The human spine is not a straight line. The education system from elementary to high school has caused untold suffering and ptsd and back problems for billions of people with their torture devices they called chairs and forced the children to sit in them. Should we sue the schools and governments that allowed and encouraged this to happen?

I have a myriad of back problems, none of which I can attribute to sitting in a chair for 13 years.
you're correct that our spines are curved, but our spines weren’t meant to stay seated for 8-9 hours a day, even in the most ergonomic chairs. When your back muscles consistently rest, they weaken and stiffen, causing poor posture and extra stress on the spinal column and disks. Straight backed chairs, ergonomic chairs, whatever would ultimately result in similar outcomes unless the kids sitting in them were willing to maintain their posture by sitting up straight, shoulders positioned slightly back.
If you’re gonna sue, and you most likely won’t, I’d think you’d need to argue more frequent breaks for movement and even exercise.
I’d be more interested to here who you would sue? Your specific school district? Specific school? State board of education? The Department of Education?
I mean i am a bit confused after reading this in one hand you are disagreeing with me and in the other you are agreeing with me lol. I mean they force children to sit in class 8-9 hours a day and to top it off in those monstrosity of a chair. Maybe you got lucky and didn't develop any problems from those chairs but i can assure you many other people did. And i we sue the whole chain of command so to answer your question yes!

Where I agree: Sure, sitting 8 hours a day is a problem. what’s your solution? Your lawyer is standing in court, supposed to argue what the school systems should have done. Is he suggesting that students should have stood all day? Should students have gotten frequent breaks? Should school systems invest 100s of thousands of dollars in ergonomic desk chairs?
Where I disagree: Desk chairs in school aren’t the main contributor to most people’s back pain…It’s our sedimentary lifestyle. Eight hours of sitting a day, sure, but also video games after work/school. Sitting watching tv. Slouching while standing doing dishes. Constantly looking down at our phones. It’s a ton of things that contribute, and you’d have to prove in court that your specific back problems are derived from wooden chairs in school.
Ok so you do agree on somethings good! And yes the lawyer would argue all those things! And why the hell wouldn't schools spend 100s of thousands of dollars on ergonomic desk chairs? We spend spend that money at our homes to take care of ourselves why wouldn't we spend that on our schools? Also if they going to spend $20 dollars on a desk chair believe it or not you can still make it comfortable! These wooden and steel desk were maliciously made with zero regard to comfort. Hell no would be able to learn anything in those things when they constantly shifting in discomfort so it defeats the whole purpose of the damn education system just so they can save some damn money!!
1. Any chair that costs $20 won’t be comfortable and will most likely only fit a toddler. Hell, you can even really get lunch for 2 at McDonald’s for $20 anymore.
2. So why shouldn’t schools spend that money on chairs, like we do at home? Schools are using textbooks that are 20-+ years old. Teachers are significantly underpaid, making about $40-45 grand a year working 60 hours a week, often needing second jobs. School buildings, especially in rural areas, are falling apart.
All of that begs the question…are you willing to pay more local/state taxes to provide the school funding for schools to invest in comfortable chairs? 5% more? 10% more?
1. You can find thousands of used office chairs for under $20 today so yes if they really put in the effort they can make a $20 chair comfortable if money is the issues but obviously its not!
2. Here is an idea how about changing our priorities in the supposedly #1 country of the world? Money is not the problem here its our priorities which currently does not prioritize our education or our health!
A tiny fraction of the military budget should easily cover it and then some possibly even allowing for free higher education. As a society and country if we wanted to we can do anything if we put our minds to it i mean we landed a man on the moon whatever happened to that determination?

Our school have chairs and tables totally separated and I don't get any problems because I stretched myself after each class. Now it is online so I'm saying from my 6 grade. I have seen the classes of this session also and the the arrangement is same. I don't find any problem also if someone's back is aching then they could just like lay on the chair instead of slouching or sitting with back straight (in the case of my type arrangement). The chair you showed seems uncomfortable to sit on whole day because you can't even lay on it as there are chances of falling.
*over here lay means like sitting with back touching to the chair for support not the sleeping position.
You will encounter most of the problems when you get older and its too late to do anything about it sadly. I argue they need to make all school chairs and desks comfortable so we can actually focus on learning.
Well then let's also sue them for dishing out spankings and other punishments for students who misbehaved too. I've heard of paddles, yardsticks across the butt, or rulers in the knuckles or palms for doing something. And it should be the administrators who allowed those things, not the school districts themselves. Don't give any of the bottom feeder lawyers any ideas or they will file class actions suits and take most of the money won, if any.
This design is exactly why I would (every chance I got) sit up on the top of my desk, facing backwards with my feet on the actual chair part. I could hold a binder, book or whatever to read.

You calling me old? lol... We are 3 years. apart... sigh... I am not complaining about back pain or any illness... Approaching 40... can be difficult on the mind and body for many, I have seen old/fat out of shape 40 yr. old looking like 60... and 40 yr. old looking like late 20s... so... unless we continue to work on them since we are children... all that will fade fast... You do know that kids get lots of movements in school, no? Those who sit at home on the computer for hours and not doing any physical actiivites are to reflect on what to do next 30-40 years... By the way... I grew up sleeping on hard wooden beds... I have no back issues. You don't know what kind of furniture I have at home silly... I don't think school desks/chairs are good or bad... I just take control of what I do with my life when if I am being limited by others. The food... ha... no respond on that... know what they feed kids? Know what the govt. feeding you from the supermarkets?
I was a gymnast and able to do slits till I hurt my ankle few years. back... am walking well again and very healthy mentally and physically... Other than that I have no health issues. Also having anger issues can also damage your mental health... Take care of yourself and hope you have love for yourself.
All that sounded like an excuse... Just admit it you wouldn't replace any of your furniture with those desks because no person in their right mind would think they are comfortable! I also slept on hard wooden beds sweetheart but we both know you are leaving out the mattress and cushions part so who are you trying to fool? No no cushions or mattresses… Sat on wooden bench my uncle built us. Beds hard wood. My beds now are hard. My dining chairs are hard. I eat well (real earthly foods) and take care of myself. I don’t blame others … I am sharing my own experience… If you feel better by blaming … like the rest of those who do not take responsibilities… it’s downhill for the self. If you can somehow prove it was the chair that caused the problem, and you asked to have it replaced and they refused, and if medical experts will testify that the chair caused the injuries, AND if you can get a lawyer to represent you in a lawsuit that includes all this stuff and much more - maybe.

Hey, parents have to pay for the kid's sports, and in lower grades, their school supplies too. So I see no reason the parents can't supply their child with some kind of cushion, even though they would be throwing them around the room like a pillow fight if the teacher stepped out of the room for a couple of minutes.
Also, the school budgets are stretched pretty thin in some school districts. They have old school books and old desks and chairs. A lot of schools need updating. What is more important? New textbooks and A/C in school rooms or new desks and chairs. Pick your poison.
So on top of all the books kids have to carry and their lunch you also want them to carry cushions too? Just because their school is too cheap ass to care for the health and safe of the children they teach?

I was talking grade school where you have the same teacher all year. Older kids don't have to carry a lot of books as they have lockers and most in high school have cars it seems these days. The schools are not cheap ass. They have to educate everyone at no charge, including immigrants that don't speak English. Plus the kids in high school treat their teachers like crap because they are little troublemakers and rebel against getting an education for free, and everything else for that matter.

I am 33 and have sat in lots of desk chairs when going to school. It hasn't affected me one bit. What exactly are they supposed to do to you? The only back problems I had was when I weighed 190 pounds. After I lost all that extra weight it all went away.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Most people with back problems work jobs that require a lot of physical work, like in the construction trades. I bet the chair you sit in daily is not ergomatic either. I'm more concerned about all the teachers quitting because of job burnout than chairs. They need to up salaries and lower class sizes. Teachers are not super beings from another planet.
While i agree with you about the teachers which you might be one yourself... But you also seem a bit naive regarding how a badly designed and unergonomic chair can have detrimental effect on a childs health.

You think school districts, who can't even retain teachers because they don't have the money to pay them more, or hire new teachers so class sizes are not so big and burn out teachers from the overload. Why don't you get a job as a teacher and see how you would do. See if you can convince the school board to buy new chairs for the students when they can't afford to keep sports programs going or fixing things that get broken.

I positioned myself to get comfortable, I brought extra jackets so my back wasn’t hurting when I sat back. We improvise and overcome. No need to sue. Eventually they will add new and more comfortable desks. Either way, we all survived it, back problems don’t usually occur from sitting in a desk. Sure, pain from sitting weird for hours, but unlikely to develop serious back issues as you age.

If anything, angry parents should be suing the schools for the damage being caused to the MINDS of their children, not to their backs. Kids can handle these type of chairs much better than many adults
