Question

Who you do something in front of matters more than what you actually did. People don't get arrested for punching someone in the face, they get arrested for punching someone in the face in front of other people.

I mean not necessarily? Domestic violence or murder is mostly private and yet the perpetrator can still get in trouble. And you can still get sued for violence or whatever even if no one was there to witness it.
Plus cameras and technology now. It’s more of a general ‘if you’re caught’ not just caught by people

Nope, you get in trouble for things that you do not keep to yourself. I have known plenty of people that had to brag about something illegal they did only to find law enforcement at their door a few days later. If they did not get drunk and open their mouths then no-one would have ever known.

I've had super close friends that have done dirt, know they ain't got to worry about me snitching, they know I know they done it but would never admit to that shit in a million years. Depends… if it’s a crime there are always cameras and you always leave forensic evidence behind. If you are speaking of social misbehavior, yeah, generally it’s fine unless someone sees you, peeing behind a tree, picking your nose, adjusting your crotch…

Not really, for example if you cheat on tests and never get caught and you keep doing it you're gonna end up heavily under qualifying in the end. And people will have expectations for you that you simply cannot meet.

A person's own conscience can cause them trouble enough when they've done something that doesn't align with what they believe to be right, even if no one else knows about it.
