Yes 100% they make us sit through 7-8 hours of class and then when we get home we are expected to do 3-4 hours of homework afterwards. I think schools need to put more focus on the mental health of students.

Yes, the USA school system needs to be changed and improved it's shame that is why youth can't learn cause Teachers of today not like the old Teachers back in the day from 1960's - 1970's
As someone who isn't American, and therefore have no experience of the US education system, it really doesn't make me think of anything. There is no starting point.
Yes. Get rid of all the liberal indoctrination, teach classical thought, reasoning skills, civics, math, English, social studies, constitutional history, and science.
I haven't been in the school system for many years, so honestly I have no idea what it's like for kids today. I went to a public school when I was a kid and it was a good education I have no complaints.
The fact that total retards come out of school and have no complaints either is real, and it's a really bad thing. I don't mean to offend you, but the case is, the US education so very self centered, and young Americans are literally clueless about the outside world. And I don't blame them. It's a scheme by the government to make the people less opposing to the foreign policy. They less they know, the more they are convinced the US is always doing the right thing outside the borders.
@SoWhAt249 You seem convinced that it's the education system or the government's fault. How much of that responsibility should fall upon the students themselves or their parents? There are also total retards anywhere in the world. If someone doesn't apply any effort, why is that the government's fault?
Because they do nothing to improve the situation. Ofc, every country will have retards coming out of their education system, but the US is on another level completely. What you said is true also, the students and parents should make efforts to ensure proper education. I can provide first hand informstion of what the educationsystem was like and what it is now in my country. The education system was pretty bad when I went to primary school. You were graded for everything and if you underperformed the teacher did not put any adittional effort to get you on track. As a result, many kids got left behind. The school made you think tyat if you have low grades you are scum. And what do kids with low grades do? Start skipping classes, bully other kids, start getting bad habits. The system did not hurt me, I was a straight A (or 5 rather, because the grade system is 1 to 5 here) student, but the system made bith the good performing and bad performing students victims of sorts. By the time my younger brother was about to start going to school, the education system changed by a decree of the ministry. Grading was abolished. Working in groups was introduced, mixing students with various performance, essentially making them work together to compete with the other groups. Of course, the kids themselves know who knows more or less, but now there isn't a grade from which you can judge other students. It wasn't perfect, and probably still isn't and there's much to improve, BUT it changed one thing. Now nobody is a victim. All students enjoy classes, because being in school is now fun. Teachers can't focus on the several best performing students only now. They have to ensure all get the same amount of knowledge. This has improved the educational image drastically. In the last 10 years the improvements have been getting better exponentially.
As for why am I pointing fingers at the US government, it's an occuring thing amongst Europeans. Our leaders will say good things, praising America, and then American media will broadcast that and you will think that all Europeans love America and that we somehow want to be like you, but that is not the case at all. Europeans want nothing of all that. Everything we do functions way better, and we don't want to introduce backward reforms mirroring the US. This is why all of Europe points fingers at the US.
@SoWhAt249 They don't all point fingers at us, you just speak for yourself. In general, we have a lower cost of living, lower taxes, larger houses with more land at cheaper prices, and lower energy rates compared to western Europe. Life in the U. S depends on personal effort, if people would rather sling dope than work that's their problem. Information technology, trades, truck driving, healthcare, etc are all high paying jobs. My ex wife came here as an immigrant, went to school to become a registered nurse, and now makes 75 dollars an hour right now. So how is it that someone who is not even from here, does better than certain people who's families have been here for generations? Not everyone applies themselves, and our country isn't to blame. The government isn't responsible for people becoming heroin addicts or gang members. Success to a certain degree, is a choice.
Absolutely. It is set up for the industrial age and doesn't allow for freestyle teaching methods or open thinking along with situational problem solving. plus to accel in society people needs to know how to do taxes, and work the stock market.
I think we all know it does but we dont know how to implement change. I think we need to localize education and let the states determine the best way to implement education defederalize it.
Yes... it hasn't changed since the 1800s. Structurally it has shown to be less beneficial to it's students then productive. To be in a state full of workers and not thinkers is... amazing.
@AmericanWolf people believe Abbott's claims about Biden allowing illegals with covid into Texas-"coincidently as he's rolling back restrictions and mask mandates.
People believe whatever agrees with what they already believe. Minds can't be changed in many people no matter what you say or do. It's called cognitive dissonance.
No amount of education will alter a persons DNA or change their genetics. Some people are simply not capable of accepting new information.
@AmericanWolf because they are thought not to-largely by the media and politicians-republican politicians. i'm not a democrat-though, i may agree with them-but i want it known that my opinion has nothing to any any political afflictions-but half of my family are trump supporting republicans... i was at a gathering for a relative's birthday... all i heard was ignorance, hatred and, racism. Abbott knows his base-they've been trained their whole lives to hate people of color-trump thought them to hate dems and that it was better to be ignorant-with people like Carlson pushing it further. education is a very real issue. to prove my point and my position-this is a speech by trump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QPH0Q7ceR0
That has more to do the Constitution's guarantee that media should be truthful and not take sides. This is called the Fairness Doctrine. It was meant to keep media honest and block propaganda and lies. It was removed by Ronald Reagan in the 80s so his friend Rupert Murdoch could start his company without it being shut down for violations of the Constitution. That company Fox News.
Full disclosure Obama administration officials removed the propaganda restrictions from the Constitution.
@AmericanWolf an intelligent person would've noticed that was an attempt at brain washing. they won't do any critical thinking because they've been encouraged not to-another example is this:https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=Vw5ibPp9c4I another was when trump was confronted about a statement he made about-i believe was the release of a vaccine-he denied it. the point is this: at some point-you have took at something so completely absurd and think: ''hold up... this can't be right''-but, they refuse to do that and will refuse anything that conflicts with whatever garbage they're fed. i can't see any intelligent person believing Abbot-even if i didn't know any of the facts and only heard it mentioned-i'd still understand that's total nonsense.
Almost 50 woman killing by dudes in Turkey, our education system is awful, lot of teenager killing theirself. The saddest 15 years old people from Turkey, that’s what researchs says. Lot of things happening where i live. But USA... everyone dreams living there.
Trust me. I understand the hype with the US cause both my parents are immigrants and busted their ass to get there and to get citizenship.
The reason why I don’t like the US is pretty complex and I couldn’t explain it without going over GAG’s character limit but in short the US government is extremely disgusting and corrupt; they give their citizenships the illusion of freedom when in reality they aren’t free at all.

Your question is valid but you're not stating what it is needs to change. Giving this information would give us a start point
It makes you think for yourself if there's anything wrong. Find your own starting point.
As someone who isn't American, and therefore have no experience of the US education system, it really doesn't make me think of anything. There is no starting point.
well teachers need to go back to doing what's best for kids, not the unions
Yes. Get rid of all the liberal indoctrination, teach classical thought, reasoning skills, civics, math, English, social studies, constitutional history, and science.
Yes. Parents should be given a certain amount of money per child so they can send their kids to good schools.

Sure- mathematical and foreign language knowledge needs to increase greatly
I think we all know it does but we dont know how to implement change. I think we need to localize education and let the states determine the best way to implement education defederalize it.
Yeah they teach a lot of dumb meaningless crap or subjects,. I wish they had classes on improving communication or conversation skills
Yes, because we have been becoming more and more educated about our history. With that change it will help better shape the future.
Yes... it hasn't changed since the 1800s. Structurally it has shown to be less beneficial to it's students then productive. To be in a state full of workers and not thinkers is... amazing.
Of course. We’re so afraid of teachers not doing their jobs we’re confining students to standardized tests that average the lowest common denominator.
Yes, more funding. People are getting dumber.
Also, we need free school lunches.
God damn yes
Time changes, so does school need changes.
What does that have to do with education? News isn't based on education. It's based on profit and political motivations.
