Why do people hope you grow taller when you still can, but when you can't anymore, they act like it doesn't matter?

I've seen so many threads by teenagers on here, asking if they still have hope to grow despite being short, and people are very optimistic about them being able to grow, implying every last day matters. But as soon as they can't grow anymore, nobody is blunt anymore, suddenly, it's not your height that matters, it's your "personality". As if personality could make a 5'4 guy as equally attractive as a 6'4 guy.

There are many things we obsess about while we are young that we later grow up and realize never actually mattered. This is just one of them. Perhaps its just the desire to simplify the world that results in teenagers jumping to such conclusions. Rather than accepting the complexity of life they believe that their problems could be solved through a simple solution such as if only there were a bit taller.

Either way, its a well known saying "the folly of youth" which sort of goes along these lines.

Age changes your perception. As you grow older you accept it and move on in life.

Being 5'4 is not the equivalent of being ugly, of course not. But it is the equivalent of being counter-sexual. Being handsome doesn't weigh as much sexually as being tall.
