A drug addict mother whose infant died because of her deug addiction shouldn't go to prison but a drug addict man should be given a life sentence even if his addiction didn't kill anyone?

The truth is that no one asks to be born. We simply are and if we did none of us would be asked to born from a mother with drug issues. A women that uses drugs or drinks during her pregnancy does so knowing she is putting her child in danger, giving it serious life long medical issues and potentiality killing it. You can't get around any of it.

I think people hold onto the idea of crack addicted mother being helped because in attempt to avoid dealing with the above. But humanity isn't a sun shine and rainbows. We can be the worst creatures on the planet. Women using something like crack or meth during their pregnancy are pretty high on the worst of humanity list. If you don't see it that way just look up pictures and information on crack and meth babies.

Help the babies and punish the mothers.

Yes, mothers need to be held legally accountable for their actions that harm their children, and that includes drug abuse before getting pregnant too. Most of the kids in the schools I have worked in that have learning disabilities, or severe disabilities have mothers with a history of drug use.

Society tends to not hold women accountable for their actions nearly as much as it does for men.

People with addictions need help, not punishment.
This just sounds like yet another way of punishing women for not using their bodies the way other people think they should. Nobody wants to help her, they just want to punish her.
Being pregnant doesn’t give you more willpower than other addicts, yet this suggests she should have more anyway.

Excuse me?
That applies to men too. At least a male drug addict might get life imprisonment for using his body the way he wanted. Plus his using his own body didn't kill his infant.
Being pregnant makes it worse for her.

However, you are talking about pregnant women, which is what the quote you used was addressing.

Yes but you claimed punishing crack addict women is another way of not letting them use their bodies. This "body restriction" not limited to women. Moreover men get punished for that more than women.

People shouldn’t go to jail for being addicted. Men or women.

Prison probably isn't the best place for them to go initially, they would first be forced to deal with their addiction, then prison, then possibly something like a mental ward.

Unintentional manslaughter would be a good charge. That way it's a felony and they have to do serious time. While in prison, they should undergo rehabilitation.
