I'm a young slim white guy and living in the United states as one is tough if you want a girlfriend. In my opinion, I feel that western society along with Latin American, African, and Middle Eastern societies have a toxic male beauty expectations to attract a woman, examples such as having to be big and muscular and aggressive and being older and taller than the woman and have a very aggressive personality that is borderline psychopathic if not that to begin with.

I've never been to Asia but seeing their culture, in China, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea I see the women more or less going after guys who look like twinks (look at male jpop or kpop groups). I find it very hard to believe that the Western male beauty culture is universal across all cultures across every woman, not every woman wants a strong violent aggressive meat head who gets into fights and stuff.

I don’t think so. Our sexual preferences are hard-wired.

The people who are most likely to believe in nurture over nature are liberals. They like to believe that they can socially engineer the type of culture that they’d like to see, but this is wishful thinking - you can’t erase tens of thousands of years of evolutionary history.

The proof of this is that it’s in the West where people have the most feminist views, and where we see the most women encouraging men to abandon traditional masculinity and praising those who do, yet a guy like yourself will still struggle to get a girlfriend. That’s because what women actually want is in conflict with their feminist beliefs.

Some women might like K-pop guys, or guys like Harry Styles who cross dress, but those are rich, famous musicians. If those were normal guys they’d have a hard time getting a woman just like you do.

I also don’t think that it has entirely to do with appearance. There are skinny guys who have no problem here, and those are the ones you’re looking at.

I think it’s more about behaviour, in particular masculine behaviour. The majority of women prefer men who act like men, which doesn’t mean being jacked and getting into fights, that’s a bit of an exaggeration.

It's wildly different here. I'm a slim guy and small in stature and mass by Western standards but a lot of Japanese women think I have too much muscle in spite of being so far from a bodybuilder. I'm half-white and mesomorph so I have a broader build than average by Japanese standards but still narrower than most people from the West.

A popular aesthetic here in Japan is like a skinny and reserved guy or a flamboyant gender-bending type like some deviation of 80s glam rock with poofy hair and rock star-like clothing... almost like a living anime character. A somewhat androgynous aesthetic is popular among the youth like a "pretty boy" or boy band type.

Also among many of the Japanese women I dated and befriended, popular Western celebrities tend to be more like Justin Bieber or Bruno Mars than, say, Vin Diesel or Jason Momoa.

Yet that sort of masculine image has been falling in popularity in favor of something more androgynous with newer generations.

Not really. Some countries have male traits Americans might consider “effeminate”. But the media, and fashion is pretty standard.
