In your country, is it common for men to open the door for women?

I'm living in Asia. I realized we don't really have gentlemen courtesy. Then one day, I went to France. My male relatives opened the door for me and my family, followed by saying "ladies first". Strangers in the shops opened the door for me too. It was new for me. So, I would like to know if it's a country thing or an individual thing. It'd be helpful if you state your country as well.

Yes, this is normal in the UK but things have become more equal in recent decades so now it is more accurate to say that it is normal for people to hold the door for other people as appropriate based on the timings of who is where, when etc

Everyone holds the door for everyone in my town. Man for woman, woman for man, kid, elderly, it’s a human thing. Only one or two men making themselves look bad. And everyone has come to make it a thing to be loud at them. Pretty funny.

i'm in america, and it's pretty common. but tbh i think that anyone and everyone (regardless of what either gender is) should open the door for others if they're close behind.

I’m the United States today a man can lose his job or children for what used to be termed common courtesy if he shows it to the wrong radical feminist. It’s a gamble that has little benefit but a lot of risk. Thanks feminism!

It's not so common here in the US anymore. It used to be but women were pissed off about it because they felt they were capable of opening the door themselves, so men have stopped doing it as much. I got way too many dirty looks from women for opening doors for them so I stopped.

Not as common as it used to be. Women don't seem to like it anymore. They see chivalry as patriarchal now. They'd rather you slam the door in their face.

It's considered courtesy here, I help even older ladies if there is an opportunity and I'm not interested to attract them.
