What we do know is that the government has been cavalier in trampling upon our freedoms and the truth is that measures such as lockdowns accomplished no benefits and - obviously - were devastating to the economy and to our individual lives.

Ah, good old Justin "the will of the people is the enemy of democracy" Trudeau. I find it kind of funny that it's overwhelmingly the poor, blue-collar working class types he's long claimed to be so concerned with that his decisions have hurt the most, and now that the man's proven himself so damn stupid that he'll take on TRUCKERS (in Canada, no less!), he'll be lucky to walk out of this with the support of anyone but his diehard party-liners.
As an added bonus, a huge portion of the Canadian trucking industry is composed of Sikhs. If you know anything about that faith and its associated culture, and their history, you know how this is going to end. A group that actually stands for something, instead of "we're whatever the USA isn't"? Yeah, this is when Canadians prove that they, too, are Americans. Power on!
Had to look it up. Protesting vaccine mandates as something new and authoritarian is interesting when you had a license mandate for your job that you didn't care about and probably had to get your kids vaxxed to go to school.
I don't know about Canadian conservatives, but American conservatives will preach about how that's an offense against freedom while set up 10k boundies on girls going to planned Parenthood. So I actually can empathize in principle, I know I can't empathize with American conservatives in similar issues of freedom.

It is an insult to truth because it ignores one basic fact: government isn't the only thing that can take away freedom. When people have to shelter in place or risk contracting a deadly disease (or a family member catching it) that is a deprivation of personal liberty and one they seek to violate.

Covid has less than a 0.5% fatality rate even if one doesn't get any treatment. It's a similar fatality rate to many flues. But politicians and media working for the conspirators who are behind the covid narrative have morons convinced that covid is a death sentence. LOL

If you did your homework, you'd know that a majority of truckers in Canada are not white, but rather are immigrants from various countries. This is a protest against *vaccine mandates* - there is NO racial component to the equation.

I don't really know to respond. I have never heard about this before.
Canada has imposed vaccine mandates on truckers - guys who spend 99.9% of their time isolated inside the cabs of their trucks - which prevents a lot of truckers from working, crossing borders, getting access to food and services, etc. And they're doing this at a time when there is a huge shortage of trucking, and when the demand for trucking has never been higher.
The truckers have parked their trucks on major streets in Ottawa, completely blocking traffic, and are blowing their horns, because they want these mandates rescinded. Towing companies refuse to get involved at all (because if the truckers boycott them, they'll go out of business), so the government can't tow them away. The government wanted to bring in the military, and the military said "no chance - we're not the police." Average Canadians mostly support them as well, because they understand that these people, who do vital jobs, are not nearly the COVID threat that, say, a politician is who has lots of private meetings and parties and vacations with no masks and no mandates.
This is all about Trudeau trying to exercise power, and nothing to do with COVID (again, it would be difficult to find a job with more isolation than a truck driver), and the truckers aren't having it. They've blocked the border and they've blocked the capital and they aren't going to move until the mandates are rescinded - and every day that goes by, Trudeau is shown to be more and more powerless and stupid.
