For those that choose not to read the articles:
Cliff Notes: Humans outlet methane gas, methane gas is damaging environment and #2 cause of climate change. We could capture these gasses and burn it for fuel.

Wholly crap! It looks like you can... if you want to. How badly do you want to save the planet and reduce fuel costs?

You just need to save the gas from natural outgasing.. umm farts... or create a bioreactor and collect the gas. Try not to blow up your neighbors because it is flammable! I'm sure you can do the math, but your farting just might save Europe.. and that's not a pile of dung, but real science!

Not to mention, you are causing global warming pressures... not in the least... by farting, from your human "bio reactor".. and all the other activities you do. It's time to take action, capture those gases... and put them to good use to fuel our economy.

I'm just not there yet when it comes to extracting fuel from our farts. :-D

I'm probably biased being from Japan but I think it would be so helpful to start designing the infrastructure more around people who don't own cars with great public transportation, local grocery stores within walking distance in every neighborhood, etc.

Besides cutting down on fuel consumption, there are a lot of benefits to that including health. I think one of the keys to Japanese typically being fairly lean and active and healthy is that even in the most rural parts of Japan, there are typically one or more neighborhood grocery stores within walking distance. So that tends to cause Japanese to shop for fresh groceries on a daily basis favoring more whole and fresh foods instead of preserved and frozen foods. I think once people have to drive to buy groceries, there's a stronger temptation to buy an entire week's worth of groceries and favor more preserved and processed foods.

It also helps cut down on DUIs. If people want to go out drinking in a night, there's no need for a designated driver. They can just use the train or bus or take a taxi to and back so easily and cheaply.

Also encourages walking and cycling daily. Japanese tend to average around 1-2 hours of walking and cycling a day to commute to/from work and run their daily errands. There's no need typically for Japanese to try to force themselves to walk 10k steps a day in a monotonous and routine way since they'll get that much and then some just to get around.

So I really think it'd help to design things in a way such that cars are an optional luxury, not a practical requirement just to get around and work as in many parts of the US.

I would probably say no. Methane is 25 times worse than carbon dioxide as far as greenhouse gases go. While it's generally a fairly clean burning fossil fuel. It's very bad unturned. If it became in greater demand do to use in cars then that'd increase the potential for leakage.
