I mean, I’d need to know exactly what you define as “woke” to get too specific. But overall, I feel like it’s become kind of a vague right-wing buzzword. I feel like the term has kind of come and gone for the originators of it, hearing Tucker Carlson say it is like if my dad came into my bedroom with his hat backwards like “hey, I hear that Snoopy Dog guy is real DOPE!”…. just cringey as fuck lmfao, and late to catch onto now-stale slang. But now the whole thing is more just a shift in societal culture, just having that awareness that you need to take a bajillion other things we don’t even need to detail here into consideration in addition to your own individual perspective while analyzing and navigating life. The people whom considering it and discussing it makes uncomfortable are usually the ones who demonize it and say it as a negative word with negative connotations.

Now, before anyone freaks out, I get that some people are extra about shit. They aren’t the norm, but they get presented as such, by sources who want to see the whole thing go away. But they’re out there, and I’m a straight white guy, I’m RIGHT in the crosshairs of all of this stuff, so I don’t want to get kicked in the nuts for saying the wrong thing either lmao. But this is supposed to be a learning process, and I think you’ll find it’s not as hostile as you’re fearing it to be. Honestly, I bet if some of the hardest right wing anti-woke people who swear up an down it’s an attack on them personally and all this, if they sat down and kicked it with someone whose of one of these minority demographics you think “wokeness” caters to, just really listened to one another and heard each other out, I bet you’d find a whole lot of times out of 100 they’d end up hugging and shit with tears in their eyes.

I don’t know, I think I had more to say but I’m nodding off, hahaha. Anyway, winding down…I watch a lot of FoxNews. I have my elderly father in my care, that’s what he watches, and it’s on (SUPER loud😂😂😂) most of the time that I’m home. And basically, when I hear them talking about “wokeness” (and actually many other things), I’m just thinking “yeah, except…. it’s not what you’re saying it is. You’re completely mis-characterizing it.” So if you’re walking around thinking it’s something that it’s not, something that’s out to get you if you’re of any majority demographic in America (white, heterosexual, Christian, male…any one or more of those), of course it would have you worried. But unless you’re really being an asshole (barring maybe a few instances somewhere out there of anecdotal evidence where there was a bad overreaction), I don’t think you should find yourself in any real trouble. There’s no “war” on you, despite what you might be led to believe, lmao.

I don't support it at all. It's gone way, way too far and I am afraid for what the future may hold. Society has gone entirely too far left and it's time for the pendulum to swing back towards the center. Too far right and too far left are just opposite sides of the same nutty coin.

For one thing, it isn't just about not tolerating "hate" anymore. It's also about not tolerating anything that doesn't fit their agenda and that they don't like.

They also stand for things that can be detrimental to people all for the sake of an astronomically small percentage of the population (including the indoctrination of children). The "body positivity" movement has become very toxic as well, from promoting obesity to even shaming "diet culture" a. k. a. those who want to lose weight.

I'm all for not being intentionally cruel to people who are truly minding their own business and living a different lifestyle that doesn't harm anyone else, but we can't ignore reality and change definitions, facts, disregard history, etc. just because they're unpleasant.

There's a difference between the mainstream concept of "wokeness" and what I would traditionally consider "wokeness" to be as a Black person (the culture from which the concept originates).

To be woke is supposed to be a good thing. It is the product of scholarly knowledge and the decolonization of the self. To me, it is something you work to attain rather than something you truly reach.

Mainstream wokeness is a co-opting of an AAVE phrase. A move toward decolonizing the self IS objectively good. The showmanship and self profession of being woke however isn't.
Plenty of "hoteps" (people who are anti establishment, but maintain homophobia, and/or colorism, and/or patriarchy) think they're woke. They gatekeep and refuse to collaborate meaningfully with other ethnic groups and ideologies. Plenty of people with incomplete ideas of wokeness have a platform and make their voices heard in spaces where they shouldn't. That stuff can be harmful. It makes alienates lots of people and makes the positive messages unappealing because the individuals associated with them are likewise unappealing.

The problem with things escalating so much is that when you make too many radical changes at once (like within the same generation) then you don't really know what the outcomes will be in the long run.

- Censoring 'ugly' opinions for example; you might be on the side that decides what to censor today but once you set the norm that it's okay to censor and ban, the table might be reversed at some later point.
Many doors that have been closed for a long time have been opened recently. Who knows what might come through.

- Identity politics is also something that is probably more harnful than not. Because putting people in categories like that and boiling individuals down to color, background, culture, sex or gender is like the same as racism in the first place. It doesn't help to diminish people like that. We're all people despite it (which is suppose to be the point). Treat people equally, not with exception.

- Not to mention all these quotas being used. I get that trying to get a 50/50 gender statistic might seem something to strive for but at what cost? Competence must come first.
Im not saying alternative people can't competent, I am saying statistically, if it's hard to find the right competence in the general population is will be immensly more hard to find it in a narrower demographic. Sometimes it won't be realistic to include one of each type of person without risking a low quality outcome.

Hey, I am not even American. But eventhough the US might not be the best country in the world anymore the west still need you guys to be a voice for freedom and to act as a counterbalance to oppression. I know mistakes where made back in the dats as well but nothing is perfect.
Right now you're heading down a very shaky path and I know I am not the only one that's worried about extremism taking over. I just hope enough people stand up and vote for reason, with reason.

It's bullshit. Attempts to cynically exercise power by those who historically haven't had it. It's pile-on mob assault. It comes mostly from a very ugly side of the Left wing but even traditionally left wing opinion holders get torn apart by the mob of they speak out against it.

Like many evil things it contains the seeds of its own destruction within itself. Because the mob cares nothing about its victims, it will eventually turn on itself, as mob members decry each other for not being "woke" enough.

It's kind of funny to see media and business kow-tow to the mob, thinking they can appease them into silence or supply what they claim to want, in an effort to chase their buying power. There are good things and bad things, just like in every generation.

On the positive side, we have people becoming more aware of school and education systems being outdated, wage gaps and living expenses are starting to becoming a larger concern, technological advancements are being made to improve peoples standard of life and the environment, etc.

But on the downside, there's excessive inclusivity and body positivity, lgbt promotion, cancel culture and radical feminism going on. It's a huge concern for me if I were to eventually raise kids of my own.

They're understanding that people are people, humans have varied experiences, and compassion is valuable. And they're willing to fight for it - well harder than my generation was.

Respecting other people isn't hard. It's good to see the kids of today can not only do that, but will fight for it.

I don't see a "woke" world. I just see one where people are free to be themselves as long as they do no intentional harm to others - and I have a really hard time finding what's wrong with that.
