking certain motivations for doing harm to others for several millennia.

Now it's all based about sex. Too much, too little, etc. We see fights in bars because some girl was was talking to some guy and of course the guy was automatically at fault. This question is an example of how misused the term "incel" is today. It literally means involuntarily celibate, and your question here suggests the anger and resentment men feel toward society and women today is just because they can't get sex. There are certainly some men who fall into that category, but most of what you describe in your last paragraph have little or nothing to do with incels. I know plenty if guys who hold those views who are not incels, meaning they can and are having sex with women.

You seem to be misusing the term “incel”. Incel just means someone who has never had sex, even though they would like to.

Nothing about being an incel relates to being racist, antisemetic, or even sexist (although someone who self identifies as an incel will usually be somewhat misogynistic/sexist. Are the forums that most incels on filled with racist and sexist posts? Sure. But most forums which promise anonymity and target themselves towards men will have these posts (4chan, 9gag, etc). That’s just the way that the internet is.
