But it really really kicked into high gear after 911 and has been accelerating ever since. And the Supreme Court has done precious little to protect the Bill of Rights, which is the law of the land. It's the Supreme Count's JOB to decide what laws are unconstitutional. But the court has become political and some justices are guided by ideology rather than the law.

Its not the same. Nobody is forcing california to do things the california way. The argument for federal abortion is to make Missouri and south carolina and florida do things they dont want to do. This is the same with marriage. It seems its not good enough for left areas to do things the left way, they also need to force unwilling states to also do things their way. Right leaning people on both issues never put forth rulings to force left states to do things the rights way. So they really aren't equivalent at all.

For 200 years, there was no federal law or court ruling concerning abortion; it was left up to each individual state. Now, 50 years later, it looks like that situation is going to return when SCOTUS overturns Roe v Wade... let each state decide.
