Should I train a Weimaraner puppy to hunt and kill all the feral cats?

It’s estimated that over 70 million feral #cats live in America and they are an invasive species. That is way too many cats for the shelters to handle. Weimaraners have a high prey drive and usually kill cats. I might as well train a dog to kill them all.

They are not an invasive species. We invaded their natural habitat and built our homes on it. Whilst we did that, their natural food chain cycle was destroyed, meaning food scarcity for them.

So what you are experiencing as them being invasive is actually them adapting to their changed environment to keep surviving, as far as searching for food is concerned.

You're better to trap feral cats and take them to the shelter or release them to live on someone who has a farm, never allow a dog to kill them that is so wrong

Well then you would have a rodent problem. Many rodents are also invasive species, and feral cats do keep them in check.

You can train them to distinguish between animals and punish them when they chase the wrong one

You are asking a lot of the dog and I believe you would need to find a professional trainer similar to police dog training.
