Because the USA knows it's a fading power and China's star is rising.

Where the American empire has nearly bankrupted itself building a military base on nearly every country. China has instead played the USA against itself by only having strategic bases and hypersonic weaponry to respond to threats.

The world is fairly unhappy with anyone pushing in to the pacific and trying to put in place draconian controls over areas of freedom of international movement.

if this was summer 2020 - 2021 I would say it would be China trying to push ahead.

However, since Russian invasion of Ukraine, pretty much all countries are looking at where they align, what protection they have etc.

For NATO and AUKUS, programmes that would not have been signed off for defence are now getting signed and stamped.

Both China and Russia have similar systems and these have been tested during Russias invasion of Ukraine.

Globally there will be push back against China post Ukraine finishing, although I have a feeling China has had a bit of a wake up call with sanctions.

if every western company pulled manufacturing from China (a lot are currently planning this as a just in case), then the Chinese economy would nose dive dramatically.

Because of Russia, the ‘West’ is moving towards next gen systems, which when you consider a Carl Gustav has taken out a T-90 proves how poorly Russian (and highly likely Chinese systems are).

The Chinese are still upset about HMS Volage and HMS Hyacinth a sixth rate and a sloop pretty much defeating their then ‘navy’. They have not forgotten this and are nervous about this type of thing happening again.

It’s all about freedom of movement within the sea and international waters.

First off: it's Ukraine. There's no "the". It's a COUNTRY, not a region.

More to the point, it's because Xi Jinping knows that China's time in the sun as a near-superpower is waning, and is desperately trying to grab enough power and influence to hold onto legitimacy for himself and his government when it all hits the fan. Directly grabbing for Taiwan would mean world war 3, and he's neither stupid nor crazy enough to try that, but an indirect push by way of OTHER territories just might work.

What he might NOT realize is that it means a low-key restarting of the Cold War, with China as the bad guys this time. He's been pushing in that direction for some time now, though, so he might be aware.

China has been trying to gain regional control of the south China Sea for some time by bullying its neighbors and with displays of military power.
Ukraine shows that we have nothing to fear militarily from China as their military equipment is mostly based on Russian designs or they use Russian military equipment and we saw the carnage the Ukrainians have brought on Russian military units armed only with hand held anti-tank and anti-air weapons supplied to them by NATO forces now we know if China were to invade Taiwan it would be a blood bath for China as the Taiwanese aren't just using American made hand held anti-tank and anti-aircraft missles but the latest US armor and fighter aircraft.

It's seems that 'Casualties of the Day' has a couple of screws loose. The invasion of the Ukraine was precisely because they wanted to join the EU and NATO. He is calling for the US and Australia to invade another nation, but at the same time believes the military action by Russia was wrong. Well, you can't have it both ways. Either you believe that larger nations invading smaller ones is wrong, or you don't. He's a hypocrite, that much is obvious.

USA NOT CAPABLE as You reside in a Nation that is at enmity with God and under judgment as was Rome (thesis).
