Would you be ok living close to a Prison assuming it was generally a nice area?

You have to if you live here. City's aren't big really neither are places, so were prisons go are often close to houses and in city's and near everything. It's not a thing like Alcatraz been off coast somewhere or just away from general population.
So our prison is almost bang on in the middle of the city well it's more before you enter the city by a roundabout but roads aren't big so it's nothing but a short walk. There is also a school near it.
So if someone was to break out of our prison they would realistically be able to get anywhere in our city very easily. And doubtfully they would stay near the location of the prison so it's actually probably safer to be near it.
As for it been there i've never really noticed it. Nor does anyone. And yes it holds really dangerous even infamous people and certainly one Americans would of even heard of. Yet no one here cares that's it's right there. Nor have we ever had a fear of someone escaping or bad things happening due to it.
My dad lives near it. I live on far end of my city so not really for myself. But like I said not hard to get here if one broke out.
And nice place around it? I wouldn't call it that, but it's not all that bad. Just mostly druggies but they stick to themselves. And my dad lives there with no problems ever. And one of my ex's did again no problems. Nor do I feel any when there.
Pretty much describes my immediate area. I have no problem with it. A good deal of the people our society deems “criminals” aren’t even that bad, fear of them is quite often irrational. I doubt their first stop if someone broke out would be my house to do harm to me, just lmfao at that level of paranoia.
I lived about a 15 minute walk from a women's prison and actually went onto the property by accident during their outside time.
It was not a nice area but not for this reason. More than anything, I felt sad because lots of these womens' children and families lived far away and might only be able to visit once a month or every few months. It was also in the news around the time I lived there because of some kind of violation accusations. Not sure where that went, but prison is a screwed up system and institutionalization syndrome is no joke.
There’s a low security “correctional facility”, which is sort of the last step before release, kinda-sorta close to us. There’s been lots of escapes through the years where everyone gets texts from law about keeping aware and locking doors. They always forget to text when its over. That’s never fun.

Yes, absolutely! Living near a prison is probably the safest place to live if there is a prison break, because they are not exactly gonna wanna hang around the neighborhood! they will get as FAR away as possible!
So the escaped convicts come to your house, break in, and assault/kill you for your car keys, or they end up taking you hostage because the authorities are closing in. 🤷♂️
I mean the chances of this are rare as prison breaks don’t happen all that often, but there is a reason most prisons have nothing around them but empty land, sometimes for miles.
@Agagagagaga I don’t think the question was meant literally, or seriously. I mean he added a stand-up comedian IN the question. It’s #StillAlive, his last question was about diarrhea on a date. I absolutely LOVE Doug, and while he does ask many #AMAZING questions, the “bulk” or “fillers” are about things like Lord of The Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, Video Games, Pokémon, or series’, like…Do you like this fast food restaurant, what about this one, or what about this one, how about this one. Right now he's on a “rate this mythological creature” series. So when it was asked, I HONESTLY did not believe it was a poll on my willingness to buy real estate next to a prison. I answered a jocular question, with a jocular answer. You should really lighten up just a tiny weenie bit sweetie. Sometimes the questions here on GaG are just not meant to be taken seriously.
@Still-alive I love you so much Doug, please NEVER change. You are like the indulgent delicious desert in this dinner of dread here on GaG. And you have helped me personally (in private) so many times, I cannot count the amount of times you have pulled me back from the brink! Please don’t ever stop being you 😘💋
All My Love,
Laura.
Aw thanks dear. Very sweet of you.
People live in houses built over burial grounds, in houses where mass murders and suicide have been commited, houses which are belived to be cursed and haunted ,, I personally live in a house where there were 10 suicides, none of my family members, so yeah I would not mind living near a prison
Assuming the worst that the prisoners break out they would want to get away from the prison so that they don't get caught rather than hang around the neighborhood
I live by the police academy. lol I also live by a lot of freeways, so they take many inmates - I don't know if it's for training - but they take them to clean the garbage on the side of the road, plant trees in the spring, and some landscaping stuff.
No thanks. Families of prisoners (and girlfriends and her pals) tend to move nearby. It's not exactly the view I'd want to have either.
so what? you think they would hang around?
Hang around what?
near a prison? im sure the last thing they would do is mess around near a prison with loads of guards that can swarm them in minutes or seconds
I don't think the prison gaurds are gaurding the homes in the area.
no but they are very close by.
*before (veggie? lol)
I did live there for few months 3-4 years ago. I wanted to move somewhere temporarily and that area actually was nice but I was nervous about moving there... But I did anyway.. It wasn't bad. Nothing ever happened. O. O
I think so. I don't see the problem if the crime rates are very low there (assuming that's the case if it's considered a nice area to live). It doesn't seem like it translates to any practical danger to my loved ones if that's the case.
Awesome Carlin clip by the way and I think I can see the logic that it might even be safer to live right next to a prison. :-D
I used to hang out at a friend's house who lived right across the street from a prison...
it was just a big ass wall... was nothing much really... lol
I guess it would for depend on the severity of the criminals in that prison. Is it a white collar prison full of white men who evaded their taxes... or it it one filled with murders, rapist and serial killers?
In all honesty I'd probably invite the newly released prisoners over for a home cooked meal, because you never know where they're going back to.
You’re probably better off living close to the prison because, even if there is a prison break, they’re so rare and even more rare to involve civilians, you’re probably more likely to run into criminal violence living away from prisons.
Once when I was 13 the cops knocked on our door to let us know there was a convict that escaped prison hiding out on our land. It was woodsy so he was hiding out somewhere in there.
No, I could never do that. I wouldn't feel safe and comfortable.
Noooo the cops at duty will find the bodies I hide under my floor and garden!
No matter where you live there's always going to be crime but yeah just gun laws for a reason. DUH
Would be better then my current situation of living by 3 schools
Eh, as long the rent is affordable in the place I'm at.
Anything that brings down the prices, especially in central London (there are 8 still running, but I doubt it really helps much).
I'd be okay with it as long as the crime rates in that area aren't bad.
My country is so small that there is a college and a shopping area less than 1km away from the prison.
No I would not, I don’t want to be murdered by an escapee
The convicts aren't going to bother me, even assuming they get out. They're not going to hang around the area.
I would imagine it’s like El Paso, the safest city in America. Because it’s right beside the most dangerous city in North America, Juarez.
No cause if they escape they could hide out in your home.
They don't put prisons in very nice areas do they?
just assume they did for the sake of the question
Yeah, no problem I would live near a prison
Lol. You mean 'navy seals brigade'?
No thanks.
why not?
so what? they're locked up and guarded 24/7 by security.
even if they managed to escape which would be extremely rare they wouldn't just hang around the prison lol
that would never happen lol. watch george carlins bit here.
Would be a safe place, escapies want far away fast
Yeah no problem.
Yes I do already
I would not
