I'd say its the same reason gay people get upset when a straight person says they are not going to be friends with them.
Realistically though, we have freedom of association and all of us get to choose who we spend time with, who we become friends with and everyone has reasons why they will or won't be friends with someone. It isn't up to the rest of us to judge why, just to respect why.
I'm fine not being friends with gays.

I'm sorry I'm confused. Why exactly don't you like to be friends with straight people? I'm straight but I completely support the LGBTQ way of life. I have a few queer friends and they're some of my best friends.

That's a loaded question. I'm straight but I have no problem being friends with LGBT people. Maybe we won't share all the same political beliefs or whatever, but I have plenty of straight friends and I still don't agree with them on everything.

I don't know what to tell you because no one has ever told me they won't be my friend because of my sexual orientation. I have friends who are gay and friends who are straight. I have friends who could be either. The only requirement is that they behave as a friend.
I seriously doubt that "they" are getting defensive. It is way more likely that you just reek of smugness and superiority. 99% of people are straight, and you simply discriminated them. This ain’t what this is about I chose to be friends with like minded people such as myself within the community that I’m in. There’s nothing a straight person can do that can help me within the LGTBQ community unless their an actual supporter. If you’re not supporting me than why in the foh do we need to be friends?

by the way being a minority in America fucking sucks. There are a lot of hating people. I went to a PWI and I had no friends cause I think people were scared of me cause I was black. If you live in one of those areas where there’s not a lot of LGBT people it would definitely be smart to limit yourself to LGBT friends because you can’t trust others

If you goto a more diverse area people will help you out! People in more diverse areas are more friendly and accepting. Some people helped me out solely because I was black and they understood the pain of being black in America.

As for my relationship to the gay community, I have to admit I am not a supporter. I had a gay friend back in college. But that was long ago.
