I find it kind of funny how everyone mentions “used to have” or “was” in terms of how the United States was back then. The truth is it is the most fair nation on earth and most sided towards black people. Name another country with more black millionaires or a country with full black like NFL or NBA? You can’t.
It's the government and media that is stirring the people up into believing that the U. S. is majorly racist against "people of color". Like all countries and cultures, America had some issues when it came to racism and racial equality, but no other country on earth was able to achieve the type of equality and quality of living standards for being such a ethnicity diverse country in such a short amount of timeas the U. S. has. No country, society, or culture is perfect but as someone who has traveled and personally seen and worked in multi cultural environments and in different countries, I think that the U. S. has done the best job so far. Those in power want to divide and cause strife within America because they know once we are divided that we become weak as a nation and people.
Because our policeman and higher ups abuse their power on a daily basis and we are claimed to be a free country when something as little as race could get you killed in a scenario where if you weren’t that race, you probably wouldn’t have been killed

Hey facts don't matter to some people lmao and they don't get that Google is also biased. Sick, sad world full of lies that we live in today, and idiots who believe them.
Because the US has historical systems of oppression against certain groups of people on nothing but race alone. The US had this whole concept of 1 dropism where you could even 'look' white, but if anyone thought you had 1% of black lineage, you were denied voting and full citizen rights. This is linked to slavery.
Now this valutation of human worth,, isn't about academic merit, proven tradeskills, generational wealth, native language skills, or whether you actually are black toned or not - it's the idea that genetic blackness or the association with black lineage made you less of an equal. As more immigrants of color arrive, we see this narrow group of whiteness and 'other colored' arise to discriminate against Asians, who are very genetically distinguishable from perhaps their eastern European peers, but perhaps are coming no more or less 'well off.'
So take this backburner bias, and apply it to housing and voting and taxes. Most countries in Europe eventually adopted a merchant approach to race. Can they afford it? They we will sell to them and treat them as customers as is.
In the housing industry in the US, they literally lowered the value of a property if it were to be occupied by 'less desirable' groups of people. Of course, this is discrimination on race because you're not taking into consideration of the actual property value. They made an assessment and then effectively subtracted value BECAUSE of prexisting perceptions about race and racial groups.
So having this long history, another gun shot to a person of color isn't just a one and done, it's brings up the history of, how can a society continue refused to acknowledge the history of 1 droppism, or the history of housing devaluation, or the history of racially targeted policy, and the history of preference for 'whiteness.' Despite living in a society that thrives on its endorsement of the 'melting pot' and very diverse.

There is slavery today. Black folk have their own culturally developed word for a slave owner in the 21st century... pimp. Yeah, if slavery is so bad why do so many pimps exist? Because it makes money and sells rap music and wins Oscars for shit songs like "it's hard out here for a pimp" in 2004 I think. Slavery is an excuse, they don't care about the fact that it continues and their culture glorifies it.

I'm sure it seems that way, but what happened is back in the bad old days, those who took on far stronger and more serious racism mostly won- mostly. The average man or woman in the street isn't stupid enough to believe that, but they're also not brave enough to challenge the social consensus; they'll usually offer a token salute to signal their loyalty and then go on their way.
You can see how little care most Americans have for it if you look more closely. Consider The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It's a downright SCATHING indictment of racism, and a proclamation of universal humanity and the importance of questioning social narratives- but it makes frequent use of racial epithets to reinforce that point, so people call for it to be censored.
That is a supremely loaded question. Race is one of those things that some will obsess over, and others will find a nuisance to pragmatism they don't want to bother with, and every shade of interest in-between. As for WHY it is still so prevalently focused in culture:

They brought over thousands of Africans as slaves, and then when they finally gave them freedom, do you know what happened? Those African Americans were kicked off the farm and had nowhere to go, no one in the south would hire a black man, they couldn't find a place to live, they were looked down upon, and they were too poor to get out of the situtation they were forced into, meaning many of those ex-slaves went to work on the same plantation they just left, because how else do they find work? They got paid next to nothing because they had no other options, they still lived on the same property, they were basically still enslaved. I don't even know if they ever really got out of it, things have changed, but black people have always been oppressed, redlining, for example. There have always been institutional systems in place holding back black people, including the police with racist policies targetting blacks like stop and frisk. On the surface of it they have equal rights, but the two races do not have equal protection by the government, many people and companies get away with breaking the law by targetting blacks. Again, redlining is a long term, well documented issue that we as a society can fix, and choose not to.
It's kinda hard to find rich black people in countries where we are constantly starting civil conflicts and stealing from them. The CIA has started many civil conflicts, in Africa, Middle east, and south/central america.

I didn't watch the video. I can only say if people deny an application because it is too "White" that is wrong. Why on earth would I agree to such nonsense? I employ a number of "White" people now. Even though I try to keep things balanced when it comes to employment, as I have made sure to hire Latinos, "Blacks", "Whites", Asians, Arabs, etc. But why on earth would I sign onto a process to eliminate "White" folks for consideration from adequate representation in government? But I am just taking your word for what the video shows and that is unbiased and truthful in its depiction of the Mayor. You do know that many "Black" people in Chicago are really unhappy with her, right?

I grew up in Europe - the UK, France, Germany, Russia & a few others.
America's bizarre. Toxic. The hangup with race & skin tone is abnormal in Europe. Except for the UK prior to the last few years (migrations of "refugees" & the resultant crime increase, etc.) you never really heard or saw such behavior in Europe. It existed in places, won't deny it, but nowhere near as systematically or widespread as in America.
And in the US I've always wondered if it's some weird inferiority or what. I mean if you demean "colored" people as lesser by default the "white folk" are better. And the comical part is among the "white folk" in America the Anglos demean anyone who isn't Anglo such as the French, Italians, Russians, etc.
Speaking as someone from the uk, race has definitely been a major topic, especially after ww2 when immigrants came over in masses and uk became more diverse. Kinda goes for Europe too, although Europe is more to do with nationalism and ethnicity in terms of the different countries here. However, race is becoming more and more spoken about in european countries with high numbers of poc like germany or france in particular with their laws centred around islam

Well it hasn’t recently been an issue though has it. Black people have been in Europe I’m sure since slavery years but Europe only highlights the conflict between different ethnicities (unless you count jewish people as another race since they were persecuted in Europe for years before the nazis came along) or perhaps there just hasn’t been enough education on it. It’s not just immigrants Europe has a problem with in terms of race. For example, france has had history with muslims for YEARS and muslims have been immigrating from algeria, morocco etc. So yes race relations has been happening for many years, maybe you’re just ignorant of it

Hispanics are poc and ‘hispanic brown’ is literally another race when white people go from white to brown, they’re literally changing their skin colour and perhaps look like another race It’s rooted in history, how dark skin was and still is looked down upon (for example, in days of slavery, darker people were slaves in the fields whilst the lighter ones were seen as more domesticated) and I’m sure there have been many poc with dark skin who have been discriminated against or people have said comments and they feel bad or insecure about it. Now, it’s the opposite where it’s glorified or beautifed in a white person who is darker. Also, there’s the problem of brownface or blackfishing etc
Wait if having dark, Hispanic looking skin means that you will be treated as less than in our society.. then why in God's name would it be considered attractive, healthy-looking, sexy? Why would it be trendy for white people to tan if it meant they were going to be judged for their skin color? Wouldn't white folk aim to stay as pale as possible in order to use every bit of privilege their paleness affords them? You know, systemically?

More than there should be are, IMHO. Media plays a big part of the problem by the way they report unfortunates events happening to particular ethnic groups by their sensationalism and placement in the order of news stories (i. e., black guy get shot-front page news; white guy gets shot-second page of the local section). Sub-groups within some ethnic groups also play a part in the problem with their "Woe is me" or "Holier than Thou" attitudes. Also people are jumping the gun over, let's say shootings, without knowing all the facts. The one thing, IMHO, that people refuse to understand is we all are Human Beings. We all matter as a species. We all must remain calm until the facts are reveled. Racists, regardless of color spectrum, are some of the ones eroding this country from within. My apologizes for the rant.

Race Consciousness is very high for two reasons alone one is that the mass media continues to stir up the issue of race at every opportunity in the news. The other is that the leftist Democrats are doing exactly the same thing it is the purpose of leftist Democrats to separate our population into voting blocks so that they can win elections.
I'd hope most Americans are aware with how much we focus on race, it's how it's been for a long time, especially since it probably spreads more from news or the highest places of the American government too. Hopefully discussions change that in the future.
Your first point is entirely incorrect, but that's not your fault it's literally just your age and I mean that in a really kind way. When you have time, please check out the movies and sitcoms from the 70s 80s and 90s. 80s and 90s kids (so like Gen X and older millennials) did not grow up focused on race WHATSOEVER, and neither did our parents.

yes we are because our liberal political party conflates anything and everything to be about race. Everyone hates each other more now than when George Bush was president. People are paranoid of being accused of being racist but the truth is that even if you follow every single rule that they make they can and will still label you a racist when it suits them.
Because professional anti-racists make tons of money this way, and non-whites can blame their misfortunes on whites to make some profit themselves. It's pure communism in its new form.

The demographics of African americans follows TO THIS DAY the cotton plantations where slavery dominated. Slavery was fundamental to the American economy so much that it took a civil war with 600,000 dead Americans to free the last slaves only 150 years ago. Jim crow laws continued for another 100 years. Segregation based on slavery was still in existence in the 1960s! Slavery is the best way to understand america today. Of course they are obsessed with race because their history shaped by slavery!
The history of slavery is a world wide one, not a national one. Only 1.4% of people (including people of color) owned slaves in America when it was legal. Also, the first person to legally own a slave was a black person and it was a messy legal affair which led to it's legalization in the first place. Another interesting fact was that put of all the slaves brought over the Atlantic ocean only 4% actually ended up in what we know know as America/the U. S. A. so statistically speaking only a very small percentage of people would be descendants of slaves in America. And according to most historical reports and documents, "slaves" or legal slaves were actually treated better and more humanly than many minority groups throughout America's history up until the late 1800s and 1900s.
@90sVibe you don't seem to understand, although slavery was widespread throughout history, the USA's present condition is largely informed by it's roots in slavery. Just look at the demographics of descendants of slaves, it matches the historic distribution of cotton. That alone is enough to consider slavery a major player in making America what it is today (making the "south" different from the "north"
Also the legacy of slavery went way beyond 1865, into Jim Crow laws and segregation which impacted our grandparents, many of whom are still alive today. So the legacy is one explanation why race is such an important issue in the USA, and not say, Canada or Iceland, which do not have histories of slavery.
